September is National Disaster Preparedness Month

Good Morning, TGIF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September has arrived and with it just chaotic weather everywhere, natural disasters that has made me think about how precious life is, how important it is for us to look after the environment for the future generations and at the moment it feels as if there is one disaster after another as if there is no time to breathe in between.

So with this lets all step back and look at what is happening in this country:

  1. Hurricane Ida, the devastation is horrific, the lives lost both humans and animals, what people are having to face today and slowly get back on their feet again. Rescue Organizations running around trying to save every animal from drowning, endless hours of work which I so admire, emptying the shelters to make space for all those poor displaced animals. If only people
  2. The fires burning all over California and the loss of animal life, vegetation and it hurts me so much to see this on TV.

And then I go back to saying September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and what else will happen this month? Are we really prepared in our house for one? What do we really need? It worries me as I wonder what if I am not home when an earthquake happens. Will Layla be ok? Do any of you think of this?

I always worry that the items in my disaster bag which is next to the door is not enough.  I recheck once a month but I then say will I have time to pick up and run when an earthquake hits, and the more I think about it I think to myself maybe I should try a trial run this week. It might sound crazy but would rather be safe than sorry.

So this is emergency bag :

Water / flashlight / batteries / radio / change of clothing / food for Layla and me / her supplements / poop bags / dog treats / blanket / toy for her / first aid kit / copies of documents / cash / usb drives of all my computer files / my beach canopy that I could use as a tent and other sentimental items of mine.  It sounds a lot but I still wonder if it is enough. I also have a collapsible pet carrier to put her in so she will be feel safe plus her backpack to carry her out of the house in so she does not walk on the sidewalks in case there is debris and could get hurt.

I also say that I can live off bread and water but her food is extremely important.

So when all these disasters hit us, and however much we are prepared we all lose material items which for me is as I say, something that can be replaced, but the lives of the animals and birds cannot so it is so important to do as much as possible to protect them.

On this note I am asking everyone to be safe, prayers going out to those that were hit by the hurricane and most of all a big thank you  to all those that step up and help those that need the help, you are all angels.

Most important our pets are family and should not be left behind to fend for themselves as you are serving them a death sentence.

Have a great safe week,

WIth a woof and love from Layla

National Pet Preparedness Month

Friday has arrived phew and it has been a busy week in the Layla Neighborhood. Mom says she is tired but I do not care cos the weather is nice and I want to go for walks so guess what! I am making Mom walk me like 5 times a day BOL. It is good for her.

Yesterday we had a doxie named Shoyu stay with us, I was not happy sharing Mom with another dog but as Mom said I am still number one. Actually I cannot complain as Shoyu was really good and relaxed which was awesome.

June 15th San Francisco is finally opening, no masks either unless you have not been vaccinated which I am really excited about especially as that means more adventures in the future and I know Mom is planning them as she has been talking to Aunt Alice about some. Cannot wait to see what is planned.

On Sunday Mom took me to the Chihuahua meet up in Stern Grove. We love that park as it is so big, with lots of trees and the lake but because there were so many Coyote warnings we stuck to where all the people were, Mom explained to me to be rather safe than sorry.

We used my new back pack to get there, this one is so so pawsome and you know why! It is because it is expandable so when on the ground Mom can open it up and it turns into a dog bed where I could sleep when the Chihuahuas were yapping too much. It is so comfortable to sit in, get in plus I can watch the world go by from the top. Mom does not have to clip me in as I do not jump out but it has one for those that need it.

It is so airy, with mesh on all sides so I do not get hot, to get in is easy as it opens at the side and in a nutshell the best of the best for Mom to carry me in, as she says it is light so it is not hard on her back or shoulders. It has a strap to go around Moms belly also.

You can read more about them on the link below:

I received this back pack to review from the company.

Now before I forgot June is National Pet Preparedness Month, are you prepared?

This is very important as with what is happening in the world today, earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, floods and so much more we need to be prepared.

I have an emergency bag in my closet with food for me and Layla, boxes of water, a sleeping bag, flashlights and batteries, a radio, first aid kits for both of us, toys for Layla, medications, emergency phone numbers, poop bags plus so much more.

The plus with this new back pack also is I can put Layla in it, get out of the house to a safe place and then open it up so she can lie down safely without me taking her out of it, which will make life so much easier and I will be more relaxed.

What is in your emergency bag?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and please be safe

With a woof and love from

Layla

National Disaster Preparedness Month plus Give Away

TGIF !!!!!!!

Good morning all my friends and how are you all doing ?

Over here in the Layla neighborhood we are still indoors most of the time because of the smoke in the air and I told Mom it is getting boring BOL.

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month for everyone and although it is in June for pets I personally think doing it twice a year reminds us to make sure we are prepared.

This is such an important month as with what is happening all over the world we need to be prepared especially for our fur babies as they depend on us in every way to keep them safe.

We always remind everyone to check their emergency bags, make sure they are up to date and nothing has expired, check our pets microchips, documentation and that the bag is ready to be picked up and we can go.

While I was checking our bag I started thinking about things I felt were missing for Layla so we decided to do a review on some new products by Tropiclean to add to our bag.

I am always looking for natural products, no chemicals where possible and these are really amazing and happy to share with you all. I am going to confess that Layla is a Tropiclean dog LOL as I use most of their products on her as they are safe, and with her allergies work really well.

01. Flea and Tick Spot on Treatment, Layla is a roller in the park, nothing like rolling on the lawn and I always worry about fleas and hate all the chemical flea products on the market so I tried their flea and tick spot treatment which is made from Cedarwood oil, Peppermint oil and Almond Oil. Since I put it on her I have not seen any fleas and she is not scratching, phew.

I also want to add that they have flea and tick prevention products for your house and yard.

02. Oxymed Soothing Pet Wipes, love these as they are easy to put in my purse or have in my emergency bag and they help with itching and hot spots. They are made with purified water, glycerol, mild coconut cleanser, oatmeal extract and fragrance.

03. Waterless Dog Shampoo, it is deep cleansing and no rinse formula. It smells of Berry and Coconut so Madam smells very fruity.  The ingredients are purified water, mild cleanser, hydrolyzed plant protein, organic blend of while plum extract, cucumber extract, avena sativa oatmeal.  It also does not affect spot on flea and tick treatment either. This is a great product to have in my emergency bag as it does not need water and for those that go camping I feel it is a must also.

04. Tangle Remover, this is important to have for those dogs that get matted. It is a no rinse formula and for Madam who hates water this is just perfect.  Like the waterless dog shampoo it does not affect spot on flea or tick treatment. The ingredients are Purified water, hydrolyzed plant protein, organic blend of chamomile extract, kiwi extract, mallow extract, awapuhi extract, proprietary cationic emulsion, fragrance and vitamin E. Another one I will be putting in my emergency bag.

What I love about the Tropiclean products are they all made in the USA and are cruelty free. Plus for all cat parents they have fantastic cat products too.

I have been sponsored by Tropiclean and this Give Away is open for participants over the age of 18 and in the USA only.
