Woof everyone, September has arrived.

September is a very important month as Remember Me Thursday happens this month and we must not forget all our fur friends in shelters that are looking for homes, but I will talk more about it on another blog.

We have a long weekend this weekend and I am so excited. Mom has promised to spoil me extra and weather permitting we will spend as much time outdoors and go on a train ride which I love going on so am hoping it won’t be too hot and we can do that adventure.

We had a busy week but Mom took me last Saturday to another park where they were having a Shi Tzu meet up, something we have not done in a long time but it was so much fun, a different park meant lots of new smells, it was chilly but so worth going although BOL Mom left her coffee at home which was mixed with Hot Chocolate from Real Mushrooms https://shop.realmushrooms.com/?ref=488 and she was not happy BOL. I did a lot of sniffing, rolled in my stroller, and made some new friends, plus of course got lots of treats. It was so much fun and I hope we will do it again soon.

On Tuesday I met up with my friends in my park, we had what Mom called a Senior Rescue meet up although I napped under the tree Coco and Thomas had fun and there was a lot of laughter and of course treats.

I might be old but I am healthy

Good Morning Friends,

We hope you are staying cool in the awful hot weather and of course drinking lots of water. Today I am going to share with you my secrets on why I am so healthy for an old girl and am very blessed to have a doting Mom like mine, who makes sure I get all the nutrients I need to stay healthy.

When Mom rescued me, I was living off kibbles yuck, and she immediately changed me over to home cooked food with lots of veggies and fruits. With aging she has added some supplements to my food to help my old body stay well and although it might sound crazy it seems to be working BOL. I also make her walk as much as possible as exercise is very important for her joints plus to keep her brain active I fill snuffle toys and make her work getting them out. It keeps her busy and therefore not sleeping the day away.

Food – In this house we do not believe in kibbles of any kinds, gross, they have fillers and other not good stuff in them. I like my home cooked food although Mom has introduced me to raw food also and we now alternate as changing my diet keeps me interested in food BOL. Keeping your dog busy on hot or cold days – Giveaway

Adventures are the best

TGIF!! It is Friday and Mom is exhausted, but we had such a fun Saturday last week, it was the best.

Last Saturday Mom surprised me, and we went to the Stern Grove Dog Park which has a beautiful lake at the end of the path. It was so great to be outdoors in fresh air, no cars and just relax, although I kept Mom on her feet the whole time as I was so busy wandering and smelling everything. It was the Chihuahua Meet Up and a friend of ours was celebrating his birthday so there was a picnic with lots of yum food for the humans and home-made dog treats for us spoiled dogs. We munched away, chatted, wandered around and just had a great time. You can see in our photos how beautiful this place is, Mom calls it heaven BOL. Being a natural park there are warnings against Coyotes as they are there, lots of birds and other animals, but with all the dogs playing in the park you cannot see them. There is even area designated for BBQ’s which Mom wants to have one there BOL, I hope she does as that would mean lots more food for me, Miss Piggy.

Now did you know that August is National Dog Month, it is a month when we celebrate having dogs in our lives as family, very important as we are all blessed to be one big family with loads of love, fun, adventures, and spending quality time with ourselves. That is one of the reasons Mom is taking me to the dog park daily plus the adventure we did last week as it means no electronics, no nothing, just Mom and me, what a wonderful life.

Clear the Shelters

August is a very important month in the lives of dogs, we celebrate many holidays for them but today I am going to highlight one of them that are very important to me.

As you all know Layla is a rescue, she came straight from the shelter to my home and is now living the life of luxury. Unfortunately, the shelters are over flowing

with dogs at the moment as people are so quick to get one, then for some reason or another dump them back at the shelter which is no life for a poor dog, if anything it is traumatic and worse of all some of them land up in High Kill Shelters which means a death sentence for them, which is not their fault but the humans fault and they pay the price with their lives. We need to put a stop to this, have a list of people that dump dogs so that they are blacklisted and cannot get another and most of all put an end to this cruelty.

Another issue we must deal with is putting a stop to Backyard Breeders and Puppy Mills as those poor dogs are like machines churning out puppies for lazy people who do not want to work but the opposite make money off their poor dogs and then when the dog cannot give birth anymore dump them in shelters. We must also put a stop to Pet Stores selling puppies and instead make them get shelter dogs adopted and find homes which will help the overcrowding at the shelters.

Most rescue organizations are working 24/7 to save these poor dogs, have to find fosters to rehabilitate them and the work is never ending and it the human race that is causing these problems not the dogs, a dog is part of your family and if you cannot keep him or her then do not get one to start with.

If you want to adopt a dog, whether pure bred or a mutt which I love, go to a shelter to see what they have, yes it costs money, but you would be paying a breeder a lot more if you got from them, plus your dog is spayed or neutered, up to date with vaccinations and healthy but most of all desperate for a warm bed and place to call home.  We must all do our part by saving them the misery of a shelter cage because of some awful person not thinking of the consequences this poor dog will go through because it was dumped. We need to clear the shelters especially the High Kill ones where the poor dogs are killed to make space for new ones.

I hate being blunt talking about this and it hurts me but this is the reality of shelter dogs and it is time to clear the shelters and get the High Kill ones closed down also as the innocent should not be paying the price with their lives. Let us all spread the word and Clear the Shelters.

Now to something funny, Madam Layla LOL.

Layla has become a treat thief, I cannot leave treats anywhere in the house or park and she finds them, digging through my bag for them and I am very amused with this change in her behavior.  I have started dehydrating fish for her as treats and she is addicted, cannot get enough of them LOL, so when in the park the other day I had a bag with me and she went for the bag, pulling everything out till she got what she wanted. It was cute and funny to watch as it made me realize that at her age 16+ years old she still has it in her to get what she wants, and her nose is going a mile a minute.

Strolling with a Stroller

Woof hello Everypawdy,

The weekend has arrived and this week we celebrated my year with a stroller. I love it and Mom is going to share with you today what she has learned when walking me with it. I can be Bossy.

I need a haircut which Mom is planning to arrange this week

Riding in the stroller is fun, relaxing as I enjoy the outdoors and although I cannot see there are lots of smells to keep me awake and alert. When I stand up in the stroller Mom knows I need to do my business which is my way of telling her, so we have no accidents in it, and I get to walk as much as I want. Mom does not stop me from walking as she says I need exercise plus I love to sniff all the pmail that other dogs have left me. I can also now travel safely on the bus or train as no one will step on me and the nice thing is the public transport can lower the step which makes it easier for Mom to get on or off. Using public transport instead of taking a taxi has made it so much easier as I do not have to fold the stroller each time which is back breaking for me, so it is a win win situation for all of us.

Another plus with having the stroller is being able to take Layla everywhere with me as she lies in the stroller when I am in meetings, so I am totally relaxed chatting and that includes coffee shops and restaurants, so she is less at home alone plus when we do get home she is tired from being outdoors. It has become my other arm as such, and I feel lost without it and her LOL so it is working wonders for both of us.

The only thing that really upsets me and gets me angry is when people on the street make rude comments about her in the stroller but am learning slowly to ignore as I say, “Small things amuse small minds” That is my motto at the moment.

Otherwise, our life is busy as always, we went to a pool party on Tuesday evening which she loved as she was petted and spoiled by everyone but we got home late and I was so ready for bed but Madam was ready for snuffle ball and playtime LOL. Park time with her friends and in a nutshell a slowish but busy week as we always have as I believe keeping both of us busy means keeping us young LOL.

I must admit although we have the stroller, which eases the lives of both of us, she especially being nearly 17 years old and blind, she does love to walk and I allow her to as much as possible also, I am thankful to Myos for their amazing muscle formula mixed with green lipped mussels as they are keeping her joints really healthy and her being able to walk sometimes even two blocks is fantastic, you should check out their products on this link.

I have been busy.

TGIF!!!! Another week gone in July and I seem to be getting busier each week, I might be old but keeping busy keeps me young, that is what Mom says.

Last Sunday we went to the Annual TriPawd picnic which was so much fun. Lots of people and dogs, and of course lots of treats. They had a band playing music which was pawsome while everyone ate their food, Mom’s friend Melissa came also to hang out with us so while they were chatting I was of course napping as that is what I love to do in the park. The grass was cold and damp so we were not hot at all plus I must not forget

It was National Ice Cream Day, so Mom had surprised me by buying me some ice cream which was yum. I shared it with my friend Grumble so we both had some. It was perfect for a hot day and Mom of course had her cold brew coffee which she is addicted to BOL. She adds Chocolate Mix with mushrooms so she claims it is healthy for her, giggling as she tries to convince herself all the time. Stealing the treats from Auntie

On Sunday night I cannot believe it, Mom left me at home alone grr as she went to see a Broadway Musical with Aunty, she got home late and I was not impressed, I had to pee so bad I had an accident on the carpet, Mom was not upset, took me out immediately and then cleaned the carpet and I got some treats and went back to sleep. Mom explained to me that sometimes she needs to go out and will always come home to me but as I have aged my anxiety has gone through the roof and do not like being alone anymore although in my younger years I loved my alone time.

On Tuesday I was spoiled and went with Mom and my favorite Uncle to my favorite restaurant, Palmyra for lunch. It is a Syrian restaurant where the food is so good especially my favorite, the chicken of course. There Mom has an addiction also, their garlic sauce which she sits and licks till everything is clean BOL, she is a funny Mom.  On the way home we went and sat in the park for a couple of hours, which was great as I wandered around sniffing everything, and of course I got treats from the treat people. It was such a fun day especially as I got to do what I love doing so when I got home my tummy was full and I was sleepy, so I took a nap.

Yesterday and today, we took it slow although Mom had errands to go to I stayed at home and relaxed, I was good and did not pee in the house so Mom gave me some extra treats as a thank you.  I don’t mind during the day but not at nights as it scares me.

Mom has decided that this weekend we are doing park time and relaxing only, she says she needs some downtime and fresh air although BOL when we in the park I love wandering around and Mom comes after me so I will not go far so she does not relax as such, it is the price she pays for taking me to the park but still does it, she is a glutton for punishment.

I am running like crazy

TGIF!!!  The weekend has arrived, so many of you are complaining about the heat and here in San Francisco it is cool, overcast and gloomy. We need some sun.

We went to the dog park the other day and she was running in the park, something she has not done in months, I was chasing after her as her being blind  I was

afraid she would bump into a big dog or the poles around the park but if she had her own way she would have been going nonstop. I was totally amazed and happy to see her move that way, tail wagging and all happy.  See the video I have put here.
