Happy Halloween

TGIF! Happy Friday all my friends, can you believe it is the end of October and that means Halloween.

Mom is like a child BOL when it comes to Halloween as she loves all the costumes, the fun in the streets and of course the candies, but at the same time she makes sure I am safe and enjoying myself.

This year we are not going anywhere, Mom feels it is getting too much all the crowds so we decided instead to share with you some photos of our past Halloween including a photo of my sister Baby and what Mom dressed her in which still makes Mom giggle.

I am a little ballerina, Layla

My personality, a princess but I can be a devil also, Layla

Baby as a fire hydrant

We hope you will enjoy the photos as much as I am enjoying sharing then with you.

Please remember to keep us safe as there are Halloween hazards for your fur babies and especially make sure your cats are safe inside especially if they are back.

Happy Halloween Everyone, please do not eat too much candy or your dentist bill will be high oy vey and please keep all chocolates and candies away from us.

Lots of love and hugs from

Layla

Booo Halloween has arrived

Good morning, friends,

Halloween has arrived and that means lots going on and lots of yummy treats.

Last Sunday we went with Aunt Laura and Coco and Thomas to a Halloween event which was organized by a vet clinic called Dr. Treats, yes can you believe a name like that BOL. It was a parade on Union Street in San Francisco and all the stores along the way gave us treats so it was a yum parade and Mom found two new doggy treat stores which I hope she will take me back to as I need to try everything.

I am riding Dr Treats car vroom in my costume

Mom insulted me with my costume although everyone loved it, you can see my thoughts about it on the video below.

https://youtube.com/shorts/HWP5NajMaHI?feature=share

This Sunday we are doing two events, yes I did say two events, one with Aunt Melinda and the other with Aunt Laura and Coco and Thomas, it is going to be so much fun and the best of all is Mom has to push me in my stroller BOL and work off all the treats so she does not get fat.

So, I am happy to say that events are slowly starting to happen in San Francisco again woof and that is so exciting as it means going different places every weekend.

On a serious note, we must not forget :

Black Cats

Halloween season seems to spark violence against cats in general black cats, and therefore many shelters do not allow the adoption of black cats. Sadly, this does not protect cats that are normally outside from would-be sadists and other miscreants at Halloween-time. So please help keeping all cats especially black ones safe, whether feral or domesticated, they deserve to live a safe life like us all.

Also here is a list of hazards for us pets that we need to keep an eye out so that we can be safe :

On this note, have a Happy Halloween everyone, be safe, enjoy and do not eat too many sweet candies HA.

Now I have spoken, warned all my fur friends about the dangers, am off to sleep.

Woof with love from Layla

600 Million Dogs

TGIF ! Happy Halloween everyone, please keep your pets safe indoors and of course away from the treats, especially your black cats.

This week we going to share with you about my new job. It is my dream job as I am working for an organization that is doing what I believe in, animal rights, spay and neutering your pets to stop the over population in shelters.

Thank you Catherine Hill for helping me put the wording together.

Who is the founder of the 501c3 nonprofit 600 Million Stray Dogs Need You?

600 Million Dogs founder Alex Pacheco has received many awards such as induction into the U.S. Animal Rights Hall of Fame, The Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award, Sea Shepherd Crew Member of the Year; he co-founded PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and served as Board Chairman for 20 years.

Alex Pacheco

What motivated him to start 600 Million Dogs? In his words:

One of the experiences that motivated me was meeting Baby Bear — a pup I found on death row, while I was volunteering at a dog pound in Mexico. While in Mexico, I desperately wanted to help the swarms of starving strays who were everywhere.

The first morning, I found Baby Bear, alone and cowering in the back of a filthy cage. Shaking uncontrollably. His body covered with the dreaded skin disease mange. Half starved.

He was gentle and weak, as I lifted him … yet somehow, strong in spirit. He was so pitiful, I spent the entire day holding him, trying to ease his fear and loneliness — even though 50 other innocent dogs and cats were also going to die that same day. 50 whose suffering I would never get to ease.

Later in the day, Baby Bear was licking my face, but he suddenly stopped when he felt the sting of the needle going into his vein. The lethal “sky-blue sodium pent” drug was on its way to his heart, to end his life.

He looked me right in the eye, and his face spoke to me, asking, “Why? Why are you doing this to me? I thought you were my friend.”

Then his face fell heavy into my hand, and his soul was gone. I tried to man-up, but I couldn’t. Instead, I broke down and began to cry, while trying to hide it from the other workers.

As I slowly regained my composure, it sunk in — his suffering was even more heartbreaking simply because it was 100% preventable.

In anger I swore that no matter what it took, I was going to find a way to end this suffering.

What is the mission of 600 Million Dogs?

To permanently end the #1 cause of suffering for dogs and cats globally: overpopulation.

We are on track to accomplish this by developing special food that can spay or neuter dogs or cats without surgery. Super birth control food that can end the overpopulation problem without killing.

Our mission is to also save human lives by ending the world’s #1 cause of human deaths from rabies.  Our mission also includes ending the #1 financial burden of humane societies worldwide. No animals are harmed in our work, and all animals are adopted into caring homes.

More about 600 Million Dogs:

Imagine being able to Spay or Neuter Every Stray Dog in the World … by feeding them a cookie. We are developing super birth control cookies to permanently end the global #1 cause of suffering for dogs: overpopulation. The fastest way to stop the cruelty and end the suffering of stray dogs is to develop a lifetime-lasting, one-dose birth-control cookie that will spay or neuter without surgery. Our immediate goal is to bring our work and clinical trials into the U.S. to speed up our progress.

Unimaginable cruelty is inflicted upon strays in up to 60 nations with virtually no laws against cruelty. They are brutally beaten to death, thrown into garbage trucks to be crushed to death, poisoned, shot, electrocuted, fed rotten meat with broken glass in it (to make them bleed to death), etc. We must find the fastest way to end this: we must finish development of permanent Super Birth Control Cookies.

Our studies use birth control formulas that already exist; we are applying advanced technology to modify and super-charge them and to convert them into permanent-lasting birth control. We produce infertility by safely changing the gonads and causing early menopause. No animals are harmed. Our Pilot Pups are adopted into forever homes. Thus far there are no negative side effects. Help us keep the cookies non-profit and free to the poor of the world.

We believe this single project can prevent more animal suffering than any other single animal project in history. Up to 10 billion strays will be born in the next 10 years worldwide. The majority will suffer and die painful deaths. A global solution is needed. It is within reach. A Spay and Neuter Cookie could prevent the suffering of 10 billion strays every 10 years. We must do the same for cats, horses, etc. The exciting news: the science and technology already exist. Help is needed. Join us!

So now you all know what I am up to lately with Layla of course stepping up to the plate and speaking out also,

Have a safe Happy Halloween Everyone

With love as always from Layla

October is over but our voice will never be silenced

TGIF !!!!!!!!!!
I cannot believe November is around the corner, this year is going too fast but hopefully it is a good sign and our lives will go back to normal soon. This hibernating is getting too much.

With October ending it is the ending of Domestic Violence Awareness Month although we must keep speaking out, using our voice for those that are being abused, whether humans or pets as they need our voices.

The end of October means Halloween which is not being celebrated this year the way it normally is, my heart does go out to the kids that are missing out but am sure parents are relieved there will be no sugar rushes and fighting over candies.

Halloween can be dangerous for our pets so please look after them, make sure they are safe and do not get into anything toxic.

Plus please keep your black cats safe from the lunatics.

Happy Halloween Everyone, Take care and be safe,

Layla and Me

Wow October is over

TGIF !!!!!!!!!!

We cannot believe that 2019 is nearly over, this year has gone too fast.  Who feels the same way ?

I am typing this while looking out the window at all the kids and dogs dressed up for Halloween and some of the parents too, I can see everyone is having lots of fun and of course you have the drunks among them LOL. Layla is fast asleep and keeping her indoors this evening, rather be safe than sorry.

I am sharing a memory of Baby RIP at the only Halloween Party she went to as the costume was priceless.

I still think one of the best costumes in the world BOL

While talking about Halloween I entered her into this contest and if anyone wants to help her win which would be awesome you can click on the link below and it can be done daily. I plan to donate the Bark Boxes to one of the non profits for their Pet Pantry.

http://wshe.es/lO8z1fAh

Last weekend Layla of course went to the Shih Tzu meet up to play with all her fluffy friends, it was fun to hang out with lots of little fluffs and of course be at a different park.

On Sunday we just relaxed and took it easy hanging out at our park with Danielle, a good friend of mine that owns and runs a Sanctuary in the mountains near Yosemite, chatting and catching up. She does amazing work rescuing all the poor senior, disabled, sick pets that are dumped in shelters so that they can live the rest of their lives in comfort in a home. Layla adores her and was in her element to spend time with her.

On Wednesday some friends of mine took me and Layla on an outing to a beautiful place that I did not know existed and WOW it was amazing. The weather was coolish although warmed up around lunch time.
We walked along this stunning trail with the sea at the end of it, it is called Mori Point near Pacifica about 30 minute drive from San Francisco. Layla was amazing and walked most of it but I carried her in the back pack on the way back to the car as she was hot and tired. That is when I say phew thank goodness I have the cooling vest, backpack and so much more as it makes life so easy to take her.I would have loved to have gone down to the beach but will do it next time I go as I will be more prepared with a towel.

A collage of some of the beauty

I wish I could put all the pics up
I love flowers
the Madam in the car going there, walking and the backpacking

My favorite picture

Layla is exhausted from yesterday and basically been sleeping and eating and quick walks to do her business today LOL, poor baby.

So as you can see we are always on the move although Layla has it easier as when running errands etc I leave her at home.
As you can see life is never boring in the Layla neighborhood and we have a busy weekend ahead of us, another fun outing with friends on Saturday and Sunday we will be going to one of my favorite pet events.
We hope you all had a great Halloween and did not OD on candies LOL or our pampered pets on treats.

And before we forget today, 01 November is National Cook for Your Pets Day, I never knew there would be such a holiday to honor us who do cook for our pets. Here is photo of Layla’s food and just finished putting 4 containers into the freezer.

My Pampered Princess eats well

What are your plans this weekend ? We hope you have a wonderful one and of course cannot wait to see the photos,

Woof with love from Layla

Halloween has arrived

Good Morning all my friends,

The week is over and it has been as busy as always.

I do not normally share what I am doing but the last two weeks I have been running around going to interviews as I am planning to stop teaching and do something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I am looking into becoming an advocate for those that need help and in the spring hopefully will be doing a course in Domestic Violence Advocacy so it has been crazy here and Layla has been stuck at home more than normal.

So over the weekend we spent quality time together in the park as the weather was perfect and we are trying to take advantage of it before the winter arrives. I made no plans so that it would be just her and me and it was awesome as I am feeling guilty LOL.

When October arrives Halloween parties at pet stores pop up everywhere but this year I chose to do one only.

There is a great pet store here in the city, Pawtrero that every month has a Yappy hour on the third Wednesday of the month in their dog park and yesterday was Halloween themed so I packed Layla in her back pack, took her on the tram which she loves, and off we went. It was a really great event and Ray, the owner is just amazing always organizing fun events, gives back to the community and helps the rescues. They will be having another great event next month which I love to go to every year and really looking forward to it.  Thanks Ray as always for the fun and wonderful photo you took of Layla, plus Layla woofs thanks Uncle for the goody bag I came home with.

Yesterday was really hot so I kept Layla inside although in the late evening we went to the park and just sat chatting with friends which is a great way to end the week.

This weekend is busy, Layla has her Shih Tzu meet up which will be fun and after we going to meet a good friend of mine who owns and runs this amazing sanctuary  near Yosemite.

DREAMS, a final resting place for Disabled R Senior Animals. A home sanctuary in the hills of the central valley of Cali, for senior animals in need

On Sunday I have not yet made plans LOL.

What are your plan for Halloween? Any dog Halloween parties? We would love to hear from you.

So now Madam is going to bed, dreaming of treats LOL,

Have a wonderful weekend and HAPPY HALLOWEEN Woof

With love and woofs

From Layla

October is a busy month

TGIF !!!!!

As you know October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month where we pray for all the victims, both humans and animals that they will be able to get away from the abuse safely.

So before I start with what has been happening in the Layla Neighborhood I want to remind everyone what to do if your pet is threatened. It is so important to remember this as this way you will know you have proof that your abuser abused your pets too which will make it easier for you to get them away.

October is a month where I think and miss Baby a lot as she was part of that dark chapter of my life but another reason I miss her is because October is filled with so many Halloween events which I was never able to do with her so I try to do as many as possible with Layla, and I often question myself am I doing it for her or out of guilt not being able to do it all with Baby.

Last weekend we went to a great Halloween Event held by one of the Paw Barkeries in San Francisco. It was so much fun with so many dogs and costumes I could not keep up with them all. Of course there were loads of treats so Layla had a party munching away all the time LOL.

I am putting up some of the photos here of some of the costumes.

There were also different vendors and an introduction to insects from a non profit that is trying to save all insects.

As I always do I used a backpack for Layla to keep her safe with everyone pushing and walking around. This is a new backpack that I received from the company called Mr. Peanut’s Pet Products. It was so comfy to carry Layla in, she was so happy and one thing I really loved about it was that when I sat down to have coffee I could lie it on its side and she could lie down and have a nap.

The backpack is PETA certified, made of vegan leatherette and faux fleece bedding pads. It is a great backpack, light weight, weighing only 2.4 lbs, waterproof which is great for when it rains, has really great ventilation with breathable mesh on 3 sides, removable fleece travel bed and compartments for treats, poop bags or medications. It comes with a 2 in 1 feeder travel set, 12 oz duel sided collapsible bowl and an amazing 20 oz Water Bottle. It is also airline approved which for those that fly with their pets it is just perfect.

They also have a program that pays forward so when you shop from them you are supporting a shelter also, and businesses that do that for me are a winner.

For more information about their products which are socially aware, ecologically produced and safe for your pets you can visit their website : https://www.mrpeanutspremiumproducts.com/

And before I forget to all our cat friends their products are for cats too.

While I am typing all this there are jets flying over head practicing for Fleet Weekend, I personally think a waste of money which could be used for so many non profit organizations that are struggling. It also reminds me of the October 1973 war when I was sitting in school with jets flying over head protecting Israel.

So as you can see October is full of memories for me, but am at this same time trying to make great new fun memories which will not wipe out the bad but helps make the month look good instead.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,With a love and woof from Layla

Boo Halloween is around the corner

Woof it is me !!!!

October is coming to an end and although it means that Domestic Violence Awareness Month might be ending but it does not mean we must forget about Domestic Violence that happens daily all over the world and we must not forget the abuse the poor animals go through because of it. We must keep standing up for them and be their voices.

With our reminder of this awful daily occurrence below is a list those in this situation should try to remember to do, keeping a journal and having it all written down will make life easier when one runs as they will have proof. It is not easy to do but the more information you have the better.

Below is the National Domestic Violence website.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

We pray you will be safe and get away safely from the abuse.

Halloween is a fun holiday for kids but can be really frightening for pets and therefore we should take all the precautions to keep them safe.

Layla does not get dressed up as she is uncomfortable in a costume and her comfort comes first in my eyes although in the past LOL I did try so am sharing with you some of her pictures – but those days are long gone and now her costume is her dress harness which she seems fine in.

Below is a list of how to keep your pets safe during Halloween as they are part of our family and need to be.

So as this is the last blog for October and another month is beginning next week we would like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween, do not OD on candies LOL and of course please keep your pets safe.

Layla

Halloween Memories

Woof woof everyone,

With Halloween around the corner and we have been discussing this month Domestic Violence Awareness I am going to share with you one of my special memories of Halloween which was in the shelter.

When Mothers and kids run from the abuse many arrive with very little and have to start all over again. It is really sad to see these kids with a small bag with literally nothing inside and a Mother trying to soothe the child. The staff at the shelters are amazing and immediately step in with toys, clothing, hygiene items and whatever else is needed. I remember when I got to the shelter at night and was shown my room on the bed was a care package waiting for me with all the necessities to get me started. It is a comforting feeling to know you are being looked after and can finally breathe.

So when a holiday comes up like Halloween all the kids are treated to costumes of their choice donated by wonderful giving people and that way they do not have to feel left out when going to school or just walking down the road. The laughter and happiness in those moments is something money cannot buy. They also do get bags for their candy and of course lots of candy LOL.

I had Baby with me in the shelter at the time and there were Halloween dog parties in different pet stores so I decided to go get her a costume. I did not have much money and went to Goodwill and was lucky to find one that fits. I thought it was a space outfit until someone told me it was a fire hydrant ROFL, I fell off the bed laughing so much but she looked adorable in it.

So because we are on this subject we decided to skip the diary this week as we had a slow week and instead talk about trick or treating, or as Layla woofs treating only as she will not do tricks. You all know we love to support small businesses and when Jen approached us to give Layla Halloween treats I said yes for definite plus we decided to do a give away so one other dog can be spoiled too.

Layla was in seventh heaven when I opened the package, so many boxes beautifully wrapped and so many different smells, it was mind boggling for her as to where to start. I just sat back trying to take pics but she was moving too fast from excitement. She devoured a pumpkin looking one and wanted more but as she had not eaten her breakfast I said no and she will get another after dinner.

What I love about her treats is that they are all wheat, grain and soy free which really makes a difference when you have a dog with food allergies. The frosting is made of yoghurt with different flavors so in a way they are kind of healthy LOL. I will highly recommend these treats to everyone.
