Good Morning Friends, this is Nili here as I am learning to review for Mom like my sister Layla the expert did, I hope she approves.
I recently took Nili for a checkup at the vet as she has been scratching badly and the vet suggested I give her coconut oil. This intrigued me as my one vet had told me negative things about coconut oil and this vet is saying the opposite. So, I decided to do some research and as to why one vet said one thing and another the opposite and came up with some interesting facts which made me realize how important coconut oil can be for pets. Before trying please ask your vet as rather be safe than sorry as some supplements might have the opposite affect on your dog.
I want to thank Charisa from CocoTherapy for helping me with all the information that I am sharing plus the products that I am trying with Nili.
The benefits:
- In small quantities it is good for the pet as it is good fat which is important to remember when we worry about cholesterol in our pets. Coconut oil is considered a low cholesterol fat and does not increase cholesterol levels.
- You can read more about it on this link : A Beginner’s Guide to Cholesterol
https://www.cocotherapy.com/blogs/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-cholesterol?_pos=1&_psq=cholesterol&_ss=e&_v=1.0 - Coconut oil has lauric acid which has antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. which is good for the fur and skin. When applied to the skin it can help soothe the inflamed area.
- Coconut oil is lower in calories than many other cooking oils, and it’s actually an effective weight loss aid. The MCTs in coconut oil are metabolized quickly and used for energy, rather than being stored as fat. This helps boost metabolism and aids in weight management. What’s more, coconut oil can help suppress appetite. All fats slow down the emptying of the stomach, helping you feel full for longer, but studies have shown that MCTs have a greater satiating effect than LCTs. This means that coconut oil can help your pet feel fuller for longer and prevent them from overeating.
- It helps fight bad breath, mouth and gum health.
- It also helps digestions but like any supplement ask your vet first.

I love coconut oil. It really does some good things as long as it’s a gradual introduction and has vet approval. Henry loves coconut oil as well. I will even rub a small amount on his fur and into his skin when he gets itchy. It does definitely work. I’m glad it’s helping Nili. I’ll be curious to see which of these coconut supplements she likes best or which has the biggest noticeable benefit. I love that you’re using coconut oil as a natural remedy for Nili. Natural is always my favorite!
Terri everything she is getting that I mentioned in the blog is helping – the coconut chips are awesome as I sprinkle them in her food and she loves them, the gems she cannot get enough of LOL and in a nutshell she is doing so much better plus her coat is so shiny now also. I approve all of them and am sure Henry would too.
Our senior boy Harvey loved coconut oil, it make his cot glossy and gave him a spring in his step. It is always worth considering natural remedies as they can make a big difference in the smallest of ways. Bright eyes, happy demeanour, healthy pet.
Marjorie it is fantastic and am so happy Harvey loved it also as it has so many healthy benefits it is so worth giving it to our pets, I love natural products for Nili as the less chemicals the better. Thanks so much for agreeing with me
Great job, Nilli! Layla would be proud. I’m so happy the coconut oil is helping with her skin issues, that’s great. I’ve always heard good things about coconut oil for dogs but I’ve never tried it. I like that you can get it in yummy treat form.
Cathy it is a wonderful supplement, healthy in so many ways and what I really love is it has no cholesterol phew. The treats are amazing, small so not fattening as such and she loves the different flavors. A must have for Jesse and Icy.
Yes, I’ve been a firm believer in coconut oil for years. I gave it every day to my FiveSibes, and also wrote a few articles about it. You have stated it all here…great info! I hope others who haven’t tried adding it to their dog’s diet, do (with vet OK of course). And those coconut chips…oh, my five would have loved those! Enjoy Miss Nili! Great post, Rochelle!
Dorothy She is loving them and I am so relieved I decided to try with her it has made a big difference in so many ways plus she loves the tiny treats and wants them all the time LOL. Your Sibes were very lucky to have you as a Mom as they had such a good life with all the good supplements.
Thanks as always for your compliments and Nili woofs Hiiiiiiiiii
