Hanukkah has arrived

Spread the love

Hi Friends, we hope you staying warm as it has been crazy cold here brr, the coldest in over 100  years. Our week has been crazy this week  so this weekend Mom has decided we are having a slow weekend but might do the Santacon.

Wearing my new jacket before going out last night, it was cold brr, Nili

On Sunday Chanukkah starts, it is celebrated for eight days where we light a candle every night. Do you know the story of Chanukkah? I am sharing it for those that do not know it so you will understand why it is celebrated for eight days and what we eat.

Hanukkah is celebrated to commemorate the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabean Revolt against Greek-Syrian rule, focusing on the miracle of a single day’s worth of oil burning for eight days, which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, religious freedom, and Jewish perseverance. It’s known as the Festival of Lights, marked by lighting a Hanukkiah for eight days, eating oily foods like latkes, sufganiot (jelly doughnuts) playing the dreidel  (spinning top) and giving gifts. Children get Hanukkah Geld which is chocolate coins.

Below is a recipe for latkes for dogs so that they can share in the festivity also plus it is a healthy treat and Layla loved them and am going to make them for Nili this weekend so she can enjoy them also.

Safety tips for Hanukkah

I went to a Chanukkah party last weekend, got from friends a Ross Gift card, so on Monday I went shopping for myself and came home LOL with new clothes for Nili so she has enough now for the cold winter and Mom got nothing. She also got a bag of treats, a pink squeaky lambchop toy so she is all set now.

My new clothes and toy, I am a lucky girl, Nili

Happy Chanukkah to all our friends that celebrate, enjoy the holiday and see you next week on the blog

With a woof and love from Nili and Mom

I am wearing my bandana which says Happy Hanukkah, Nili

  1. Happy Chanukah to you and Nili. Of all the holidays we have (and there are a lot!!) Chanukah is my favourite. I used this recipe to make latkes for Jack and he absolutely loved them. I love your new clothes Nili but hopefully mom will treat herself next time!

    • Hindy I agree we have too many holidays and Chanukah is my best also, good excuse to make latkes LOL and Nili loves them too. Her clothes are adorable and was excited to buy them for her LOL. I plan to treat myself this week now that I have stocked up for her, Happy Chanukah to you too with hugs

    • Terry we love your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop as that way we catch up what is happening in your house with all the cats. It has been cold here too and today is raining so Nili is not that happy LOL, please stay warm and Happy Holidays to all of you

  2. It’s always so important to make any holiday dog-friendly and dog-safe. We’ve always been quite conservative with our festive foods so we had something safe to share.

    • Jana you are so smart and I agree with you that the holidays should be pet friendly as they are family and should be able to join in the fun. Happy Holidays

    • Andrea it is a wonderful holiday and I love sharing so we call learn about other religions. The recipe is great and can be made all year as it is a healthy treat and what is better than a home made treat for our pups. Thank you for sharing and Happy Holidays

  3. I agree that no matter when or what the holiday is Dog Safe is a No Brainer and super essential. You do NOT want to be rushing to the Emergency vet with a choking hazard!

I Do like your jumper though, The perfect colour for you!

    • Marjorie it is sad that we have to remind pet parents all the time but rather be safe than sorry. I love the jumper also and she looks so cute in pink I had to get it for her LOL, my spoiled brat. Happy Holidays to all of you

  4. Happy Chanukkah to you and yours! I love all the cute photos.
Stay warm and cozy. Take care, have a happy day and a wonderful week ahead.

  5. Happy Chanukkah! I hope you both have a blessed season. Nili is so cute! She does need to stay warm with those temps. You too! I love the doggy latkes. I’ll have to try them for Henry. You are like me. I get a gift card and spend it on Henry or someone else. True dog moms. 🙂 Your list of toxic things for our pups to avoid over Chanukkah, I know, will help many dog parents. Nili is funny! Henry says she needs an extra cookie.

    • Thank you Terri and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too. The latkes are yum and Nili cannot get enough of them LOL although I monitor her with them, but they are a healthy treat and Henry would love them. We need to be reminded of the safety for our pets when it comes to different holidays as rather be safe than sorry. Nili is barking Henry deserves lots of cookies today plus some latkes.

  6. I wish you a blessed Hanukkah! It looks like Nili got plenty of gifts this year, that’s what moms do, give to the kids instead of themselves.

Please know I am praying for peace for all who celebrate, and especially peace for Jerusalem.

  7. Happy Chanukkah! We do the same things with gift cards…gifts for our fur kids and nothing for us LOL. I love seeing the pups get excited though so its totally worth it!

    • I so agree with you and I have forgotten how to shop for my self LOL, but Nili is looking smart for the holidays and that is all that matters. Happy Holidays

  8. Woo! Happy Chanukah! Love all of Nili’s new clothes, lucky girl! Thanks for sharing the latke recipe, too! I went to parochial school, and we would have a Chanukah celebration and there were these, and during Lent/Passover we’d have matzo balls, and I so enjoyed them both! I do have a question, is the use of Chanukah and Hanukkah interchangeable? Or is there a specific difference in usage? Thanks! And Happy Howlidays to you and Miss Nili!

    • I am so happy you love latkes and matza balls, they are my favorites also and I love sharing recipes wherever possible, you were very blessed to go to a school that shared different religions and their foods as it is a wonderful education. Hanukkah can be spelled either way as it is a Hebrew word there is no rule. Yes Nili got spoiled and ready for the winter, Mom is another story LOL. Happy Holidays to you and your family too.
