Happy Holidays Everyone, this is my first holiday without Layla, she is sorely missed but I know she is at peace today. Nili is part of my life today but I think of her daily especially with the Holidays here.
Next week we celebrate Hanukkah and this year it falls on the same day as Christmas. For Nili it will be her first with me and I plan to make it very special. She already got her Christmas presents and her Hanukkah present she will get on Hanukkah. We celebrate Hanukkah for eight days so I am going to do the way I did with Layla, give her something new or extra yum every day. For those of you that do not know Hanukkah is the festival of lights and we light a candle each night till our Hanukiah has all 8 candles lit. Β The story about Hanukkah in short is that the Maccabees found oil for one day, but it lasted for eight days and that is why we light the eight candles.
Nili killed her Hanukkiah BOL
Another tradition is to eat oily food, so we eat Sufganiyot (Hebrew for Jelly Donuts) and latkes (potato pancakes) so I am going to share with you the latke recipe I used to make for Layla but I have adapted it this year using oat flour instead of regular flour. See the recipe below, they are very healthy and I bake them as it so much healthier thank frying for the dog.
I have another Hanukkah party today which I am looking forward to, am going to get fat LOL the rate this is going as I over ate at the one I went to last Sunday and am sure am going to do it again today, oy vey I need to go back on diet.
We must not forget Christmas
With all the happiness going on we must not forget the pets in shelters as they deserve the love and warm home our lucky pets. January is one of the worst months in shelters as they will be overflowing with pets that have been dumped for a new puppy or have got lost. I am once again saying those that dump their pets should be blacklisted so they cannot have another pet.
On this note I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays, please be safe and remember not to drink and drive as your fur kids are waiting at home for you.
With love, licks and woofs
From Nili xxx
How exciting for Nili to spend these two holidays with you for the first time. I can’t imagine how spoiled she’s going to be. Thanks for the recipe, Jack loved it, and the reminders of potential dangers even during such happy occasions. Enjoy the party and don’t hold back…you can never eat too many jelly donuts or latkes! Chanukah happens to be my favourite holiday. This year I’m celebrating with my foster dog Gunther, but unfortunately no latkes for him.
Hindy I am really excited for her and she has been spoiled rotten LOL, I am going to make her some latkes this week with a mix of veggies so that they are healthy also, as for me and the latkes and donuts, yumm my favorites and I think I have put on weight from eating them so diet is going to happen LOL. I am so sorry Gunther cannot have the latkes but am sure he will be spoiled, Happy Hanukkah with big hugs from Nili and Me xxxx
Such a fun post and Nili, you are such a sweet Music Critic! Happy Hanukkah from all of us and thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Terri thankis so much and we need fun in our lives π Nili is a music critic and up till now has killed all toys with music LOL, Thanks so much for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop and Happy Holidays to all of you too with a woof from Nili
Great post. I have never seen the warnings of Hanukkah foods. Have a wonderful eight nights. XO
Ellen thank you and I have learned so much since blogging and love sharing so others will know too. Happy Hanukkah and have a wonderful time xx
Happy Hannukkah! I love the way you include your pup in the celebrations. We do it too! I want to try the doggy latke recipe soon. Love seasonal/holiday themed dog treats π
Thank you Tiffany and I agree they are family so should be included in all family holidays. the doggy latkes are easy to make plus healthy and this year am going to mix some veggies instead of sweet potato only. Happy Hanukkah π
Excellent post! I haven’t had a jelly donut in years and now you have me thinking of one. My mouth is watering. That looks like a terrific latkes recipe for pups. I’m going to have to try it for Henry. I love that you included the hazards of the holiday. Great job! The video of Nili is adorable. She is full of personality. I know Layla is watching over both of you. I still have to remind myself Layla has crossed over. It still seems unreal, so I know it is for you. I hope you and sweet Nili have a beautiful and most Happy Hannukkah! Sending love and pets your way from me and Henry.
Terri Jelly donuts are y weakness LOL so I make sure I only eat them at Hanukkah or would look like one. The latke recipe is so easy and yum for the dogs plus so healthy I am sure Henry will love them. You can add other veggies to the latkes also if you want to. I miss Layla especially at this time of the year as we did all the Christmas celebrations together so did not do any but hopefully next year will be able to do them with Nili. I loved that video of Nili as she is quite a character and keeps me amused LOL. Happy Holidays with big hugs to you and Henry with love from us xxx
Thank you for your list of poisonous Christmas dangers for dogs. People have no idea sometimes, it is scary so I will share this LOT! I hope you have sage and good Christmas season!
Marjorie we need to remind people so we can help them prevent accident, thank you for sharing and your compliment, Merry Christmas
Happy Hanukkah. It is so nice you have so many friends. have fun
Happy Hanukkah to you too and I am very blessed, I have had a fun Hanukkah. Big hugs and stay warm
Oh, Miss Nili is so cute and I loved hearing her sweet little bark with her Hanukkah candle toy (first time I’ve seen one of those, how cool!). I wish you both a very Happy and Healthy Hanukkah!
Happy Hanukkah! Oh, Nili is going to be so spoiled this holiday. I know how difficult it is not to have our angel furbabies with us for holidays anymore. I have a heart shaped ornament with Phoebe’s photo in it so I can still include her in our Christmas.
Thank you Cathy and yes she is being spoiled rotten, oy vey, it is hard without Layla but I try to look at the bright side that Nili is with me so I am not alone and Layla is smiling from above. I wear a pin with a photo of Layla on all the time so she is always with me and I love that you have you a heart shaped ornament with Phoebes photo on, she was such a beautiful girl.
