2023 is over WOW

Good morning,

The weekend has arrived but guess what, it is the end of the year also. 2023 has gone so fast it is scary and 2024 is a few days away. WOW.

This past week it has been cold and rainy so we have stayed indoors dry and playing with snuffle ball and napping, it can be boring for me but Mom does not want me to get sick, so she is very firm with her plans when it rains. I do not like the rain so in a way I enjoy being home although I do have the stroller with a cover to keep me dry but Mom gets wet and she is not happy BOL.

I lucked out Mom spilled my treats so am vacuuming with my tongue

New Years eve is a nightmare for so many of my fur friends because of those horrible noisy fireworks, in my younger days Mom would make me a bed in the shower with my water and favorite toys so I would not hear them plus she played the Jaz station all night long but now I am old I do not hear them that much which has made Moms life a lot less stressful and easy. She never leaves me alone, so I feel very safe and secure.

Please keep all of us safe and it can be very scary to be outdoors with all bangs going off plus as I woofed to Mom I feel very sorry for the wild animals and birds that suffer from it all. Do you agree with me?

Did you know that January is overflowing with pets because people have dumped their pets for selfish reasons, they do not think that pets are part of family and should live all their lives with them. Layla was dumped in January and I rescued her on the 31st of January, a total matted mess but I lucked out with the most beautiful little girl in the world and her ex family lost out.

I must now go to sleep as an old girl needs her beauty sleep, Happy New Year Everyone, may 2024 bring peace, love, health and happiness to everyone,

With a woof and love from

Layla

Are you prepared ?

TGIF!!! Phew weekend has arrived and thank goodness the weather here is cooling down, San Francisco has had such a heatwave I thought we would melt, global warming is slowly starting to happen here and all over the world. Are we all prepared for these changes?

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and what else will happen this month? Are we really prepared in our house for one? What do we really need? It worries me as I wonder what if I am not home when an earthquake happens. Will Layla be, ok? Do any of you think of this?

I recheck once a month our emergency bag but I then say will I have time to pick it up and run when an earthquake hits, is too heavy, have I overpacked, it might sound crazy but would rather be safe than sorry.

So this is emergency bag :

Water / flashlight / batteries / radio / change of clothing / food for Layla and me / her supplements and medications / poop bags / dog treats / blanket / toy for her / first aid kit / copies of documents / cash / usb drives of all my computer files / my beach canopy that I could use as a tent and other sentimental items of mine.  It sounds a lot, but I still wonder if it is enough. I also have a collapsible pet carrier to put her in so she will feel safe plus her backpack to carry her out of the house (although with her age she is not comfortable in it) but it is safe, and she does not walk on the sidewalks in case there is debris and could get hurt.

I also say that I can live off bread and water, but her food is extremely important.

So, when all these disasters hit us, and however much we are prepared we all lose material items which for me is as I say, something that can be replaced, but the lives of the animals and birds cannot so it is so important to do as much as possible to protect them.

On this note I am asking everyone to be safe and check your bags.

Most important our pets are family and should not be left behind to fend for themselves as you are serving them a death sentence.

Have a great safe week,

With a woof and love from Layla

Keeping Layla Healthy

TGIF !  Good morning all my friends, the weekend has arrived, and Mom is relieved as she says she is exhaustipated. That is her new favorite word and I think it is silly, but if it makes Mom happy, I suppose I should allow it although it is my blog.

Today is a very important day, it is National Rescue Dog Day which brings with it a promise of love, friendship, and kindness. Each year, millions of animals, specifically dogs, are abandoned by their owners and end up on the streets. They are family and should not be dumped like I was but am blessed to have a loving home with Mom.

So, with aging and being a rescue Mom is doing everything to keep me healthy and she is now working on my teeth again, although they are good she wants them double good so she is making my life miserable with cleaning them more often. Mom used to do it at nights only but now she does it in the mornings also, grrrrrrrrrrrr I hate the teeth stuff but if it makes my breath smell good so I can give her lots of licks I suppose I should allow it.

We are using Tropiclean, which Mom has been using for years including their shampoo which smells fruity but if Mom swears their products are good how can I argue with her. She is such a Jewish Mom, or should I say a Yiddishe Mama.

The products Mom is using on my teeth is the Wellness Collection Water Additive and Teeth Gel. Mom got the kit with the toothbrushes but I fought her so she is putting the gel directly into my mouth and I must admit its nice having a clean smelling breath.

There are four different water additives, one with Digestive Support, one which is Dental Health Only, One with Hip and Joint Support and one with Skin Health.

The Water Additive Ingredients per ½ capful (5ml): Cetylpyridinium Chloride (4mg), Green Tea Extract (0.6mg), Zinc Gluconate (0.5mg) Inactive Ingredients: Citric Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Benzoate, Water.

The kit comes with a triplex brush for deeper clean plus the gel. The ingredients are Water, Naturally Derived Alcohol, Glycerin, Mild Cleanser, Carbomer, Sodium Hexametaphosphate (Natural Mineral), Spearmint, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Zinc Chloride (.01g/10ml). They have kits for both small/medium or large dogs.

Since using them I have noticed a difference in Layla’s breath and her teeth seem whiter also, the little bit of plaque on them is slowly disappearing.

So, we decided that because the products are awesome and working, we should share with our friends also and do a giveaway so that one lucky winner can get to use them also.

We were sponsored by Tropiclean and they are offering the giveaway of the Dental Kit and Water Additive Dental Health to the USA and Canada but you must be over 18 years old.

Good Luck Everyone

My work is done for the week I am going to do what I am the best at doing, napping.

Have a wonderful weekend, with love from Layla

The Mischief Maker Senior in my house

The weekend has arrived, phew I need it. Layla is full of piss and vinegar as always and I am exhausted.

Living with Layla is never boring, she is a funny little girl that keeps me amused all the time plus for her age she is so full of energy it is exhausting so I decided to share with you this week her quirks, some are new with age.

She loves to walk, once outside we could walk the whole of San Francisco if she had her own way, and we are talking about 4 walks a day, I on the other hand drinks cold coffee in the morning because of her, cold dinners as she times her wanting to walk when I sit down to eat, and her newest quirk now is barking.

She wakes up in the morning and if I do not get ready as she is awake she stands and barks at me ordering me to get moving, and if I take my time she lets me know. We are talking about 7 in the morning and I rush as I do not want her to wake up the neighbors so by the time I get home my coffee has become cold brew.

In the evenings she watches me make dinner, as soon as it’s nearly ready barky starts wanting to go out and bang goes my warm dinner as I take her out to keep her quiet.

Now before you all jump to any conclusions, Layla goes out 4 times a day if not more as I take her shopping with me, so she has ample time to do her business, sniff every leaf on the ground, wag her tail at every dog we pass plus so much more. She is the Boss of the house and I am the slave.

My final laugh over her goes to what she did this week, late afternoon. I live in a building with lots of dogs, it is a secured building so no one can get in or out with unlocking gates. I went to the garbage room to throw out the garbage that is one place I will not take her as I never know what is on the ground there. I came back inside, started preparing dinner when there was a knock on my door. I was surprised she did not bark but did not make a big deal of it till my neighbor outside tells me Layla is sitting on my door mat next to my door. I opened the door and Madam sashayed in wagging her tail thinking she was so smart. I was angry but just laughed so much over it, she is such Velcro should won’t go far without me.

While I am typing this the Boss is now telling me she wants to go under the bed so will I move the covers up for her so she can have her afternoon nap.

Having shared this with you, and I am chuckling at the same time, I can say I would not change any of it for anything in this world. Growing old with a rescued senior dog is quite an adventure and I am so blessed to have her in my life through the good and bad days.

We are family !!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone, be safe and treasure your memories with you pets

A week of my life

TGIF !!!!!!!!

Wow it is Friday and we have had a busy week. Things are finally opening in San Francisco plus the trams are now going so we can get out and about a bit more, I am really excited and so is Mom.

On Saturday I got punished and went to the groomers. Mom pulled the wool over my eyes and took me for a long walk bribing me with treats till we got to the groomers, about 7 blocks from our house. She then had the chutzpah (audacity) to leave me there with the groomer for a couple of hours. He cut my hair short, all the hair from my face which Mom wanted because of my allergies, and he trimmed my tail, Mom not so happy about that one. He did my nails and in a nutshell I had a spa morning which I hate and was happy to see her when she picked me up about two hours later.

Because the trams have started Mom decided to take the tram home, it was the first tram on that line running in over a year so it was extra special. I loved it and got lots of pets from some of the passengers.

We got home and I decided to take revenge on Mom, BOL, every hour or so I decided I wanted to go out and pee so Mom must have walked me maybe ten times on Saturday, I  loved that revenge BOL.

Sunday we relaxed and then Mom had to go to the supermarket so she took me with her, I got lots of compliments from people on how cute I looked and Mom did her shopping. Yes I got some treats also.

The rest of week has been busy doing things and Mom has been caught once again with giving me my pills, so am on pill strike here and she is not happy, so she has now bought hotdogs to give the pill to me with it, hmmm wonder how long that will last. See the video below to see what I have been doing to her, I am so smart.

https://youtu.be/Oazj5k7h27s

Today, Mom took me with her on the tram and she went to her favorite grocery store to get a few things and then on the way home we walked through the park so I saw all my friends. It was fun being petted and spoiled by all of them.

National Rescue Dog Day falls on May 20th every year and is a day that was created to encourage people to adopt a dog from their local pet shelter. Every year, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter animal shelters nationwide and are in dire need of being adopted.

It is a very important day especially as I am rescued and need to speak out for all my friends that are in shelters they need homes and love and family which I have been blessed with so let us all go to the Shelter to adopt a dog BUT remember we are for life.

So now I am going to relax and looking forward to the weekend, have a great weekend everyone

With woof and love from Layla

February reminders

Hello Fur friends,

February arrived, we are already into the 5th day and Mom has decided to change our blog day to Wednesdays instead of Thursdays. You might want to know why but she explained that when we started the blog it was our Wednesday Woof and with a new year, new decade we are going to start it again.

My gotcha day was awesome, I was spoiled the whole weekend and now life is back to normal, or as I should ask, what is normal ? Phew the sun was shining so we managed to even spend some time in the park which means lots of treats from all my Uncles and on the way home met a cat going for a walk – oy vey they scare me.

With February comes a lot of Pet Observances which we should remember to keep our pets healthy and happy and am going to list some below :

01. February is Pet Dental Month, ewww I hate the taste of the dental products but as Mom says it is very important to keep my teeth pearly white and healthy, so another thing to suffer about BOL.

02. February is known as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month or Beat the Heat Month. This is very very important to prevent an explosion in kittens and puppies we should all spay or neuter our pets. There are so many pets being dumped / euthanized or strays because of those that do not do this and we need to draw more attention to this problem to prevent it.

03. February is also Unchain Your Dog  Month – No dog should have to live on a chain outdoors, if you have a dog they should be indoors with you off a chain as all dogs are part of your family. If you cannot do that then do not have one as you are abusing your poor dog.

04. February is also Responsible Pet Owner Month. This one is so important as like all the above if you welcome a pet into your family you should take the responsibility of caring for your pet as family like you would do with your children.

Below are some tips on how to take responsibility for your pets so that they are healthy and happy :

So with all the above mentioned please keep your pets safe, happy and most of all healthy and if you cannot then please do not get a pet, it is as simple as that.

Have a great week,  With woof and love from Layla
