What a week, I need a break from all. Last Saturday we were without power for over 12 hours and trying to keep a pup busy in the dark is not easy, I was exhausted by the time the power came back on, then the storms this week have been a nightmare and Nili has not been settling down at night because of the heavy rain and winds, Tuesday was really bad. I tried to go to the park when the rain stopped but each time we got there it started all over again so we have been cooped up inside most of the time. My energizer bunny is overloaded with energy, and I am exhausted from doing short walks with her to burn off the energy. She is playing with her toy, or should I say killing the squeakers, but she needs more stimulation than that. I live in a studio so there is not that much place for her to run so when possible I open the door and let her run and chase her toys in the hallway. It is a locked building so she cannot get out into the street phew.

Sleeping like a baby after a CBS treat
New Years Eve is around the corner. The pet’s nightmare as I call it as so many are afraid of the stupid fireworks and that means pets getting lost.

I have made sure Nilis’ microchip and tags are all updated with emergency numbers, so we are prepared for the nightmare plus stocked up on CBD treats to keep her calm. I wish they had it for me also LOL. I got CBD treats, chewable from https://treatibles.com/ a company I had used with Layla and they are really keeping her calm plus she thinks she is getting a treat LOL and has made her stormy nights calmer and she is sleeping well plus she has also become afraid to go out all of a sudden, she sees the harness and hides, so giving her a half in the morning relaxes her and has made it easier to get her out of the house, once out she is fine.
This has totally confused me and I am working on this issue, am always open to ideas and input if you have some for me.
New Years Eve, one of the nights I hate when everyone gets drunk and sets off fireworks everywhere that it is scary. My heart goes out to all the animals that are in shelters shivering already from fear, and then have to endure the fear of fireworks with no one around to comfort them. I wish we could just empty those shelters and all animals would have loving homes.
How do you keep your pet safe during fireworks? This is my second New Year with Nili and hopefully she will be ok, I do not go out so I will be with her the whole night.
Unfortunately, we always must remind everyone of safety tips for their pets:

And most of all everyone please remember this when out partying:

So, on this note we want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, may 2026 be a good year for all of us with lots of love, laughter, health and happiness and most of all Peace on Earth.
Woof with love from
Nili
Happy New Year! We’re not big on celebrating that. It’s a great reason to party. But if you’re not a party animal, it’s just so arbitrary.
I used to get excited about the “new start” but everything stays the same. And the worst thing one can do is to make resolutions :p
Jana I so agree with you and do not believe in resolutions LOL. I do not celebrate either but just watch TV.
I LOVE the New Year’s photo of Nili. I’m glad the CBD is helping her stay calm. I’ve never had much luck with CBD for calming. But it’s great for pain. So, I always keep some CBD cookies on hand in case Henry’s eye acts up, or something else happens. Honestly, the tricks that have worked for Henry the last few years with fireworks are to give him a Real Mushroom calm treat (thanks again for pointing me in that direction), turning on his heartbeat toy, putting his crate near me, and covering it. He hasn’t even flinched with the booms. Me on the other hand jumps with each one. I’m still hoping that one day in the near future, drone shows will replace fireworks. Here’s to a calm week with electricity and not so much rain. Henry says Nili needs a cookie.
Terri I hate the fireworks also and wish they would ban them completely, I also jump each time there is one and hoping Nili will be ok too. I am so happy Henry loves the Relax Chews and they help him. I need to look into the heartbeat toys for Nili and maybe invest in one to calm her more. Nili woofs Henry deserves a cookie and Happy New Year from us xxx
A very Happy New Year to you and Nili! I wonder if she’s become fearful of going out because something happened the last time. Was it during thunder or very heavy rains? Glad to hear the CBD is helping, because it sure sounds like she’s a bundle of energy. I used to do the same with my cats in the hallway of my building. They were able to have a change of scenery and one of them literally used to bang on my neighbour’s door to be let in…and she was. Glad you included more pet safety tips because that’s something we can never talk about enough.
Hindy Happy New Year to you too, and thanks for your input about her fear as it something I am trying to resolve. The CBD is working wonders with her but I do not want her to be on them all her life also unless necessary. I am sure they helped your cats too which is great to hear. I am always happy to share the safety tips as we need to be safe and not sorry as the animals suffer in the end.
Happy New Year from all of us. I heard y’all were having bad storms and I hope they go away soon. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Terry I hope you have a wonderful 2026 and thank you as always thank you for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am hoping the storms go away also soon as I have had enough of them and Nili is fed up LOL.
It would be nice of all the “fireworks people” could set up a secluded place near them and have a good time, leaving the rest of us out of it.
I pray you have a relatively quiet New Year’s Eve and a blessed and beautiful 2026.
What a great idea and I only wish it would happen as even the wild animals suffer from them.
Thank you for your prayers and I am pray you have the same
There is an element of people who don’t care as long as THEY are happy. They are the first to whine about their perceived ‘rights’ and tread on others but you can’t speak up against them. Fireworks are not fun, but the idiots will be out in force around where we live for about 1015 minutes of ‘excitement’ then it’s all over.
Marjorie I so agree with you and I call those people selfish. They do not think of people with PTSD, wildlife or anything else and that is why I have no sympathy for them when they hurt themselves or damage their property.
Please keep you and your cats safe and my 2026 be a good year for all of us
Poor Nili! Last night we had to deal with strong winds AND fireworks on NYE. We stayed home with the dogs and watched TV instead of facing a snowstorm and drunk drivers. Hope the weather clears up for you too so you can get back outside!
