Holiday after Holiday

Good Morning friends from rainy San Francisco,

Mom has come to the conclusion that the next month is all about holidays, we just finished Thanksgiving and Hanukkah will be starting this weekend.

What is Hanukkah – it is the festival of lights when a miracle happened and the oil that the Maccabees found to last for one night lasted eight nights so we celebrate this by lighting a candle every night and eat lots of oily foods. Very good for the diet and cholesterol LOL.

What are these foods – Latkes which are like fried hash browns and are yumm, Donuts or what we call them Sufganiyot – in Israel they make them with the jelly in the middle and are delicious. I remember when living in Tel Aviv there was a bakery that made the best I have ever eaten and you had to order in advance to get them as if you went randomly there was a line around the corner waiting. Hmm those were the days.
Chocolate Coins which we give to the kids and are called Hanukkah Geld.
We also play a game with a dreidel – it is a four sided top with Hebrew Letters on and you win when it falls on one of the letters.

Another tradition for Hanukkah is we exchange gifts and Layla was lucky to get a wonderful gift from Purebites of different treats. They are her favorite as they are freeze dried treats made with only 1 – 3 ingredients and I call them Layla’s crack LOL, the flavors she got are chicken breasts lamb liver and beef liver. PLUS I think for her the cherry on the cake was their Chicken & Sweet Potato Jerky, she is now set for the holidays with healthy treats made in the USA and I am so grateful for Purebites sending them to us as their treats is one of the few companies I really trust.

For our cat friends we want to share so you are aware that they make awesome cat treats also. To read more about them you can go to their website :

Purebites

Mom says I cannot eat most of the Hanukkah foods but she will be making me my own doggy latkes and we are sharing the recipe here plus sharing with you the recipe for the Hooman ones for those that want to try.

Doggy Latkes
Ingredients and Method
One sweet potato grated
One egg
Flour to bind it all together
Mix all in a bowl, spoon on to a baking sheet which is covered with parchment paper, bake on 350 Deg till brown on top, flip over and carry on baking till ready (golden brown) Cool and serve it to them with sour cream or cottage cheese.
This recipe makes about 5 or 6 depending on the size of the sweet potato.

Human Latkes recipe

Ingredients and Method
5 Russet Potatoes peeled (you can do unpeeled also)
2 Eggs
Breadcrumbs or Matza meal to bind it all together
NOW to make life easier and tastier instead of crying while grating onions I use a packet of Lipton Onion Soup mix.
Squeeze all the water out of the potatoes, add the rest of the ingredients and mix together.
Heat up oil in a frying pan, I use Canola oil, drop a table spoon of the mixture into the hot oil, flattening them a bit, fry till golden brown on each side, drain on a paper towel. Serve hot with either sour cream or apple sauce. Bon Appetit.

Please make sure you keep your pets safe during Hanukkah.

Now I am going to hibernate as it is cold and raining, to all those that celebrate Hanukkah – Hanukkah Sameach, have a wonderful holiday and do not over eat.

With a woof and love from
Layla

Happy Thanksgiving All

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !!!

We woke up this morning to rain which Mom is really happy about although I am not happy as that means my paws will get wet. Mom was explaining to me that the rain will clear the air so we can breathe fresh air again plus she can finally open the windows and air out the house. I do not care, I hate the rain.

So Mom told me to compensate for the rain she is going to go to the butcher today and get me my favorite bones, beef neck bone which I love to chew on, I am still not happy and yes the compensation is yummy but it means me still being stuck indoors.

As it is Thanksgiving Mom cooked me for this weeks meals, turkey and made me my favorite turkey treats, she is really trying to keep me happy and I am very grateful for that.

My turkey meal is made up of boiled turkey breast, pumpkin, broccoli and other veggies and then Mom adds supplements to each meal. The food is so good and there is nothing like home cooking.

What are the supplements :

Elder Dog – for Mobility and Immunity Optimal Health
Skin & Allergy – Supports Skin Health and Sensitive Skin
Multi Vitamin – For a good balanced diet

They are all made by a company called Licks Pill Free, so that means no pills but are gels which can be disguised in the dogs food and makes life so much easier. It is an American company of course and 100% Natural Holistic Remedies. What I really love about them is they are vet formulated.

To read more about them you can visit their site :

LicksPillFree

And best of all they have for cats too.

I have seen a big difference with Layla since feeding her them especially when it comes to her allergies so am really excited over trying them.

My Turkey Treats are made of : Ground Turkey, Broccoli, Pumpkin (I use canned pumpkin as it is easier to mix in), eggs and whatever other veggies I have on hand. I mix it all together, lay it flat on a baking sheet with parchment paper and bake on 350 Deg till ready. When cool, I cut up into squares, and put in zip lock bags – freezing some of the portions so that I have for the week.

So as you can see Mom has been busy in the kitchen while I have become the official taster, and what I love, HA, is watching Mom accidentally on purpose drop a bit here and there on the floor for me to eat. NOPE am not spoiled HA.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving ?

We hope you have a wonderful time with your family, and once again please keep your pets safe from all the Thanksgiving hazards.

A letter to everyone

Good Morning friends,

We hope you are all safe and getting ready for Thanksgiving.

Our past weekend we stayed indoors as the air quality in San Francisco has been really poor due to the fires in Northern California. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the victims, both two and four legged.

Before we start our thanks we would both like to thank all the first responders, non profit organizations and rescue organizations for the amazing work they have done this past year all over the world and now especially in California. Without all of your kindness, compassion and love the world would be a sad place as many of you show us all the time that there are good people in the world.

Layla has decided to thank those that have helped keep her happy and healthy this past year with this letter.

Dear Mom and friends,

As I get older, and you can call me a senior if you want but Mom remember you are one too I would love to thank all those that have helped Mom keep me healthy and happy, in so many ways.

01. PAWS – The mission of PAWS is to preserve, support and nurture the human-animal bond for those most vulnerable in our community. You have been amazing to us in so many ways and no words can express our gratitude for all you have done, not only for me but for so many other pets.

02. Pet Food Express – An amazing Pet Food Store with branches all over California. Your giving back to the community is amazing, and what many do not know is that with fires raging at the moment they are giving out free food and supplies to all fire victims including dog washes if they need them. Thank you and that is the reason I love shopping at your stores.

03. Shalom Bayit – who have helped Mom through thick and thin since she ran with my sister, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And now I must woof a special thanks also to :

01. Mom – you are the greatest. You put up with all my quirks. your patience and love is amazing even when I am naughty but most of all thank you for being a good Jewish Mom and cooking my dinners and baking my treats. I am very lucky to have been rescued by you and would not give you up for anything.

02. Tropiclean – Mom calls me a Tropiclean baby as she uses all their grooming products on me only.

Shampoos – the shampoos are fantastic and Mom uses on me the Papaya and Coconut all in one (shampoo and conditioner) so I always smell good after my bath.

Papaya Spray Mist – which keeps me refreshed and smelling good in between baths especially when I have rolled in something icky and smelly in the park.

Oxymed Products – When I have the itches then Mom turns to them to help sooth my skin and relieve me of the itches.

Dental Products – my teeth are pearly white as Mom puts in my water the water additive minty flavor so I have a minty breath plus she puts in my mouth in the morning and evening their gel to keep my teeth sparkling. We love these products as they are easy to administer and the results are awesome.

Ear Cleaning – I hate having my ears cleaned but let Mom do it and that way I get no infections as my ears are clean all the time.

Tearless Facial cleaner – Mom does wash my face at the end of each day so I am a pretty clean pampered pooch.

And the best part of Tropiclean is their dental chews which keep me busy when Mom is working and I know they help keep my teeth clean also.

If you want to see what amazing products they have this is their link.

Tropiclean

Tropiclean gave me some of their products for this thank you review.

03. I want to thank everyone else that have shared their products with us for reviews this year and made our lives easier in so many ways.

04. I want to thank all my aunts and uncles in the dog park for being ATM’s when it comes to treats, that is the highlight of my day.

And most important and before I go back to my morning sleep I would love to thank all my fur friends everywhere for following me on my blog with comments and discussions, you all are the greatest and make me smile every time.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, do not gobble up too much turkey and have a wonderful family day,

With a woof and love
Layla

Wednesday Woofles

Good Morning,

It is a hot sunny day today so Mom told me we going to spend part of the day in the park to take advantage of it as soon winter will be here with the rains.
Plus Mom is like a zombie at the moment from the day light savings and is a bit grumpy so the park sounds tempting BOL.

We had a very busy weekend this past weekend, Saturday Mom volunteered and I slept and Sunday we went on an adventure.

Every year Pawtrero BathHouse & Feed Co. have an amazing event closing off Brannan Street for most of the day. It is a fun event with vendors, dogs in costumes and of course different rescue organizations plus Animal Control.

They have two stores in San Francisco and their mission is to educate us about the nutrition of food for our pets. So the vendors there had really good foods and treats for us to learn about. I came across one or two that I had not heard about so it was awesome to see what is new on the market. Plus of course Layla had the time of her life tasting treats and freeze dried foods

Pawtrero BathHouse

They had a garden with BBQ’s going for us tired hungry humans which is organized and run by the Delancey Street Project Organization which helps ex convicts start their lives over – a brilliant project and one I fully support.

So while wandering around I came across a vendor that has one of the cleverest products for those of us that like to be outdoors with our dogs and they were kind enough to give us one.

It is called Poochables To Go – and what it is is a pet food and water travel system all in one. How it works if you have a food bowl attached to the bottom of the water bottle but the water bottle sits in a long bowl also. Easy to carry and easy to use. See the photo below. I have used it in the park with Layla on Monday and found that it was very convenient and would highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for something simple when outdoors or hiking.

If you are interested in looking more into it this is their website :

ThePoochCompany

This coming weekend Mom has told me we doing no adventures but going to be sleeping, eating and park time as she needs to relax BOL as she feels she is getting old.

So that is what is happening in the Layla Neighborhood, it is all good, happy and full of laughter and fun.

Have a great week all,
With woof and love from Layla

November has arrived

Woof November has arrived !

We cannot believe that the year is nearly over and 2019 is around the corner. It seems to be whizzing by.

I decided to put a hat on Layla for Halloween LOL – she actually did not mind it.

With all the tragedies all over the world this past week Layla and I decided to lie low and just spend as much time in the sunshine in the park and off all electronics. We both decided it was the healthiest way to be.

Last week Layla had a really bad attack of allergies plus she was just drinking more than normal plus wanting to pee every two hours so on Friday I took her to the vet for a check up. The vet was great as always, checked her thoroughly and explained to me that with allergies dogs sometimes drink more than normal but I should monitor her. We discussed what to do with her allergies and as I hate medications especially Apoquel as I feel once the dose is over the scratching begins again so for me that is not a solution. So after a lot of discussions I decided not happily but I also aware something needs to be done he gave her the Cytopoint shot. All I can say is within 24 hours she had stopped scratching totally, slept through the night phew as I needed sleep also and as it lasts for about 4 – 6 weeks by the time it would wears off winter should be here.

I had not heard of it in the past but after reading about it at home I am happy we did it. Layla, when she starts scratching, she starts hopping badly with her back leg in the air and I worry about her back, especially as she is 11 years old and I don’t want her to pull any muscles so that is another reason I went for it.

Another thing that made me really happy was this vet (I go to a clinic where there are 4 and I know them all) believes in CBD oil for pets and we had an amazing chat about it.

NOW the good news HA – Remember when I did the Embark DNA test on her – the results came in and I have not stopped laughing as I am trying to find the breeds in her. I love this company and am so happy I did the DNA test as I also found out she has no genetic diseases which is a big weight off my shoulders.

Drumroll …………Layla whom I used to call my HaShiPoo is really a mix of :

73 % Small Poodle
12.3 % Pekingese
8.4 % Cocker Spaniel
6.3 % Lhaso Apso

What can I say to this : She is a Rescued Concoction full of love, happiness and personality. She is my PooPeCockLha ROFL.

If you want to do yours you can get it at :

EmbarkVet

So that is what is happening in the Layla Neighborhood, never a dull moment but always full of wagging tails and smiles.

We hope you had a fun Halloween and did not OD on treats and candy.

Am off now for my afternoon siesta as it is hard work being a dog.

Be safe all with a woof and love
From Layla
