Happenings in the Layla Neighborhood

TGIF !!!!!!!!

Today in the Jewish Religion, and Mom being a Jewish Mom we start our New Year 5781 which means lots of yummy food so I am going to be very good all day to make sure I get some.

We are celebrating the Holiday at home as we are still on lock down, 6 months already so I am going to be doing some of the cooking here, not all as I am one person and Madam cannot eat some of the foods although she would love to.

Like most holidays in all religions there are traditional foods and I am going to share here the symbolic foods you will find on the table :
01. Apples and Honey : Honey symbolizes sweetness for the New Year and in the old days the Jews believed that apples held healing powers so we dip the apples into the honey.

02. Round Challah – Because the world is round and the round challah symbolizes the world.

03. Pomegranates – Symbolizes plentiful for the New Year

04. Fish Head – Symbolizes Head of the Year

05. My favorite at the end of the meal is coffee with Honey Cake

In the Temple you will hear the Shofar which is a rams horn blown like a trumpet on the New Year (and other holidays). It has four sounds which the Rabbi says and the Shofar is blown with a specific sound.

Our New Year starts at sunset and ends the following day at sunset but only outside Israel do they celebrate two nights.

So that is what we are celebrating this weekend.

Other than that what is happening in the Layla Neighborhood let’s think LOL. Layla and I spent some time in the park this week, we had one good air day which was beautiful so we sat outdoors enjoying it and she was so happy to be out and seeing some other people and of course doggy friends. A friend of mine has just rescued a dog who is just the cutest and we got to meet her.

I have started part time dog sitting for a really cute little dog who Layla really likes so she now has a friend visiting which is good for her. His name is Baxter and he is a rescue and just adorable.  It is so great to be working again and hopefully more dogs will be needing dog sitters again.

On top of that I am finally doing something for me which I have wanted to do for years, I have started an online workshop to become a Domestic Violence Advocate, this means I will be finally able to give back and help those that are fortunate to get away like I did.

So as you can all see we are always busy here, life is good in our neighborhood and we want to wish everyone a Happy Healthy Sweet New Year.

With love from Layla

שנה טובה ומתוקה

A week with Gidget

TGIF !!1

Good Morning all, WOW we cannot believe it is like 5 more days till the new decade starts and all we can pray is that it will bring peace, love and hopefully stop abuse of all kinds all over the world.

Happy New Year Everypawdy

We have been very busy in the Layla Neighborhood as I have been looking after my neighbors year old puppy, Gidget. It has been quite an eye opener for me as I have never had a puppy so am learning a lot LOL. It is one thing reading all about it and another actually spending time with one.

I am loving it but Layla is not that impressed, as Gidget is a bundle of bouncing energy whereas Layla is the mellow quiet dog who just wants to walk, eat and sleep.

So to share with you more about Gidget, she wrote an email to her Mom this morning and am sharing it here as it explains exactly what is happening here.

Hi Mom,

This is Gidget woofing here, how are you ? I am being a very good girl although Auntie got angry with me last night cos I decided to get into the recycle and pulled everything out all over the floor and made a mess. It was fun especially watching Auntie clean up afterwards. She is horrible cos she then sprayed the bag with stinky apple cider vinegar so I did not go close to it again. she is mean LOL.

I also make her chase me to get the harness on cos I do not like it but she will not let me go out without it, not fair.

BUT I am having lots of fun with all the toys, have killed two already LOL, Layla hides from me in her box for peace and quiet but this is the best holiday ever.

I am now resting after a long long walk this morning, lots of new smells and it was exciting but Auntie would not let me eat anything off the sidewalk and the leash she has on me keeps me really away from it all plus cos it is rope it is yucky to chew, Gidget has chewed to leashes, one since with me.

Love from your energizer bunny (Auntie calls me that)

Gidget

So as you can all see she is keeping me on my toes and since the recycle incident she tried climbing into the fridge when I opened it, has pushed Layla off the bed and in a nutshell I am laughing a lot over it all. I think Layla is going to need a holiday after this.

Gidget is going to be with us for another 5 days and then Layla will have her peaceful house back to herself. She is being amazing though and I cannot complain.

Other than that I am once again preparing slowly for the FireWorks night which I hate and wish they would ban, it is not fair to the animals plus a waste of money which could be used on much better causes.

It also concerns me as so many shelters are at this moment over flowing thanks to the lousy humans who dump their pets before a holiday, and then are stuck with an extra load of pets that have fled from fear of the fireworks.

So please please keep your pets safe and make sure their microchip is updated, that they are indoors and most important that they are away from any open door or window so that they cannot escape.

Please keep them safe – Happy New Year

Our next blog will be in 2020, Happy New Year Everyone, May the New Year bring you lots of health, happiness and whatever else you wish for.

With a woof and love From Layla

And the New Year has arrived

Good Morning Friends,

How are you and we hope you have all recovered from the holidays and over eating LOL, we have managed to relax in the middle also.

January is a special month for me as it is the month that I ran from Domestic Violence and found my freedom and it is the month that I rescued Layla also, we call it the month we found our freedom.

It has been a long journey, there have been ups and downs like when I lost Baby but whatever the negatives have been I am so happy I did it, saved Baby RIP from the abuse and although life is not perfect today I would rather have this life than what I had.

Rescuing Layla is a bonus, she has given me so much laughter, love and friendship which is things money cannot buy and I am so blessed to wake up to Ms Piss and Vinegar every morning.

Today and the next couple of days are for Layla Christmas Tree heaven as everyone puts their trees out to be picked up so she when going for walks pees on all of them. I often wonder what is going through her mind when doing it as when we visit friends over Christmas we watch the dogs to make sure they do not pee and then overnight they have the freedom to do it whenever they want. They must really think we are nuts.

Many are asking what resolutions we have made for New Year and going to be honest have made none, am going to take each day as it comes, cross every bridge as I get to it and make the best of the year as possible. Of course though the most important is keeping Layla healthy and happy.

So as Layla starts her morning nap we both want to wish everyone again a Happy Healthy 2019.

Woof with love from Layla
