Walking Nili in the rain

Spread the love

TGIF!! It has been raining nonstop all week, and I am sure Layla is chuckling as I fight Nili to go for walks or should I stay swimming. She does not like the rain, and she does not like raincoats, so we walk without one and we come home drenched. Nili does not  like the hairdryer either so I have to towel dry her for as long as she allows me and then I put the heater on to warm her up. (I am scared to know what my bill is going to be). Another new quirk with her is grabbing a toy on the way out so she has one in her mouth while walking, I always take them away from her before leaving as I do not want her to get them dirty.

Mom is calling me a wet rag from the rain and my walk

I have come to the conclusion that once she starts walking, she is happy as the entire street smells food and I try to avoid it all but when she manages to get something in her mouth, she is happy and I am not. But I have come to the conclusion that this little girl was a stray and used to eating off the ground so her tummy is used to it and I cannot fight her anymore and getting bit and bleeding. I know it sounds crazy and until she gets proper training (am waiting for a trainer) the walking food fight is going to carry on. One of her cute quirks when walking her is she walks up to people for pets and the rolls on her back for belly rubs, everyone just laughs and rubs her belly, it is really cute and reminds me of my dog Baby who was with me before Layla as she used to do the same. I call her the meet and greet on the street needing belly rubs. She is very stubborn, and it is either her way or no way and she will sit. Every day I am learning something new of her. Never a dull moment. I am open to all suggestions to make my life easier when walking her.

So, with the rain, and us being stuck inside, I have been keeping Nili playing with her and her squeaky toys and we are already minus 5 toys that she has totally killed, stuffing all over the house, a squeaker in pieces and she is having the time of her life, never boring.

Below is a video of her evening ritual, I sit and talk to the toy and it talks back, I am going crazy LOL.

That has been our week, I am hoping next week it will dry out a bit although we need the rain but I need some outdoors with her so she can burn off energy and not be stuck here, although I am lucky to live in a locked building with a large hallway so when we come home from walks I let her do zoomies and she is happy doing it.

How has your week been? Stay warm and dry, be safe.

Love and woofs from Nili

    • Andrea that toy is amazing and very entertaining. I found it on the internet and am looking for similar ones for her that will keep her busy. I am so happy your week has been good.

  1. Awe, Nili! No biting and making your mama bleed. She gives you the good food and toys. I wondered how wet it was there this week since we’ve been getting rain/snow/wind all week. Today is a break and then it starts back up next week. Henry doesn’t like getting wet either. He does have a raincoat that he’ll put up with in order to go potty and exercise a bit. I suspect once your trainer starts Nili will modify undesired behaviors. I bet you’re right that she was surviving on the streets. I hope the week ahead is a pawsome one! Henry says Nili needs a cookie.

    • Terri thanks so much and I always laugh when Henry orders a cookie for Nili but make sure you tell him he has to get one too. She hates the raincoat plus the rain but will walk a heaven forbid she should miss something slimy on the street to eat, I am also hoping the trainer will help me sort all this out. Stay warm and dry

  2. Dang Nili, I sure hope the dry weather shows up soon so that you can get out and about for a proper walk. Hey, no eating the food from the ground out there, it might have something harmful in it and you don’t want to get sick. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

    • Terry she like a vacuum cleaner when walking her and it needs to stop as I am afraid also. The weather is slowly warming up so we going to the dog park but even there I have to watch her carefully. Thanks as always for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop as I love reading about your cats.

  3. Oh, I love how she rolls over for people to give her belly rubs! She must so love all the attention and love after being a street survivor. Oh, Miss Nili – she sure hit the jackpot with you as her momma! I loved the video, too. I sat here giggling…I just love how much fun she was having with her (piggy?) toy!!! I’m so glad CA is getting much-needed rain, too. xo. PS – Pinning to share!

    • Dorothy She is the meet and greet on the street LOL and she is keeping me on my toes but still has a lot to learn, her piggy toy I do not think is going to last much longer as she is really chewing on it and the stuffing is falling out everywhere. The rain has been fantastic but we need some dry weather also so I can walk her a lot more plus do some dog park time for her too. Thanks for sharing as always

  4. She is keeping you on your toes for sure! LOL! For the food in the street, what worked for me was having a particularly tasty treat in my pocket and distracting the dog very quickly, getting their attention away from the street garbage food and on to the tastier treat. They soon learn that if they leave the junk in the street they get something much better. Try it but be aware that she’ll probably try to get Both if she can! Distract w/ the better treat, walking slightly away from the garbage food before you give it to her. You need to be really alert, I know she’s fast! But try it!

    • Thanks Cathy for your idea and will try it today as I need to stop it soon, it worries me as I do not want her to get sick from something. Great food for thought for me and I really appreciate it.
