The sun has been shining and Madam is happy

Hi and woof to all my friends,

The sun has been shining which has been pawsome as Mom and I have been out and about walking a lot BOL and went on adventure.

Mom has come to the conclusion when we are out walking I want to walk to South Africa as I make her walk about 6 or 7 blocks each time, uphill and downhill and off we go. She does not realize that excluding me needing to potty there are lots of smells and pmail to check along the way and shhh don’t tell her but I drag her in the direction where all my treat uncles are so I can get a snack along the way.

Last Saturday we went to the Shi Tzu meet up in another dog park. It was chilly and windy but also nice to be out although I told Mom I do not like dog parks anymore, too much going on and it scares me so am not sure if Mom will take me again. I sat on Mom’s lap most of the time while she chatted with the hoomans and was so happy to go home when the time came. I do love travelling on the bus and trams but that is different as I feel safe in my backpack and Mom carries me.

Tomorrow I am going to my Uncles garden and really excited. I love that garden as its only me, no chaos and just sniff and wander around while Mom chats with Uncle and they drink tea.

So that is what is happening in the Layla Neighborhood at the moment, keeping Mom on her toes and BOL I think she is losing some weight from the long walks.

Before I forget it is my gotcha day next week so Mom is going to do a give away for some yummy treats and food for someone lucky dog.

Be safe and have a great weekend

With a woof and love from

Layla

Living with Layla

TGIF !!!!

The weather has been awful, raining non stop, freezing and with the new variant we have been indoors most of the time.

January is Walk Your Dog Month and Layla is in heaven as all the Christmas Trees are on the sidewalks so all she does is smell

and pee on them LOL.

See video below of her helping me with the housework.

https://youtu.be/QCxmSuQZe3Q

When there has been a break in the rain and the sun peeks out I have taken her somewhere to give her some fun. Last week I took her to the promenade, which was awesome, chilly but sun shining, and she was in her element running around and me running after her so she did not go far. I had taken tea with me but never got to drink it as I could not sit down for too long, but it was worth it as she had so much fun and that is all that counts.

See the video below of her happily running, I leave the leash on her so that I can stand on it which makes it easier for me to catch her.

https://youtu.be/YRVouhcNs-Q

On top of it all Layla now has an ear infection which I was lucky to get her into the Vet and get it sorted out, 200 plus dollars later she is slowly getting better. The vet is really impressed with Layla’s over all health for her age so am relieved.

Today we went to my friends garden, it was cold and misty but it was great to sit outdoors for a bit and Madam was in her element.

See below the video of her moaning for treats, I give her freeze dried raw kibbles as treats as she loves them.

So, the beginning of the New Year has been very quiet, nothing exciting as such but I am blessed to have a happy healthy little girl.

We hope you all have a safe healthy New Year

With love from Layla

September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month

Good morning everyone,

Friday has finally arrived and not soon enough, I am exhausted as it has been a crazy week.

Last Saturday we went to my favorite park which was such a beautiful day to be out in nature, with friends and just relax. We did not walk down to the lake which I normally do as the coyotes are out and about and was not comfortable. We came home exhausted and just relaxed.

Since Tuesday I have been trying to get hold of my vet office to get an appointment – bi annual senior for Layla and finally today managed to get one with one of my favorite vets. My favorite vet has left the clinic and not sure where he has gone but am going to try find out. So I am finally breathing and relaxed phew plus was told I can go in with her which is even better.

September is National Responsible Dog Ownership Month which is a really important reminder for all of us who are dog parents.

The reason for this is to help us raise healthy happy dogs and it is a good reminder for all of us.

Some of the basics of responsible dog ownership include:

  • Regular vet exams
  • Keeping them up to date on all their vaccinations
  • Keeping them fit and not over weight. Feed them a healthy diet only and if possible no kibbles.
  • Putting dog care in our monthly budget for vet care, grooming, food and treats
  • Making sure their microchip and tags are all up to date
  • Keep your puts inside so that they do not suffer in summer or winter
  • Spay or neuter your dogs as there are so many in shelters looking for homes.
  • Be prepared for Natural Disasters
  • Lots of love and playtime

It is so easy to do the above as they are our fur kids and depend on us to live a healthy happy life.

What do you do to keep your dog happy? Layla would love to hear from you,

These are my plans this weekend, sleep eat, walks and nothing else

Have a safe weekend

With a woof and love from Layla

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month

Good Morning, TGIF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September has arrived and with it just chaotic weather everywhere, natural disasters that has made me think about how precious life is, how important it is for us to look after the environment for the future generations and at the moment it feels as if there is one disaster after another as if there is no time to breathe in between.

So with this lets all step back and look at what is happening in this country:

  1. Hurricane Ida, the devastation is horrific, the lives lost both humans and animals, what people are having to face today and slowly get back on their feet again. Rescue Organizations running around trying to save every animal from drowning, endless hours of work which I so admire, emptying the shelters to make space for all those poor displaced animals. If only people
  2. The fires burning all over California and the loss of animal life, vegetation and it hurts me so much to see this on TV.

And then I go back to saying September is National Disaster Preparedness Month and what else will happen this month? Are we really prepared in our house for one? What do we really need? It worries me as I wonder what if I am not home when an earthquake happens. Will Layla be ok? Do any of you think of this?

I always worry that the items in my disaster bag which is next to the door is not enough.  I recheck once a month but I then say will I have time to pick up and run when an earthquake hits, and the more I think about it I think to myself maybe I should try a trial run this week. It might sound crazy but would rather be safe than sorry.

So this is emergency bag :

Water / flashlight / batteries / radio / change of clothing / food for Layla and me / her supplements / poop bags / dog treats / blanket / toy for her / first aid kit / copies of documents / cash / usb drives of all my computer files / my beach canopy that I could use as a tent and other sentimental items of mine.  It sounds a lot but I still wonder if it is enough. I also have a collapsible pet carrier to put her in so she will be feel safe plus her backpack to carry her out of the house in so she does not walk on the sidewalks in case there is debris and could get hurt.

I also say that I can live off bread and water but her food is extremely important.

So when all these disasters hit us, and however much we are prepared we all lose material items which for me is as I say, something that can be replaced, but the lives of the animals and birds cannot so it is so important to do as much as possible to protect them.

On this note I am asking everyone to be safe, prayers going out to those that were hit by the hurricane and most of all a big thank you  to all those that step up and help those that need the help, you are all angels.

Most important our pets are family and should not be left behind to fend for themselves as you are serving them a death sentence.

Have a great safe week,

WIth a woof and love from Layla

August 26 is National Dog Day

What is National Dog Day ?

National Dog Day is celebrated anually on August 26th. It was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate, Colleen Paige, also the founder of National Puppy Day.

National Mutt Day and National Cat Day and many more philanthropic days are celebrated to draw attention to the plight of animals and encourage adoption. The date of August 26th is symbolic, as it’s the date that Colleen’s family adopted her first dog “Sheltie” when Colleen was 10 years old. National Dog Day is the only dog holiday that celebrates ALL DOGS, mixed and purebred.

National Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. The mission is to help the public recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year.

National Dog Day is against any kind of breed ban. Dogs should not have to lose their lives because of the atrocities they have been forced to endure at the hands of man. Although American’s have the constitutional right to purchase a pure breed dog, I personally strongly discourage buying dogs from pet stores supplied by puppy mills, backyard breeders, the internet and newspaper ads. I would rather encourage people looking for a new canine companions, to choose adoption first. If you want a pure breed dog there are so many pure breed rescues with dogs waiting for homes.

Another place to adopt a dog is to go to adoption events which some pet stores hold to help rescuers find homes for those that have been rescued.

So as Layla woofs, she is a happy mutt please do not Shop but Adopt and save a dogs’ life.

Be safe everyone and have a wonderful weekend

Layla

They just amaze me

Last Saturday we went to the 10th Tripawed Meet Up in our dog park. These dogs just amaze me and I always say we humans can learn from them.

Some of the dogs at the event

Madam watching what is going on

Most of the dogs are rescues and unfortunately have been dumped in shelters because of their disabilities but it does not bother them as they are happy dogs, some hopping on two legs, others with three legs and they just playing around, begging for treats and absolutely adorable.

It was a great day to have a picnic in the park with all dog parents, with lots of laughter and forget all the world problems.

This Saturday, August 21st is International Homeless Animal Day – Every year on the third Saturday of August, International Homeless Animals Day is celebrated to draw attention to the issue of pet overpopulation.

To raise awareness spay and neuter clinics are held, adoption fairs are held, unfortunately because of Covid a lot of these events will not be happening but we can all do something to stop the over population of pets.

We must remember that worldwide there is an over population of pets and if we do what I listed below these poor homeless pets will not face euthanasia and will live happy healthy lives in homes.

How can we help with over population of pets :

  • Spay and Neuter
  • Foster a shelter pet
  • Microchip your pets
  • Become an animal rescue advocate

So Layla is begging everyone to spay and neuter your pets, do not buy from breeders but open your heart to a homeless pet who desperately needs a safe home,

Thinking of all the homeless pets

Be safe everyone, with a woof and love from Layla

Happy Friday the 13th everyone

Smile, its Friday the 13th everyone be safe. My great granny was very superstitious and would be spitting on her hand and touching her head BOL.

The weekend has arrived and we had a great fun weekend last week till Madam hurt herself but thank goodness she is fine and back to being the sassy Madam.

Last Saturday we went to Stern Grove Dog park which for me is heaven, it is a beautiful park near the city with lots of trees and a lake at one end. For me sitting next to water is the best way to balance myself and watching the ducks and turtles was just awesome. There are Coyote warnings all over the park but there were a lot of dogs and people so felt very safe, plus I kept Madam on leash most of the time. Rather be safe than sorry.

Beautiful Stern Grove

Layla watching the ducks but making sure her paws do not get wet

Walking back to the entrance of the park, Madam started slowing down and then hopping with her back left leg in the air. She has always hopped with that leg up but it was more than usual so I was concerned.

As I have lousy eyes and hardly can see I immediately called my neighbors so that I would have two sets of eyes checking her foot for foxtails or something else. They could not find anything so I emailed my vet and he told me to monitor her and give her gaberpentin. I did that and she was thank goodness eating, drinking, no moaning or yelping so kept an eye on her. When it did not clear up by Wednesday I called her groomer who is not far from me and asked her if she could cut her nails and check her paw for me.

Bingo !!!!!!!!!! She has a burr in the fur of her paw, Tomo, my groomer immediately removed it, and Madam is back to Piss and Vinegar. I am so relieved that we did not have to do a vet visit as I did not want to stress her out too much plus sit outside the vet waiting for our turn.

I am also trying a new Dr Harvey’s flavor with her, the Allergy Turkey flavor and she loves it, gobbling down her food like a little pig LOL. Madam with age has become a little pig and me being the Jewish Mom am loving it, the healthier she eats at her age the better.

It has all the veggies she needs plus turmeric and other supplements and so she is eating a really balanced diet.

You can find it on their website :

https://www.drharveys.com/

Plus Layla is reminding everyone there is a coupon : Layla10 to get 10% off.

she cannot eat it fast enough

So on this note I am going to eat dinner while watching her slurp her dinner down,

Have a wonderful safe weekend

Layla the Boss

Staying healthy when you get old

Its Friday, week is over and Mom has decided this weekend we are taking it easy. The boys went home on Sunday and since then Mom has been busy catching up on housework and so much more. She is one busy lady. I just lie around watching her BOL.

I am aging and so is Mom so she has changed our diets to make sure we stay away from vets or doctors and medications.

So she has tried a new food on me.  We first tried Canine Health from Dr. Harvey’s but I started scratching so she changed me over to their Allergy diet, wow what a difference.  Since I am eating their food mixed with mine I have no allergies, no itchies, and am feeling really great. Mom has been adding their fish oil to my food also.

I first tried the Turkey flavor which was yum, and then I got from them for the review the Fish flavor, double yum.  Mom is worried I am becoming a cat BOL.

What is in the food, all goodness as Dr Harvey’s is holistic so there is no worries about junk in the food. It is dehydrated, you put a scoop in my bowl, add hot water and wait a couple of minutes for it to rehydrate. Mom then adds my favorite proteins and my meal is done.

The ingredients are : Whitefish, Carrots, Flaxseed , Broccoli, Green Beans, Cabbage, Hydrolyzed Fish Collagen, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Chia Seeds, Butternut Squash, Spinach, Tricalcium Phosphate, Turmeric, Ginger,Dandelion, Inulin, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Copper Proteinate, Nicotinic Acid, Manganese Proteinate, L-Carnitine, Vitamin A Acetate, Selenium Yeast, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus subtilis, Bromelain, Papain

The Fish Oil is amazing also as it’s a mix of mackerel oil, sardine oil, herring oil, anchovy oil. It tastes so good and I approve it.

And then to spoil me Mom got Dr Harvey’s Le Dogue bites, these are the best of the best. One ingredient freeze dried beef and they are my favorites at the moment. I am being extra good to get them BOL.

So as you can see I am eating very healthy, not itching and very happy thanks to the Dr Harvey’s products. And because we want everyone to enjoy them we now have a coupon for their products – 10% off – Layla10 so we hope everyone will start shopping.

Their link is : https://www.drharveys.com/

We were sponsored for this review with their products.

I am now off to finish my food as I have told you all about these great products,

yummm

Have a great safe week everyone

July is going fast

Woof hello fur friends,

4th of July is over and life is back to normal. The fireworks are finished and sleeping at nights again, phew.

I gave Mom a scare last week when I started moaning and yelping with pain. I had an upset tummy from a new treat Mom bought for me and was really sick. I yelped when Mom picked me up she panicked and thought I was having back or neck problems again. She immediately gave me a pain med and some chicken with probiotic. It helped and I slept through the night with no problems.

She emailed my vet the following day and he agreed to what Mom had done and told her to monitor me which she did.

I did not even want to go out those days so my Auntie came to the house to help Mom get me out in the evenings, am I spoiled or what ?

By Saturday I was back to normal whatever normal is and since then am doing great. She has kept me on the pain pill at night as my vet and her are wondering if I am getting arthritis so it’s helping me sleep comfortably at night.

So this week we have laid low, just done walks and napping which has been awesome as I think I had done too much the weekend before. I am an old lady BOL.

On Sunday my fluffy friends, Pierre and Leopold are coming to spend a week with me which will be awesome. It going to be a fluffy week BOL.

So that is what is happening in the Layla neighborhood, between me being sick and Mom having eye problem we are two peas in a pod, perfect match.

Have a great week everyone

With love and hugs from Layla

The fireworks are coming keep us safe please

Dressed up ready to party

Its Friday, the beginning of a long weekend and that means the fireworks are coming. Actually people have been letting them off for weeks now and I personally am sick of it all.

In a nutshell a waste of money which could be used on better things like donations to non profits, helping the homeless, helping shelters and so much more. I actually do not even want to go into this subject too much as my blood pressure goes through the roof.

So many pets get lost on 4th of July thanks to stupid owners who do not care for their pets by keeping them safe.

How to keep pet safe on 4th of July :

Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them – these can be poison and make us very sick, death can also be possible

Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals, this can also poison us.

Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach – these can also make us sick

Keep your pets on their normal diet.  This is important as a change of diet with all the stress from fireworks etc can cause indigestion and diarrhea

Never use fireworks around pets – these can cause severe burns, trauma to the face plus they contain toxic materials.

Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets – leave your pets at home in a safe quiet spot, why traumatize them in this situation which is just being selfish and uncaring.

Be prepared in the event that your pet does escape – make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an updated tag, microchip is updated and BEST of all just keep your pet inside in a safe place where it cannot escape.

Safe in my box where I love to hide

Now for some fun stuff – we had a very busy weekend last week, on Friday we went to the Trans March and Mom and I met the Mayor of San Francisco. She was nice enough to let us get a  photo of her.

Mayor London Breed chatting with me and Layla (Sorry my face is covered but I have to because of my ex

On Saturday we went to the Shi Tzhu meet up which was awesome as I saw all my friends that I have not seen in over a year, it was a fun fluffy morning.  From there we went to another park for Storm and Dash’s Birthday Party. It was windy and freezing cold but so much fun to see so many people again and of course the dogs.

Lots of fluffies all my size

We had the pools out as we were hoping to swim but because of the cold we decided not to, Mom says I would have turned into a popsicle.

Protecting the pool from blowing away

The pool we had was amazing though and cannot wait to try it out on a hot day. It is from a company called Pecute and they sell on Amazon. The pool is safe and made with a non toxic PVC material, durable with a nonslip bottom, it has quick drainage which is fantastic, an additional adaptor which will help you recycle the water and most of all it can be conveniently stored. For all those that have yards this is a must as it is big enough for us humans also.

Birthday cake time

Dash and Storm and their yummy birthday cakes, Happy Birthday both of you with love from Layla

Uncle Troy handing out the treats

We have the size XL which is large and comfy.

The company is giving a $10.00 coupon for all those that buy it by the 3rd of July which is a great money saver of course. Coupon on the link below.

Coupon for Amazon

We were given the pool to try out

So last weekend was busy but on Sunday Mom put her feet up and relaxed and I slept all day BOL as I was tired also plus I need my energy for this weekend adventures, not sure what they are.

On this note we want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July, please keep us safe and have a wonderful family fun weekend,

With a woof and love from Layla
