It is a long weekend

Spread the love

Hi Friends,

Mom told me that this weekend is a long weekend, that means I have her for 3 full days, no work only play and that sounds so exciting. I hope she has some fun lined up for me as I need some fun in the sun (hopefully) and of course playtime with my friends.

Mom explained to me that Memorial Day is a sad day as we remember all those that lost their lives in wars, terrorist attacks and so much more and we must not forget out four legged friends also, they are heroes too. So we are going to lie low on Monday out of respect but am sure we will go to the park for some fun, while Mom of course drinks her coffee BOL. She needs her coffee as much as I need my friends there so it is a win win situation plus we are outside in the sun.

Please keep them safe

Last Friday Aunt Alice, Mom and I went to Lake Blue Heron for a picnic, it was such a beautiful day to sit next to water, watch the ducks and the racoons (lots of them) and as Mom said while I barked BOL they chatted and caught up. It was a couple of hours of heaven, fresh air, wildlife, picnic and sun. I am sharing some of the photos here so you can see what Mom’s favorite past time is BOL. She tied me with an extra leash to the bench so that I could not go far or jump into the lake to try catch a duck, I was not happy but what Mom says is done and I have to obey. If I don’t obey I don’t get treats grr.

Can you see the racoon, I made sure he knew I was there, Nili

Showing his face to everyone

I want to go into the water to chase them but Mom won’t let me, Nili

On Wednesday I met Lauren, my dog behaviorist so that I can learn not to eat off the streets, not to eat the mud in the park, not to pull on my leash so Mom can fall and many other tricks, it was fun going for a walk with Lauren also so for me school is beginning also. Lauren told Mom I am very smart, oy vey BOL, very pretty and a good girl in many ways and she was so happy to see me entertain myself while they were talking, Yes I made a mess and threw all the toys everywhere and it is fun watching Mom pick them all up so I can start all over again.

So as you can all read, I am a very busy girl, keeping Mom busy from morning till night, in between her doing everything else so life is good in the Nili Neighborhood and as Mom says she is blessed to have me although she does miss my sister Angel Layla.

My Angel Layla

Have a wonderful safe weekend everyone, please keep us safe and make lots of memories,

With love and woof from Nili

  1. I’m glad you mentioned the bones. Last year I worked on an article about whether or not dogs understand death, and ended up hearing about the last moments of about 300 dogs. A terribly large percentage of young healthy dogs who passed, died from eating chicken bones.

I’ve never given my dog a chicken bone because general advise is not to, but I think it really needs to be perpetually refreshed in people’s memories so it doesn’t continue to happen to more precious pups.

    • Andrea I remember your post as it stook out and was so true. Chicken bones are a death sentence for dogs and we need to remind pet parents all the time about them to prevent harm, sickness or death. I will not give Nili chicken bones and that is why she wears the bonnet/mask to prevent her from picking them up in the street till she learns it is a no no.

  2. Such a valuable article! The Memorial Day safety tips are excellent! So many people don’t think about the fat in our food hurting our pups. Boy, it sure can do damage and result in a very sick pup and a pricey vet bill. I bet you had a great time last week. Two hours in paradise sounds delightful. I’m glad you began your sessions with the behaviorist. I can’t wait to hear all about the details and improvements as time passes and much is learned. Henry would love for his buddy to have a cookie. Wishing you both a safe and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend.

    • Terri I love that place, it is heaven for me and Nili loves it too, it was so great being out in nature enjoying the fresh air. It is so important to remind pet parents about the hazards to avoid them getting sick and as you say costly vet visits. I am also happy we have started sessions with the behaviorist and hopefully the puzzle will fall into place an I will be more relaxed and happy. We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and Henry got lost of cookies and Nili woofs he deserves them.

    • Terry a tired pup is a happy pup so I try to keep her busy and outdoors as it is so healthy for her plus for me, plus different adventures add to her life as she experiences new things. Thanks as always for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop and your stories about your cats which I love.

  3. Bones. Heaven helps us. Bones are so dangerous (small ones) I know dogs adore a big bone to chew sometimes but little ones YIKES! Nili you do NOT go near bones OK, you do what Mom says because she knows best OK?

    • Marjorie small bones freak me out and that is why she is wearing the mask till she learns not to eat them, I agree big ones are ok but not off the streets but from home where they are fresh and healthy, I keep telling her I am the Boss LOL.

  4. We were in the Vet ER (with a now foster pup who was found emaciated and with a rectal prolapse as a stray) this weekend and the lobby was full! Lots of animals suffering from everything you warned about plus animal bites. Glad you guys had a fun and safe weekend! We owe our pups some extra special fun 🙂

    • Tiffany, OmG i am so sorry and she is so lucky to have you foster her and help her heal, there are so many suffering at the moment especially foxtails and allergies and we need to keep them healthy and safe from it all. We had a great weekend thank you and we owe our pups everything for their unconditional love

    • Dorothy thanks we need to be reminded of the safety tips, rather be safe than sorry. As for the racoon, he was not happy with her barking but it was adorable to see her meet him and it was just great being outdoors in nature.
Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
