What is so special about this day.

 

It is a day when the world will share and discuss the importance of pet adoption, and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. We all come from different countries, religions but one thing we all have in common is the fate of the pets in shelters so we need to be their voice.

Those orphan pets in the shelters need homes, want a warm bed to sleep in, good food, toys but most of all they want to be loved by humans so every time one is adopted you are saving a life.

We can help by spreading the word, changing the minds of people to open their hearts also.

  1. Adopt and open your house to an orphan pets
  2. Donate to a rescue that is saving the pets from the shelter, we are helping one rescue who saves the seniors and disabled dogs that have been dumped in the shelters, they go and live at a Sanctuary in the foothills of California where they will live the rest of their lives with love, warmth, food and comfort.  We are helping this Sanctuary this week financially by asking everyone to donate a couple of dollars which is used for vet bills, food and whatever is needed for these dogs. The name of the Sanctuary is Dreams Disabled R Elderly Animal Mountain Sanctuary

Puppy Mill Awareness Day

TGIF phew the weekend has arrived.

Tomorrow is a very important date in our calendar, Puppy Mill Awareness Day.

It is held on the third Saturday in September to encourage those looking for a new dog, to adopt, not shop. An observance dedicated to improving the lives of dogs, the day spreads the word about the poor conditions of puppy mills.

We need to educate people so that they will realize where their puppies come from and the life the mothers of the puppies have.

What is a puppy mill?

It is a place where dogs are kept in cages in the dark, with no medical care, not enough food or water and are treated like baby making machines with no life.

Missouri is considered the leading puppy mill state in the country. Over time, puppy mills have spread to other states, the highest concentration is in the Midwest, but there are also high concentrations in other areas, including Pennsylvania, Ohio and upstate New York.

Dog farming is a large part of the economy for many Amish communities. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Holmes County, Ohio, and Shipshewana, Indiana are home to thousands of breeding dogs that will spend their lives in puppy mills. This might surprise you given the reputation of the Amish, and is a side of the Amish community of which most people are not aware of and would never knowingly support.

What is a dog auction?

Not many people have heard of a dog auction. Dog auctions are common in the puppy mill industry, and are particularly common in Amish communities. A dog auction is the same as a livestock auction; it is simply limited to selling dogs as well as housing and breeding equipment.

The dogs sold most of them suffer from chronic untreated painful conditions such as ear infections, rotten teeth, urinary tract infections, sores on their feet, mastitis, and more.

These dogs have never felt the warmth or love from a human in their lives and need a lot of patience once adopted to adjust to their new lives.

One of the important reasons for speaking out about Puppy Mills is because of the lives the poor dogs live, but also to stop pet stores for selling puppies which most of the time come from Puppy Mills.

So we are speaking against Puppy Mills or any breeder as there are so many dogs waiting in shelters to be adopted and being euthanized because of lack of space. Enough is enough.

To all our readers please do not shop but adopt, save a life as they save ours, and a dog does not have to be pure bred to be perfect, mutts rock and in my house mutts are what I rescue.

September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month

Good morning everyone,

Friday has finally arrived and not soon enough, I am exhausted as it has been a crazy week.

Last Saturday we went to my favorite park which was such a beautiful day to be out in nature, with friends and just relax. We did not walk down to the lake which I normally do as the coyotes are out and about and was not comfortable. We came home exhausted and just relaxed.

 

Since Tuesday I have been trying to get hold of my vet office to get an appointment – bi annual senior for Layla and finally today managed to get one with one of my favorite vets. My favorite vet has left the clinic and not sure where he has gone but am going to try find out. So I am finally breathing and relaxed phew plus was told I can go in with her which is even better.

 

September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month which is a really important reminder for all of us who are dog parents.

The reason for this is to help us raise healthy happy dogs and it is a good reminder for all of us.

Some of the basics of responsible dog ownership include:

  • Regular vet exams
  • Keeping them up to date on all their vaccinations
  • Keeping them fit and not over weight. Feed them a healthy diet only and if possible no kibbles.
  • Putting dog care in our monthly budget for vet care, grooming, food and treats
  • Making sure their microchip and tags are all up to date
  • Keep your puts inside so that they do not suffer in summer or winter
  • Spay or neuter your dogs as there are so many in shelters looking for homes.
  • Be prepared for Natural Disasters
  • Lots of love and playtime

It is so easy to do the above as they are our fur kids and depend on us to live a healthy happy life.

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month

Good Morning, TGIF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September has arrived and with it just chaotic weather everywhere, natural disasters that has made me think about how precious life is, how important it is for us to look after the environment for the future generations and at the moment it feels as if there is one disaster after another as if there is no time to breathe in between.

So with this lets all step back and look at what is happening in this country:

  1. Hurricane Ida, the devastation is horrific, the lives lost both humans and animals, what people are having to face today and slowly get back on their feet again. Rescue Organizations running around trying to save every animal from drowning, endless hours of work which I so admire, emptying the shelters to make space for all those poor displaced animals. If only people
  2. The fires burning all over California and the loss of animal life, vegetation and it hurts me so much to see this on TV.

And then I go back to saying September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and what else will happen this month? Are we really prepared in our house for one? What do we really need? It worries me as I wonder what if I am not home when an earthquake happens. Will Layla be ok? Do any of you think of this?

I always worry that the items in my disaster bag which is next to the door is not enough.  I recheck once a month but I then say will I have time to pick up and run when an earthquake hits, and the more I think about it I think to myself maybe I should try a trial run this week. It might sound crazy but would rather be safe than sorry.

So this is emergency bag :

Water / flashlight / batteries / radio / change of clothing / food for Layla and me / her supplements / poop bags / dog treats / blanket / toy for her / first aid kit / copies of documents / cash / usb drives of all my computer files / my beach canopy that I could use as a tent and other sentimental items of mine.  It sounds a lot but I still wonder if it is enough. I also have a collapsible pet carrier to put her in so she will be feel safe plus her backpack to carry her out of the house in so she does not walk on the sidewalks in case there is debris and could get hurt.

I also say that I can live off bread and water but her food is extremely important.

So when all these disasters hit us, and however much we are prepared we all lose material items which for me is as I say, something that can be replaced, but the lives of the animals and birds cannot so it is so important to do as much as possible to protect them.

On this note I am asking everyone to be safe, prayers going out to those that were hit by the hurricane and most of all a big thank you  to all those that step up and help those that need the help, you are all angels.

Most important our pets are family and should not be left behind to fend for themselves as you are serving them a death sentence.
