The fireworks are coming keep us safe please

Spread the love

Dressed up ready to party

Its Friday, the beginning of a long weekend and that means the fireworks are coming. Actually people have been letting them off for weeks now and I personally am sick of it all.

In a nutshell a waste of money which could be used on better things like donations to non profits, helping the homeless, helping shelters and so much more. I actually do not even want to go into this subject too much as my blood pressure goes through the roof.

So many pets get lost on 4th of July thanks to stupid owners who do not care for their pets by keeping them safe.

How to keep pet safe on 4th of July :

Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them – these can be poison and make us very sick, death can also be possible

Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals, this can also poison us.

Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach – these can also make us sick

Keep your pets on their normal diet.  This is important as a change of diet with all the stress from fireworks etc can cause indigestion and diarrhea

Never use fireworks around pets – these can cause severe burns, trauma to the face plus they contain toxic materials.

Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets – leave your pets at home in a safe quiet spot, why traumatize them in this situation which is just being selfish and uncaring.

Be prepared in the event that your pet does escape – make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an updated tag, microchip is updated and BEST of all just keep your pet inside in a safe place where it cannot escape.

Safe in my box where I love to hide

Now for some fun stuff – we had a very busy weekend last week, on Friday we went to the Trans March and Mom and I met the Mayor of San Francisco. She was nice enough to let us get a  photo of her.

Mayor London Breed chatting with me and Layla (Sorry my face is covered but I have to because of my ex

On Saturday we went to the Shi Tzhu meet up which was awesome as I saw all my friends that I have not seen in over a year, it was a fun fluffy morning.  From there we went to another park for Storm and Dash’s Birthday Party. It was windy and freezing cold but so much fun to see so many people again and of course the dogs.

Lots of fluffies all my size

We had the pools out as we were hoping to swim but because of the cold we decided not to, Mom says I would have turned into a popsicle.

Protecting the pool from blowing away

The pool we had was amazing though and cannot wait to try it out on a hot day. It is from a company called Pecute and they sell on Amazon. The pool is safe and made with a non toxic PVC material, durable with a nonslip bottom, it has quick drainage which is fantastic, an additional adaptor which will help you recycle the water and most of all it can be conveniently stored. For all those that have yards this is a must as it is big enough for us humans also.

Birthday cake time

Dash and Storm and their yummy birthday cakes, Happy Birthday both of you with love from Layla

Uncle Troy handing out the treats

We have the size XL which is large and comfy.

The company is giving a $10.00 coupon for all those that buy it by the 3rd of July which is a great money saver of course. Coupon on the link below.

We were given the pool to try out

So last weekend was busy but on Sunday Mom put her feet up and relaxed and I slept all day BOL as I was tired also plus I need my energy for this weekend adventures, not sure what they are.

On this note we want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July, please keep us safe and have a wonderful family fun weekend,

With a woof and love from Layla

  1. Thanks for helping to spread awareness and safety measures to take this time of year. I didn’t even think of the aftermath the next day! Looking for any debris in your yard the following day after the 4th is a great tip. I’m glad you and Layla enjoyed yourselves this past weekend. And those cakes look oh so yummy! As hot as it’s been lately I bet you’ll have plenty of opportunities to test out the pool too!

    • Kamira it is like a war zone here and all I am thinking of are the poor animals 🙁 Plus the clean up is so important to make sure our pets are safe.
We had a great time last weekend and yes cannot wait for a hot day to try the pool

  2. Happy Independence Day to you & Mom, Layla! Freedom is such a gift, something to be grateful for every day. Great tips, I’m glad you included that so many pets get lost on 4th of July weekend and end up in shelters. It’s always so sad at the shelter after this holiday, seeing so many lost pets. Many without microchips or collars w/ updated information. Stay safe, friends!

Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them

    • Cathy I agree we must celebrate freedom but people need to think of the consequences also and unfortunately they do not and then pets land up in shelters freaked out, injured and not chipped or with collars. It is just so so sad

  3. Happy July 4th! Layla looks like she’s really enjoying herself. And, I so much appreciate the reminder for firework safety – you cannot be overly careful when you care for a pup (or any animal). Dog’s and fireworks do not mix. Definitely going to share this one!

    • Thank you Rebecca and what is sad is that we have to remind dog owners as fireworks and dogs do not mix. Happy 4th of July and please stay safe

  4. Thank you so much for these tips! It is amazing how many pets go missing after the 4th of July because of the fireworks. It is really sad. It looks like Layla had a great time in her new swimming pool too! So fun!
P.S. – This is Robin from Playful Kitty. I work for CrittEar these days. 🙂

    • Hi Robin and good luck with your new job. I feel we need to share and remind people to look after their pets so they do not run with fear as they pay the price in the end not us. Layla had so much fun that day and the pool was awesome

  5. Great tips for keeping your pets safe around Independence Day! I gave Truffle and Brulee some calming treats and have kept two TVs running a little louder than normal. They’ve been okay.

    • Paula am so happy they are ok, Layla is also drugged poor thing and sleeping in the bathroom at the moment, TV is on loud also as
I am trying to keep the noise out of the house. Be safe

  6. Luckily, my dogs aren’t bothered by the fireworks or thunder, but I know a lot of pets who are. This year it seemed like the fireworks in our area went on much longer than normal.

Layla’s new pool looks really nice! I like that is folds up too.

    • You are very blessed Beth and the fireworks here have been a nightmare. The pool is amazing and best of all you do not have to blow it up either, it would be great in any yard even for kids

  7. I love that paddling pool I can imagine it being perfect for pups on a hot day, how cool you can keep by just dipping in!

Layla you have such a wild social whirl now I was tired out just reading about you and your meet ups. The Shi Tsuh meet up looks especially cute, we have some of them over here and they always look so cute and elegant (although I ssupect they are quite high maintenance!)

    • Marjorie that paddling pool is just amazing for all of us and cannot wait for a hot day to sit in it. Yes the Madam is very busy at the moment and Mom is exhausted LOL. The meet up is really great and a lot of the dogs there are rescues. They are high maintenance but worth it 100 %

  8. Where I grew up, there were only designated, official fireworks displays; people couldn’t buy their own. Here, it is clearly different. Fortunately, my dogs don’t care about that much at all.

    • Jana you are very fortunate and when I was growing up we could not buy them either but today it is like a war zone with everyone setting off fireworks it is frightening
