Woof hello Everyone,
This is Nili here telling Mom what to write as I am carrying on my sisters Laylas Legacy.
September is National Disaster Preparedness Month; it is very important as we must be prepared for any type of Disaster especially with climate change happening all over the world and not knowing what can happen.
Because we live in San Francisco where earthquakes happen, we have a bag ready for emergencies with everything Mom can think of so that we do not have that worry if we must run out of the house. Since I have come to live with Mom, and having been a stray in my past life, Mom has added to the list a carrier for me so she can put me in it and not have to worry about me trying to run away or hurt myself walking on the debris in the streets. The plus with this carrier is that expands so that I will have room to stretch out plus Mom can put a water bowl or food in it. She would keep it closed for carrying but once in a safe place she would expand the sides and front. It also has a strap in it so she can strap me in, and I cannot run. It would give her peace of mind. Thank you Mr. Peanuts for this amazing carrier, you can see their fantastic products on their website :

The bag I have to carry Nili, it expands so when on the ground I can open it up on all sides so it is bigger and more comfortable

I am practising to stay in the bag for an emergency, Nili, when I carry it the sides are folded in and it looks like a normal pet carrier
This is what is in our bag which Mom has and it on wheels so it is easier for her to pull as it is heavy: Boxes of Water, Food for both of us, Treats, Flashlights with batteries, sleeping bag for Mom, toys for me of course, Leash and harness with ID tags on, and BOL some coffee for Mom, and most important a first aid kit for both of us. We also have a wallet with cash in just in case ATMs are not working so I feel Mom has covered everything. If you think she has forgotten something, please tell Mom so she can add it to our bag. I also keep my phone charged so that it will be charged if I must grab it and go out. Most important and was reminded all vet documents and of course your personal documents also (copies are also great)

Layla and I shopping for items for our disaster bag
We are discussing this subject this week as Mom says it is very important to be prepared for all so that we can be safe as we are family, the furkids of the family although I am the only kid here.
Have a wonderful weekend, be safe
With hugs and love from Nili
Where i grew up it was an earthqake/tsuanmi zone. We were recomended to have a hand crank/or battery radio too in our emergency kits. And a whistle! ( i might even consider a whistle for Nili too.)
VIctoria what a clever idea having a whistle, I am going to get one this week for definite. I have a battery radio thank goodness. Please be safe and have a wonderful weekend, Nili and Me
Excellent post. Very important to be prepared for anything.
Thank you Ellen and that is why I remind every year so we are prepared.
Your mama is very wise! An emergency contacts list plus both of your medical histories and your proof of rabies vaccination might come in handy, too.
Thank you for reminding me to add it on the blog as I do have all in my bag, but its important everyone remembers
I love that bag!! It’s look a lot like the Sherpa bag I used to use on the plane for my dogs and cats, but I’ve never seen one with an expandable side panel, genius idea. While we don’t have emergency weather issues where I live, being prepared for all sorts of eventualities is the smart thing to do, and your suggestions help!
Thanks Hindy, I love that bag also as she would be comfortable in it once on the ground plus it can be used for flying too. You are lucky you do not have emergency weather issues but being prepared for any disaster is so important and I am happy my suggestions gave you some ideas.
September is a good time to remind everyone to have an Emergency Go bag not only for themselves but for the furbabies too! I love that carrier with the expansion, very cool!
Hi Cathy thanks so much for agreeing with me it is so important to be ready all year round but especially in September before winter. That pet carrier is awesome and what I love is that Nili will be comfy in it.
Super info! It really is critical to have a grab bag for your furry buddy. When you don’t need it, that’s the best time to put it together. I like the idea of rotating out the items in the bag to keep it fresh, and then that gives you a chance to check on batteries. I LOVE your bag for Nili. I’ll have to look into one like it for Henry.
I live in wildfire area. Well, we do get earthquakes here as well. I’m not a fan of either. When I was a child, my house burned down at Christmas. There was only one fire station in town at the time. There was black ice, and the engine nearly flipped over en route. The fire was so hot that the glass melted. So, once things had settled, Mom took us kids and canvassed the town to petition for another fire station. She was successful. But this goes to show that a disaster doesn’t happen when it’s convenient or wait for you to pack it bag. So, it’s best to be prepared.
I’m sharing with all my dog and pet parents. Pets and cookies to Nili from Henry.
Terri thanks for your compliment, it is so important to be ready for any crisis as such. I am sorry about your house as a child, that must have been traumatic for all of you and what an amazing Mom you have for getting another fire station in your town, WOW. That bag is amazing and a must have for all pets as it is light weight and comfy and being expandable once on the ground in safety you can open it up and our pets are comfy. Thank you for sharing as everyone should be prepared.
Big hugs, pets and cookies for Mr. Henry xxx
Such an important post. I love that carrier! How helpful that it pulls out and is on wheels. I always had a big “go” bag for my FiveSibes, too. And a ramp, in case I needed it for Gibson who had epilepsy and weight almost 100 lbs and would have hind end issues due to his meds. Since I couldn’t carry them in a carrier, I had airline crates and seat belts in my SUV for them. I am so thankful we never experienced a disaster that required us leaving our home. Be safe! Great tips…and hugs to Miss Nili. xo
Dorothy I love the carrier also and it fits on the handle of the emergency bag which is on wheels so we are good to go, you were such an incredible Husky Mom and they were so blessed to have had you. I hope I do not have to use mine either but its always good to be prepared. Big hugs to you from Nili and have a wonderful weekend
