Living with a Rescued Pup

Hi, this is Nili speaking as Mom is learning a lot about puppies from me as my Angel sister Layla was not a pup when she was rescued, and Mom has lots to learn.

Mom took me to the vet for a check up on Tuesday, oy vey it was scary and me being stubborn refuses to travel in the back pack so I sat on the floor under her legs on the bus, I do not like busses but am learning, Mom was kind enough when there was space to pick me up and I stood on a seat looking out of the window which was fun. We walked from the stop to the Clinic which was great as I had lots of new smells to smell. Once we got inside, I rode the elevator to the waiting room and waited for my vet. When we were called into a room for my check up, I had a big accident with diarrhea oy vey, Mom was so embarrassed but the vet tech laughed and said to Mom accidents happen, cleaned it up plus put some in a test tube to check for parasites and heartworm. The Vet said I am very healthy, 2 lbs overweight which Mom is now working on. Mom also discussed me eating off the streets and the mud in the dog park, and of course the vet had a solution as you can see from the photo below. I do not like it but the guard is actually very helpful as it prevents me from getting foxtails also. I can drink water through it so Mom is happy, and my face is now packaged till I behave. It was not cheap, but Mom explained to me that it is cheaper than vet bills. I paid $59.00 for it from my local pet store.

Can you believe I have to wear this to stay healthy, Nili

Another thing the vet pointed out to me which I am so happy she did, is the LA Animal Control only gives one year Rabies shot so I have to get another in July, plus they only gave me one Distemper Shot and I should have two, so she gave me one while I was there, so I am now good to go till my next visit. She sent Mom home with a Puppy Pack of all information about puppies which is interesting and has taught Mom a lot plus some flea stuff as flea season has arrived.

We have since gotten the results back on my tests and all is negative, so Mom is double happy BOL.

Other than that, Nigel spent 8 days with us, Mom had a terrible cold, so between walking both of us daily and separately she was taking care of herself to get rid of the cold so we spent less time in the park but hopefully that will start happening again.

I need some playtime in the park to help me lose weight, Nili

So that has been our week, never a dull moment here, and I am really excited as Mom is taking me tomorrow to my first Dog Festival, DogFest which is held annually in our dog park, it is a fundraiser for the Mckinnley Elementary School, although this year we are visiting and not doing a booth. I cannot wait as I have heard from my dog friends there will be lots to eat and loads of samples of goodies.  Mom told me if I eat too much tomorrow Sunday is going to be carrots only all-day BOL.

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter, and will relax this weekend with lots of fun and memories,

With a woof and lick from Nili

My first real adventure

TGIF! Hi friends, I am sure my sister will be very proud of me as I went on my first real adventure last Sunday which included a train ride, car ride and then lots of fun in a new dog park.

On the first Sunday of every month the Chihuahuas of San Francisco meet up in Stern Grove Dog Park. Mom has been going on and off since my sister Baby was on earth and then with Layla and now me. I know I am not a chihuahua, but we are always welcome and it is loads of fun.

Mom wanted to take me on the train in the backpack but I hate that contraption so she took me on the train without it. The train was scary and I am sorry there no photos but Mom was busy keeping me calm, not getting off and making sure I lay down to keep my balance. I moaned here and there and I have decided that it is no fun but as Mom says I have to get used to it if I want to go places with her. Mom calls it tough love.

Uncle Mark picked us up from the train station and took us to the park, the car was ok but I do not like them that much. When we got to the park the fun started and so much fun and food for both humans and us dogs. I barked, sniffed all the dogs and then saw the big dogs so I started chasing them, don’t tell Mom but Huskies are my favorite dogs to play with woof woof. Mom then took me for a long walk or should I say I ran along the park to the Lake where my sister’s (Layla) ashes are to say hi to her and Mom wanted to sit in the peace and quiet there with her memories but I wandered around and saw the ducks, which I wanted to chase but they were in the water. It is so beautiful there and now I understand why Mom spread Layla’s ashes there.

Mom says I look so tiny compared to the trees BOL

The ducks and turtles on the rock

Watching the ducks

On the walk back to everyone I ran, stuck my head down gopher holes BOL, sniffed a lot and just ran around happy as Mom was relaxed and happy also.

Hmmm Lots to smell

We did not take the train home, Aunt Suzanne gave us a lift which was pawsome as we got home quicker so we could nap which Mom needed. Of course that evening we went to the dog park for an hour and then called it a day.

Waiting to go home

This Saturday night starts Passover, the Jewish Holiday so Mom tomorrow is going to finish getting the house ready, she has promised to take me to the dog park to play with my friends especially as the sun is shining, and otherwise nothing exciting is happening.

To all our friends I want to wish you Chag Sameach, Happy Passover and don’t eat too much oy vey.

Lots of love

Nili

National Stray Animal Day

Hi Friends, today I am doing what my angel sister Layla used to do, speaking out for the voiceless.

Today, 4 April, is National Stray Animal Day. It is a day to raise awareness about the plight of stray animals worldwide and encourage us to improve their lives, including adoption and responsible pet ownership.

The reason animals become strays is not their fault but humans. You might not agree with me but if your animal is microchipped, information up to date they are less likely to become a stray if they escape, their lives are safe, and they will not end up in shelters.

That is what happened to Nili. She was not microchipped so when she escaped from her former family, she landed up in LA Animal Control and the rest is history, she now lives the pampered life. She is microchipped and perfectly safe.

Mom is working hard to keep me healthy, she says from Pound to Princess I am, Nili

When adopting Nili I immediately put her on supplements to boost her immune system as I feel the younger they start getting them the healthier long term they are and I am a big believer of the mushroom supplements. I have added a new one to her diet, Mushroom Mobility Soft Chews for both Cats and Dogs.

The Ingredients in them are:

You can find them on this link : https://shop.realmushrooms.com/?ref=488

You have a 10% coupon with LaylasWoof

So, as you can see Mom is doing her best with me and I need to start listening to her more and behaving, which is really hard to do BOL. We have been going to the park at least twice a day at the moment cos it has been warm and sunny and I am loving it cos I can run around like crazy, chase the dogs and of course have become a mooch pooch begging for treats from everyone like all the other dogs do, Mom has asked everyone not to give me as she is watching my weight but BOL I get them whenever possible, Mom is now calling me chunky Monkey and is scared the vet will get angry with her BOL.

Sitting on the window sill barking at all the passers by – my new thing BOL, Nili

Our plans this weekend is to relax and take it easy as Mom says she needs to recharge her batteries and I might be nice and let her,

Have a wonderful weekend Friends and make lots of memories.

Love Nili

I am growing up, Nili

TGIF!! Happy Friday friends, my angel sister Layla is watching me grow up from heaven and I think she would be proud of me.

We had a hectic week this week, Mom had lots to do, and she told me she is exhausted today BOL. So, this weekend we are taking it slow and weather permitting I am going to spend time in the park playing while Mom drinks her coffee. Mom has her coffee, and I have my treats which I think is fair.

On Wednesday I went to the groomers, I have been itching a bit so Mom decided I needed a haircut. I do not like them although they told Mom I was very good although I made sure I got lots of treats for the torture. We walked there about 2 miles and by the time we got there Mom was very tired but I as always had lots of energy. She left me there and went home to finish house cleaning and they texted her when I was ready. So, she cheated and took a bus to pick me up and then told me we were going to take a bus home. It was my first time on a bus which I did not like that much but Mom told me I will learn to ride them so we can go to different places but the best was on the way home we stopped in the park for some fun.

Walking to the groomers

Mommy don’t leave me please

Getting after the groom treats, do I look pretty ? I also got this bowtie from them

Sitting on the bus going home

The most exciting news this week is I am off a long leash now in the park and can run around like a lunatic burning off energy, chasing dogs and of course roll on the lawn especially after the groom BOL. It is so much fun, and I am being a good girl listening when Mom calls me and I run back to her, if I do that guess what? I get a treat, so it is so worth listening to Mom. I am being very good, not going far and having fun.

You can see me run fast chasing Charlie on the below video :

https://youtube.com/shorts/26htO6AxA3w?si=6Cyh9WBwMaZ-Nf1w

So, you see my friends, I am growing up, I can now run freely in the park but as Mom says to be a real grown up I need to stop pulling on the leash which I am slowly doing plus vacuuming the streets of all the food which is not good for me but so yummy.  Those are my new lessons till I excel in them. Mom is not such a bad teacher after all and she is very proud of herself BOL.

What are your plans this weekend? I hope you are going to have lots of fun and make memories. We cannot wait to hear and see the photos.

Be safe and have a wonderful week, stay warm

With a woof and love from Nili.

Today was National Love Your Pet Day

Woof to all my friends,

Did you know that Valentines might be over but today, Thursday  February 20th is National Love Your Pet Day?

This is a very special day as it makes us humans realize how much we love our pets and how fortunate we are to have them in our lives. Something I would not change ever. I am aware that we spoil our pets daily, but I love the idea of one day a year is dedicated to them.

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet? There are more cats than dogs in the U.S., most households have dogs not cats, but the difference is not that much. Pets are not only canine and feline, there are quite a few who prefer birds, reptiles, fish, or rats.

Whatever pet it is they all deserve to be extra spoiled on this day.

Below are some ideas of what we can do, and we cannot wait to hear from you what you did. I spoiled Nili by taking her to the park for some fun, baked her some yum treats and gave her more attention than she normally gets, she was one happy girl.

Angel Layla sharing her ideas

Nili playing with Monkey in the park, she had so much fun

So, all my fur friends I hope you had a Happy National Love Your Pet Day with lots of treats, fun with your humans and please make lots of memories.

With a woof and love from Nili and my sister in heaven, Angel Layla

Walking Nili in the rain

TGIF!! It has been raining nonstop all week, and I am sure Layla is chuckling as I fight Nili to go for walks or should I stay swimming. She does not like the rain, and she does not like raincoats, so we walk without one and we come home drenched. Nili does not  like the hairdryer either so I have to towel dry her for as long as she allows me and then I put the heater on to warm her up. (I am scared to know what my bill is going to be). Another new quirk with her is grabbing a toy on the way out so she has one in her mouth while walking, I always take them away from her before leaving as I do not want her to get them dirty.

Mom is calling me a wet rag from the rain and my walk

I have come to the conclusion that once she starts walking, she is happy as the entire street smells food and I try to avoid it all but when she manages to get something in her mouth, she is happy and I am not. But I have come to the conclusion that this little girl was a stray and used to eating off the ground so her tummy is used to it and I cannot fight her anymore and getting bit and bleeding. I know it sounds crazy and until she gets proper training (am waiting for a trainer) the walking food fight is going to carry on. One of her cute quirks when walking her is she walks up to people for pets and the rolls on her back for belly rubs, everyone just laughs and rubs her belly, it is really cute and reminds me of my dog Baby who was with me before Layla as she used to do the same. I call her the meet and greet on the street needing belly rubs. She is very stubborn, and it is either her way or no way and she will sit. Every day I am learning something new of her. Never a dull moment. I am open to all suggestions to make my life easier when walking her.

So, with the rain, and us being stuck inside, I have been keeping Nili playing with her and her squeaky toys and we are already minus 5 toys that she has totally killed, stuffing all over the house, a squeaker in pieces and she is having the time of her life, never boring.

Below is a video of her evening ritual, I sit and talk to the toy and it talks back, I am going crazy LOL.

https://youtube.com/shorts/7CYHuHHzG18?si=XWxIzOl9JGFI76mc

That has been our week, I am hoping next week it will dry out a bit although we need the rain but I need some outdoors with her so she can burn off energy and not be stuck here, although I am lucky to live in a locked building with a large hallway so when we come home from walks I let her do zoomies and she is happy doing it.

How has your week been? Stay warm and dry, be safe.

Love and woofs from Nili

Angel Layla’s Gotcha Day

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But most important Happy Gotcha Day to Angel Layla.

Dear Layla,

I was so proud to be your mom, to be able to keep you healthy and happy but most important of all am so blessed to have had you in my life. You taught me so much and I was so blessed.

I am once again going to share your Gotcha Story here so that others will realize rescuing is so worth it and that is why I speak out for rescues, as like you, they all need a home with a warm bed to sleep on, and that is why I opened my home and heart to Nili.

I remember when your sister (Baby) passed away, I waited about 6 weeks and then decided my home was too empty without the pitter patter of paws, so the search was on. I ran around to all the shelters in the city but could not find a little fluffy at the time, which is what I wanted.

So, Uncle Michael introduced me to Aunt Cindy by email, told me that he would be in LA for a week so I had a week to search online for a new fur kid and he would bring her home to me.

I sat 24/7 on Petharbor and Petfinder and was nearly giving up when I saw you sitting in a cage in the Carson Shelter. Your look on your face said to me take me home. I immediately emailed Aunt Cindy with your information and photo and she went to the Shelter on Saturday to fetch you for me. I remember her calling me from there telling me she had a smelly matted mess kissing her, that sealed the deal.

You arrived on Sunday evening, the 31st of January 2011, I had got the house ready for you, bought you a new pink bed and was so excited. Yes, you were smelly and dirty, but I did not care as there are washing machines for laundry, and for me what was important was you were finally home, safe and sound with a nice warm bed.

Your dumping papers said you had been an outdoor dog; you bit when groomed and in a nutshell, everything negative a person can say and OH what a lie. You are the opposite. I am ashamed to even say what your name was.

I waited a couple of days and then met a friend of mine, a vet, Dr. Phil in the dog park, he looked at you, checked you and said I had won, and he was so right.

During your first couple of days you slept and ate, I had to teach you to climb the stairs, potty outside and am proud to say you had an accident inside. You did no damage, and I did not crate you as I do not believe in crates but as far as I remember you chewed a tissue LOL.

586734428144310

You overcame your fear of men, your fear of so many things but with love and patience we did it together and you succeeded and we did many adventures together, you riding in your backpack, went to different lakes, different events in San Francisco, and our life was full of fun.

You came a long way Layla, 13 wonderful years with me, we moved, you became one of the most happiest waggy tail dogs I know, friendly, full of love and I could not have asked for anything more.

As you grew older with me, Mom is growing older too, I could not ask for a better way to grow old but with you, you made me laugh, shower me with unconditional love, and even when you were naughty I giggle as it is so seldom. In your last years when you lost your sight, ability to walk, you still loved to be outdoors, sniffing around, riding in your stroller like a princess, nothing stopped you. Your last birthday last year is something I will never forget especially when you got into mischief finding your Uncles pocket of his jacket to search for your favorite chicken jerky but in the end unravelling the roll of poop bags all over the floor. We all had a good laugh and you wagged your tail, then went and lay down and went to sleep.

Napping at her birthday party

She loved riding in her backpack

Thank you for rescuing me Layla, Mommy is so proud of you, so blessed to have shared my bed with you and most of all, Mommy loves you very much and misses you daily.

Happy Gotcha Day Sweetheart over the Rainbow Bridge, my Lullybelle (her nickname) and I promise you are always with me in my heart, I miss you terribly and I know you would have loved Nili, thank you for sending her to me.

Hugs and lots of love Mom

I can honestly say Online Love Affairs do exist.

I have become a park fan

TGIF!!!!!!!!! Good morning, Fur friends, we hope you are all safe and staying warm.

I have become a member of the dog park; we have been going daily as the sun was out and it was really warm and although I am still tied to the bench, I am having so much fun meeting new dogs and playing. I still have a lot to learn but I am getting there and Mom is very proud of me which makes me happy.

Playing with Isloo

This week I got a new harness from MrPeanuts, a pretty pink and it fits me perfectly and is so comfortable to wear, it came with a pink leash so I cannot pull Mom anymore as it shorter than the one that I had. I am also playing less tug of war with the leashes which Mom is so relieved with as her shoulder is not hurting that much.

Do I look pretty in pink? Nili

So that has been our week, busy as always, Mom leaving me alone when she runs errands which I don’t like but love the treats when she gets home BOL as there is a price to pay for leaving me here. Mom says as soon as I learn to ride in the backpack and not eat all the junk off the street she will take me with her so that is my next lesson.

Our life is busy, but happy and I am one lucky rescued dog living the best life now and pray others have the same luck as me.

Have a wonderful long weekend,

With love and licks

Nili

His words are what I live by, Layla RIP, Nili and Me

Five months home

TGIF!!  Good morning all my friends,

It has been five months since Nili arrived home,  my life has changed in so many ways, from living with Layla R.I.P. who towards the end slept and went for rides in her stroller which I miss big time, to a new rescued pup who is young and full of energy, keeping me moving all the time.

Nili is a handful, a bundle of energy, full of quirks, loves saying hello to everyone in the street or park but I would not change it for anything. She eats well, not picky at all, takes her supplements with no problems and is one happy girl, more and more relaxed on a daily basis and a bed hog big time LOL.

So today as it is five months since she came home, I decided to share with you some of our fun times in the park, her playing and killing her toys and how she keeps me amused daily. Her new quirk is trying to take a toy with her when she goes for a walk, which is cute but I do not let her especially with the rain and mud in the park. She loves balls and fetch them with all her toys, she barks for attention or when she wants to go out and loves looking through the window and barking at everyone.

Here we go with some of my funny times with her.

I am ready with my toy to go for a walk Nili

If I lick my lips that means treats in the park, Nili

I love when she sleep like this

Which toy should I play with, Nili

On this note we would love to wish everyone a Happy New Year, may 2025 be full of health, happiness and memories and most of all please keep them safe on New Years Eve.

Love and woofs from Nili

Phew it is the weekend

TGIF!! Hello friends, the weekend has arrived, and Mom and I have been crazy busy but with lots of fun. I am sure my sister over the Rainbow Bridge is giggling as she used to do the same with her and never stopped.

Last weekend the weather was chilly but sunny, so Mom took me to our little dog park, hooked me up on my long leash and I wandered around, sniffed lots and then relaxed in the outdoors. While Mom was drinking her coffee of course this awful man sat on a bench next to us and started harassing Mom about having a dog in the park, threatened her with pepper spray if I got too close to him, and did not shut up. When he told Mom that dog owners smell like dogs Mom replied to him that a fox smells his own tail, he looked at her not understanding, so she said google it BOL. He was not impressed and I got so mad I started barking at him. So Mom packed up our things and moved to another bench, when he said goodbye, Mom replied she has not patience for toxic people and the air was cleaner at the other bench. He said nothing and we sat down again, Mom tied me to that bench for safety, got out her coffee and just relaxed. It turned out to be a perfect day for us till we decided to come home. Can you believe the audacity of that person, he must be one unhappy man and as Mom says she has no sympathy for him as he was rude to her.

Mom that man is scary, I do not like him, Nili

On Monday we decided to try out the park Mom used to go to with my sister. She has been scared going there because of my leash reaction but thought maybe if I am on a long leash I will be a lot more relaxed and guess what it worked. I had so much fun there, smelling new dogs, playing with some and wandering around. It was just what I needed never mind Mom BOL, plus I learned a lot there also. I met one or two of my sister Layla’s Uncles and they spoiled me with treats, yum, so I cannot complain I want to go there again. I actually did not want to go home BOL.

Watching everyone

On Wednesday was crazy day, very busy with lots of fun. I went to the park and then we met Uncle, and he took Mom out for lunch at her favorite place Palmyra. It is Syrian food which Mom loves, and they make a garlic sauce called Toum which Mom cannot get enough of, she smells of garlic afterwards BOL. The owner was so nice and brought me a bowl of water and I of course climbed on the booth seating and tried pinching some of Uncles food, he said NO, and I was not happy but he did spoil me with a Hanukkah present, my first, a Star of David chew toy so I had something to play with while they ate and chatted. It was really fun and we walked home through the park and both of us

Waiting for the food

Trying to get food off the table, do I look innocent ?

When we got home I got another surprise, a goody bag for Christmas with lots of treats and a new squeaky giraffe, I love him and am squeaking and playing with him also all the time. Mom explained to me it is that time of the year for giving gifts and me likes that. My toybox is overflowing and I think Mom is going to need to get me a new one BOL.

I got a goody bag woof

My Star of David new toy

Today it rained, but as soon as there was a break in the rain Mom took me to the park where I sat in a puddle, got my butt wet, and played with some dogs, Mom was very proud of me as I behaved so got some extra treats when we got home.

He even played with me it was fun

The weather is yuck and everyone has gone home

I am not sure what Mom has planned for this weekend, but she told me she is going to a Hanukkah party on Sunday and I am going to have to stay at home, it is not fair but I will be good and guard the house with lots of barking, woof.

So as you can see Mom is a very busy senior BOL and I am keeping her on her toes as much as possible to keep her young, she is also baking me treats once a week for my kong to keep me busy so I am a very lucky happy rescued fur kid. I will share recipes next week for your pups.

Have a safe wonderful weekend and week everyone, stay warm and dry

With woof and hugs from Nili
