Nili’s journey home to me

Good Morning friends,

Today 2 years ago Nili made the long journey from Palm Springs to her home in San Francisco.

I was very blessed by my friends for stepping in and fostering her the two weeks till we could find someone to bring her to me. She has spent two weeks living with them, been spoiled by the family and playing with Winnie, their rescued dog.

As you all know Nili, was rescued from the L.A. Animal control where they put all her details down and I have subsequently learned they were not correct. Here name at the shelter was Gladys and all I thought was oy vey, I could not keep that name. A friend of mine who does animal rescue explained to me they cannot always do it as they do not have the funding for DNA tests. Avi, my friend took her to the vet for a check up and told me that she was not afraid at all WOW, and the vet told him the following:

She was sure Nili is about 2-2.5 years at most based upon her teeth and the brightness in her eyes. She has been through one or two heat cycles but does not think she has given birth. She is very healthy. No Upper respiratory infection at all and she was spayed when she got home.. She heard no wheezing or crackling in her lungs that the Shelter said she had and that is why they did not spay her. . She weighed 16.4 lbs. She has a cutaneous histiocytoma on her head which has cleared up.   She said Nili is a very healthy, alert pup, and a great rescue.

I drove myself nuts and child proofed the house, had everything ready and drove myself crazy waiting for her arrival.  Matt who brought her to me every couple of hours texted Avi and then Avi would text me with updates. It is a long ride from Palm Springs to San Francisco, about 8 hours and he stopped along the way so she could potty  but she slept peacefully in her expandable pet carrier that the company Mr Peanuts gave her. They are such a fantastic small family business and so quick to help where possible. They sent  her a large expandable carrier, medium sized one and a pink regular carrier so Nili was spoiled. The medium sized I left with Avi to give to whoever he would like to as sharing is caring and that is so important.

Being bribed to get into the carrier

Here is their link and I strongly suggest you look at all their amazing reasonable products.

Nili had a lot to learn upon arrival but she has settled in well, listens 90% of the time to commands LOL and if you use the magic work treat she really listens LOL.

.Her friends in Palm Springs Quasii and Winnie

Upon arrival she pottied, ate some food, explored the apartment and then went to bed.

I want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you thank you thank you to Jonathan, Avi, Will, Shai, Boaz, Quasi, Winnie and Matt for helping me with everything, keeping Nili safe and amused and most of all getting her home to me, I am so blessed to have you all in my life.

Have a wonderful weekend, we hope you have loads of fun and relax also,

With a woof and love

Happy Gotcha Day Nili

We are celebrating today Nili’s Gotcha Day, it is two years since I rescued her from LA Animal Care and Control. How time has gone so quickly and I am sure Layla is smiling over the Rainbow Bridge or giggling as she watches Nili get up to mischief.

I remember the day I saw her online on Facebook, her name there was Gladys and all I could picture was me standing in a dog park calling Gladys, I am sure half the park would have laughed at me but as per my tradition I gave her a Hebrew Name: Nili – which means forever Israel. I love the name because it is short and easy to pronounce.

Nili in her cage at LA Animal Control

I have been reading Nili’s intake papers from Animal Control as I was curious to know more about her and this is what I found, her intake was on 6 July 2024, and she was a stray/OTC.  What I have learned about OTC for stray pets is that she was brought to the Shelter by a person who found her and I would love to thank that person for saving her from the streets. She was not microchipped so they could not find her family but is microchipped now so she is safe. She was a perfect weight when they took her in, had no wounds but a scab on her head which had since gone.  They also wrote that she was born in 2021 so she is 5 years old today.

Leaving Animal Control

I think Nili is a Fireworks runner because of the date of her intake but am not sure, the most important is that she will never be alone on the streets again.

Nili went from LA to Palm Springs where she stayed with some friends of mine till we could find a lift to bring her to SF, where she is now a San Francisco dog living the life of a princess.

At Uncles before I came home, one of my favorite photos

Since her arrival she has grown so much, her confidence is amazing, she is fearless in many ways playing with big and small dogs in the park, very food motivated which is one of my biggest problems as she eats anything and everything off the streets but is learning slowly not to do it. Her mischief is showing every day is many ways, she tries jumping onto the kitchen counter, digs up the bed, explores the dog park going too far which makes me chase her as she ignores me, and one of her favorites is to bark at me for attention when I am working or on the phone.

One of her favorite playmates in the park, Mocha

She loves howling when sirens go off, she has a partner in crime with this and we just laugh, see the video below.

My one Gotcha Gift was a squeaky ant which has in Hebrew the Yiddish word Shpilkis which means antsy as Mom says I have ants in my pants BOL

So, to my darling devil Nili, Mom loves you, I count my blessings daily that you are part of my life and keeping me on my toes all the time with your antics but if you are happy, I am happy and life is too short to make a big deal over things.

Happy Gotcha Day!!!!!!

Lots of love Mom and Angel Layla
