When Spring arrives, Easter arrives, and everyone is hopping for chocolates plus some parents are busy buying bunnies for their kids. This is a sore subject for me as so many bunnies, like other pets, are bought for a holiday and then dumped in a shelter or as some do which is so stupid is let them loose in the fields where they cannot survive. So if you want a bunny for your child get them a toy, one that does not need care and will not be thrown out when your child is bored with it. Bunnies, like so many pets are family, and you do not want to be dumped by a family member then please do not do the same to your bunny.
Easter can also be hazardous to your pets; I am listing below the hazards to keep your pets safe especially when it comes to chocolate or candies with Xylitol.
Happy Easter to everyone, we hope you have a wonderful fun weekend with your family, please be safe and most important don’t OD on chocolates, BOL

Happy Easter Everyone from Angel Layla
With a woof and love from Nili
PS Mom put the bunny ears on me and I broke them BOL so no pic of me this week on our blog, I am on strike cos I cannot have any chocolate.
I agree totally sweet Nili, those poor bunnies deserve better. I hope you and your Mom have a fabulous weekend. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Terry it upsets me what people do without thinking as they think its cute and the bunnies pay the price. We hope you had a wonderful weekend also and thank you as always for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.
I did a post years ago about how dangerous lilies can be. Some people genuinely seemed shocked so I am glad you spoke up about it. Thank you!
Marjorie it is my pleasure and we need to be remined each time as there are new pet parents that might not know also
Pets really shouldn’t be given as holiday gifts. Easter bunnies/chicks, Christmas puppies, birthday kittens–pets are something that need to be planned on and everyone in the family agrees.
Andrea I so agree with you and that is why I speak out also is to make people aware that pets are family and not to be dumped, I am so against giving pets as gifts without the family agreeing to a life long life with that pet
Hi Nili … we missed visiting earlier, so happy “after bunny hop day” (and we so agree with your Mom about those frivolous adoptions, goes for baby chicks, too). It’s nice to see you, you’re looking more grown up now than we last visited … so gentle nose taps and hugs and hello’s to your wonderful Mom, from Ann & June at Zoolatry.
Hi Hi Anne and June, It is so good to see you and we are always happy when you visit. Thank you for agreeing with us about this sore point, Yes I am getting bigger and becoming more of an adult dog every day and loving life with Mom, I am very blessed. Big hugs and gentle nose taps to both you and June at Zoolatry and have a wonderful seek x
I’m with you on the bunnies! It’s so shameful that folks do this to these poor, innocent creatures. I’d like to think they don’t know better, but I tend to lean toward they don’t care. Beyond shameful! Great post! I’m sorry Nili broke her bunny ears and went on strike. Henry would probably do the same. Henry says his buddy, Nili, needs a cookie regardless of striking. I’m sharing this important article with all my pet parents.
Terri, It breaks my heart how heartless people can be when it comes to animals, their ignorance is just ridiculous especially if you have kids. Thank you for agreeing with me an next year LOL Nili will have new bunny ears. Thank you Henry for reminding me to give Nili a cookie, thanks for sharing
I so agree! Why do people give pets for holiday gifts? I’ll never understand. Unless the recipient is open to it and expects the pet, I say no! Too many pets wind up dumped afterwards.
A long time ago a family member gave my then-toddler daughter a bunny for Easter. I was like, why did you ask us??? Of course we kept the bunny and loved it and cared for it, but it’s never a good idea unless the recipients know the pet is coming.
Pinning this to share!
Dorothy like you I will never understand why people do it without discussing with the parents first and it is the pets that pay the price in the end.
Family and friends think they are doing a good deed as such as they know kids want them but they do not think of the long term and life of the bunny. Your daughter was one of the lucky ones that kept the bunny but to surprise someone with one and then the family is stuck with it without knowledge or know how is something I cannot understand.
It’s so important to keep chocolate and toxic Easter plants away from pets! It’s easy to forget in the excitement of the holiday and the company that arrives w/ it. I’m glad you mentioned the bunny issue, same thing w/ baby chicks! People can be so foolish, buying someone else’s child a bunny or chicks! I hate that. I’m sharing this to my Pinterest Holiday & Events board – sorry I’m so late in doing so, as Easter has passed. But it will stay on my Pinterest board year after year. Thanks!
Cathy I so agree with you it makes me so angry that people do that as it is the animals are the ones to suffer in the end. Thank you so much for sharing as we need to bring awareness to people about this problem.
