May is nearly over

TGIF !!!

How are all you of you doing ?

We are sorry we did not blog last week but I needed a break from social media which was really good for me, plus Layla was in her element as I was with her all the time.

This lock down has taught me a lot, it has not been easy triggering things inside me that I had buried, but worked through them, plus I have also realized how in a funny way I think Layla misses me dog sitting and having the other dogs in the house, although she does not play with them it is more the companionship and I really noticed it when Gidget came to spend a couple of hours with us last weekend and although Layla does not play with her, she was happy to see her, and they were lying and sleeping next to each other, which of course was adorable.

Layla is aging and I am noticing it more and more lately, she does not want to do long walks, I carry her into the park as she is afraid and if a person claps or any other odd sound she tries to run out, and this is worrying me. I now leave her leash on in the park as it is easier to catch her plus sit as far away as possible from others so she will relax. Once relaxed she sleeps LOL.

I also am noticing that she is not eating as much as she did in the past, treats yes, her food no so am trying to figure out what to add to her food to make it more appetizing. She loves her gizzards but needs more than that.

That is what I am working on at the moment and if anyone has any suggestions am open to them.

With the sun shining today I did take her to the park, but it was good for both of us to be outside for an hour, I do not stay long as it starts filling up and I am really keeping social distancing as much as possible. Plus Layla will this week be getting her own mask, a friend of mine got her one so will post a photo with her wearing it next week, cannot wait.

Nothing else exciting happening in the Layla Neighborhood. Like everyone, we are going day by day and praying life will get back to normal one of these days.

I am happy that groomers are opening and maybe next week will see if I can get her an appointment which she desperately needs as I have been cutting away matts as much as possible.

We hope you have a great long weekend,

With a woof and love from Layla

Mothers Day

TGIF furfriends,

How are you all doing?

With us still on lock down nothing exciting has been happening in the Layla neighborhood but she got a bone, and caused my bed to be all slimy and then hid it, and guess what ? I am still looking for it as I am not sure where it is. Madam Mischief Maker is her new name.

See the video below what she was doing LOL.

https://youtu.be/JdgzCRNGy4c

This coming Sunday is Mothers Day, and as we are all Pet Moms I decided to to focus on some fun memories of Layla, how I feel being her Mom and of course hear your input too.

Layla as you all know came to me from a shelter in Los Angeles, she was a matted smelly mess when she arrived but I have no regrets. She pranced into my house, jumped on the bed and rolled all over it, I will not even say how bad the bed smelled that night, but for me as long as she was happy so was I. It was really exciting becoming a Dog Mom again, and I knew like everything else there would be baby steps with her, every day a new thing but well worth it.

I can say today, nine years later, I am proud and happy to be her Mom, she gives me unconditional love, makes me laugh, and yes I have spoiled her rotten, from pound to princess but would not change it for anything.

And yes, I am a Jewish Mom, I make sure she eats healthy, I watch over her with everything and sometimes I feel maybe I am over doing it. She actually eats better than me LOL.

So our question to you is : How do you feel being a Pet Mom ? What do you do for your furkid to make him/her feel extra special. Do you get upset when people tell you there is no such thing as a Dog Mom?

Happy Mothers Day to all you wonderful Mothers all around the world, who have opened your homes to pets and given them the life they deserve, and Layla would like to woof a special Happy Mothers Day to her Grandmother whom she has not met but on Skype and to my Mom, Happy Mothers Day, thank you for teaching me how to love animals and so much more, I am proud to call you Mom.

Material things come and go but the love from your Mother is something money cannot buy.

With a woof and love Layla

Mom is going crazy

TGIF !!!!!!!!!!!!

Like many Mom is getting confused with dates and days and I actually feel sorry for her as I think she is going nuts with the lock down and not working. I will have to take extra care with her I think. Wondering if treats will help !

The past week I can say there were a couple of beautiful days so I took the opportunity and went and as I call it vegged in the dog park, it was wonderful sitting on a blanket in the sun doing nothing but people / dog watching. It was relaxing and just what the Doctor ordered.

California will be on lock down till the end of May but who knows, I am going day by day and not holding my breath on this.  San Francisco has done some positive and that is they are now closing certain streets to cars so we can go for walks there and not on the side walk which is so much safer especially when you walking a dog as we will have more space. Plus not closing the dog parks has made it a lot easier for them to get proper exercise although everyone is wearing masks and keeping distances.

On Saturday Georgie came to spend the afternoon with us, it was great seeing him again although Madam was not really happy about it. He is still very puppyish whereas she just loves to sleep.

I want to shout out to a friend of mine who makes the most amazing masks, she sent me a couple as a gift and they are beautiful and comfortable to wear, so I have been spoiled with that. Mara has a great online store which you should all check out as her clothes are Bohemian and very comfortable to wear. It is always great to support a small business and she is one I strongly recommend.

This is her link : https://bohemianbutterflysisterhood.com/

So as you can see we are lying low, staying safe and most of all I am enjoying the daily Melissa Etheridge concerts whom I admire for doing them. She has done over 40 free online concerts on Facebook since the lock down and it is a great way to relax with coffee in the afternoons.

How are you all doing ? What are you doing to pass the time ?
Please stay safe and have a great weekend,

With a woof and love from Layla

Earth Day 2020

Woof to all my friends,

How are you all doing ? Are you keeping your hoomans busy at home and making sure they working and giving you extra hugs and treats ?

Today, April 22 is Earth Day, a very important day and because of the virus and all of us on lock downs the world has changed so much. We can actually learn about this as we see the difference and maybe it is a wake up call to make the earth a healthier better place to live in.

So what has been happening in the world to show it :

01. The air is cleaner and not so polluted so we are finally breathing in clean air which is so much healthier especially for those that suffer from different illnesses.
02. There is less industrial pollution
03. Less litter on the streets and beaches
04. There is less car pollution
05. There is less noise pollution

I have been reading articles from different countries to see how the lock down has caused wild animals to start roaming the streets, here are a few examples :

01. The Marine Life in Hawaii is flourishing https://www.kron4.com/news/national/marine-life-in-hawaii-improving-due-to-lack-of-humans-during-pandemic/?fbclid=IwAR3be4GlQqHhhATdGIzZqzJDff3Gf0Xs1KZdZw_uYP5NPSLsv1b5XmL_St8

02. Penguins have been seen wandering the streets in Cape Town South Africa https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=645862186195238

04. 05. Jackals have been seen in the enormous park in the center of Tel Aviv, Israel https://www.ynetnews.com/business/article/Hkw8k7Xd8?utm_source=ynetnews.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=facebook&utm_term=Hkw8k7Xd8&fbclid=IwAR3D2XtFwvSVlLb2-roa93qM2M0C0c4LNyI-OiHHSccmGvxuY5EKeMvizHY

06. A Kudu wandering the streets in South Africa  https://www.sapeople.com/2020/04/18/watch-a-kudu-strolls-through-pretoria-during-lockdown/?fbclid=IwAR3pIaHrHRL5nOLSJqyQR4cZX1qtSoMgpK9Z-RSeevmxG7KioqGnPMLGDDg \

And that is all I have seen but am so sure there is so much more but what an eye opener is all I can say.  It makes me realize how much damage we have done, how much we have messed this earth up and it is time for us to step back and get it right. Who agrees with me ?

I today, to celebrate Earth Day, and the sun shining took Layla for some time in the park, it was beautiful, empty which was even better LOL. I sat there with my coffee relaxing while the Madam did what she does best sleep. A friend then joined us which was great to chat while her lil one joined us also. A great way to spend a couple of hours outdoors.  Layla is now sleeping and relaxed.

So on this note, please stay safe, lets all work towards a better healthier earth as we have the chance now.

Lock Down means Give Away

Woof hello friends,

How are you all doing ? Are you going crazy with the lock down the way I am ? I would love to know.

While we all complain about it at the back of my mind I always think of the poor animals in zoos that are on lock down 24/7 and therefore feel I should shut up and focus on how lucky we are.

This week has gone fast and funnily enough with the lock down we actually have been quite busy.

On Sunday I finally managed to get Layla in for her annual check up, I cannot believe she is nearly 13 years old.  All is good with her but unfortunately she is starting a cataract on her right eye now, so her sight is slowly going.  The vet told me to watch it and if it starts bulging we will discuss what to do.  So I am taking each day as it comes. When we went, a technician came out to fetch her, bring the forms to fill in and then he took her in. The vet called me afterwards to tell me everything plus she left a phone message so I could listen again at home. It was traumatic for Layla not being with me for those 30 minutes but I knew she was in good hands so relaxed. I think vets all over the country are doing amazing work under the circumstances today and a big thanks to them.

The weather warmed up for a couple of days so I took advantage of being able to sit in the park under a tree on an island as I call it, my blanket and relax out doors which has made a difference in Layla also. We are all really good in the park keeping safe distances. Layla was also excited as she got to see her friend Lucy, one of the only dogs she kind of plays with LOL, so it was good for her and me. I feel recharged as such which is a great feeling.

Now for the important, with everyone inside and looking for different treats, toys and other goodies for our pampered pooches we, Raw Paws Pet Food and Layla decided to do a give away this month for 5 lbs of raw frozen chicken neck bones. Layla loves them, they keep her busy, she walks around the house with them, has buried one under my pillow, LOL ewwww.  They are healthy and keeps her happy. I am a big fan of Raw Paws Pet Food and I give Layla their supplements also and swear by them.  If you want to keep your pets happy I suggest you check their products, being a Jewish Mom if I suggest something you know it is good.

Its a big big bag which means lots of chewing fun worth $ 33.99 and now on sale
for $ 23.99

And don’t forget when you shop there if you use the coupon Layla15 you get 15% off your shopping, and with todays’ economy every penny counts.

Raw Paws Pet Food also decided to donate some of their food to a rescue organization of my choice also, so I chose Dreams. I love companies that keep rescue organizations in mind, they are the better companies.

Who is Dreams :

DREAMS has been dedicated to saving seniors out of central valley shelters since 1998. SO far DREAMS has been keeping things small due to limited income. With so many seniors in need after 15 years of being a private sanctuary we have started working on non profit status in California. Where when money permits we can rescue many senior or disabled animals in need. We are striving to be a hospice sanctuary for critical seniors in their last months. We have around 40 acres in the foothills of central California where our home sanctuary is located. We are a no cage, roam free home for senior animals in need.

I personally know Danielle, and knowing her if she had the financial means she would be rescuing more on a daily basis. Danielle has a heart of gold, between her Sanctuary and homeless people in the town where she lives, she helps wherever possible, amazes me on a daily basis and never stops.

Below is the Give Away App to enter :

Layla and I are at this moment listening to the daily afternoon Melissa Etheridge concert which is awesome as what can be better than rocking out while blogging, and on that rocking note, good luck to all those that enter, and please be safe

With a Woof and Love Layla

Easter is here

Woof friends,
How are you all doing ?
Are you bored like me ? Mom poor thing is trying to keep me busy and I think I am driving her crazy sometimes BOL but that is what fur kids are supposed to do.  Do you agree with me ?

While I am writing the blog today am listening to a live Melissa Etheridge concert on Facebook which keeps me relaxed daily and of course Layla is sleeping. I must admit the one plus with the lock down is I am catching up on shows etc on Facebook and it keeps me occupied as I am tired of TV.
This weekend is Easter which means lots of chocolate, please keep your pets away from them. My thoughts go out to all the parents that will have to do Easter Egg Hunts inside the house.

Here is the list of what we must be careful of to keep our fur kids safe :

And we have one other thing to remind everyone of and please please don’t do this, thank you.

Be safe friends,  have a wonderful Easter

And last but not least, today 10 April is Hug your Dog day, that means Layla will be demanding a lot more hugs today,

With a woof and love from Layla

April has arrived

TGIF !!!!!!!!!!!!!

April has arrived and with it has come lock downs, Spring, and of course Easter and Passover. So where do we start.

Our lock down is going good, we are indoors more than normal, trying to find things to keep Layla occupied as unfortunately all my dog sitting jobs have been cancelled. So she has a new quirk to sit on the bed and moan for attention all the time which is not making my life easy as I ignore it part of the time and then feel guilty also.

Our dog parks closed this week, they are focusing more on the enclosed ones than the one like ours that has no fencing although ours has a kids playground etc which they have closed but are not making a big deal about us sitting on the lawns as long as there is 6 ft between us. Many families are there enjoying the warm weather which we have at the moment and I the past two days have been going also with a blanket and coffee, getting that fresh air is so great plus good for Layla also. She does not wander far so I have no worries with her.

Outdoor recreation is still allowed like walking, hiking, biking and running without limitations as long as people follow social requirements.

With the lock downs I am reading more and more how unfortunately Domestic Violence cases are rising, something that upsets me very much because we all complain about the lock downs but are blessed that we are free of violence not like those that are stuck at home with an abuser. My prayers and thoughts go out to all of them. If you hear of anyone in trouble and you can please reach out or give them the National Hotline Number so that they call. Remember they sometimes do not have access to a computer so having the number on hand will help them.

https://www.thehotline.org/help/

Advocates are available 24/7 at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) in more than 200 languages. All calls are free and confidential.

Another cause we must not forget is April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month.

We must not forget that like Domestic Violence with the lock down many animals may be being abused by an abusive human and as they are more in the house the abuse could be worse. Please if you see any animal abuse or hear of any please call your local Animal Control or the Police.

I feel in these times we must be more aware of our surroundings, neighbors and reach out where possible as you could be saving a life.

Passover is next week, I cannot believe it and that holiday as many of you know symbolizes the freedom from slavery of the Jews from Egypt, and for me it also symbolizes especially with what is happening in the world today, freedom for Domestic Violence Victims and Animals from Cruelty situations.

So on this note we are asking everyone to be aware, keep your eyes open for any abuse if you are out on an essential errand, stay safe and healthy,

With a woof and love from Layla

PS: For our all our Jewish Followers

Another week gone by

Woof hello everyone,

How are you all doing and we hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

San Francisco as you know is on lock down although thank goodness we are able to go for walks and get some fresh air so last Sunday I decided I need to see the ocean. I dressed safely, put Layla in her backpack and off we went on a tram down to the beach for a couple of hours. It was the best medicine for both of us, fresh sea air just recharged my batteries. Layla of course was in seventh heaven, fresh new smells, able to walk off leash and it was great for her.

I am going to try do something different this weekend also as I feel lately she does not want to go out too much and is bored with our area, not wanting to walk like she did in the past.  I know she is not sick as she is eating like a pig LOL.

Yesterday a friend of mine called to tell me he has some lamb bones for her, best thing to happen as she chewed away yesterday and wagged her tail. I have enough for her for a couple of days which is great.

So we are dealing with the lock down, I have pulled away quite a bit from social media as I am trying to stay as calm as possible.

My only concern and I do worry about is the Domestic Violence Victims who are on lock down with their abusers, as someone said, this is when abuse is going to get really bad and unfortunately due to lock downs the resources are not out there as it normally would be as most non profits are closed. So let us all pray for them and keep them in your thoughts. I am one of the lucky ones but so many are not.

And now Layla is moaning LOL as she wants some cuddles so am off here to spoil her which makes me feel great.

Please be safe all, take care and share with us what you are doing with your pets.
Woof with love Layla

Finding calm in the storm

Woof hello friends,

How are you all doing both humans and pets ?

Well we are on lock down and have no dogs at the moment staying with us but we are dealing with it the best we can and staying positive.

This lock down has caused me many triggers, but thank goodness having a wonderful network of people in my life it is easing it for me plus of course the one and only Layla. My rock.

There are two triggers I have had to deal with this week but today being Thursday am back to my normal self whatever normal is and plodding along.

The first is being a Domestic Violence Survivor and having been kept on lock down and isolated, having to walk on egg shells and so much more it really freaked me out till I realized that hey there is no one here but Layla, I can use the phone or computer, and as that slowly started sinking in I started relaxing more.

The second was when they said stay inside, I suddenly went back in my mind to the days before the Gulf War, I was living in Israel, how we had our gas masks, a safe room with Duct tape on the window, etc so that no chemicals of any kind could enter that room, and I had 3 cats with me also. There too once we started going outside the sirens, closing ourselves in our safe room, carrying our masks with us everywhere suddenly became a routine.

So when I sit here and watch everyone panicking, hoarding and driving themselves nuts because of all the social media I came to the conclusion that I am switching off TV, jazz on only, and off the computer by dinner time wherever possible. I am also doing our daily walks,  and weather permitting taking Layla to one of my favorite tiny parks here in the city, where I sit with my coffee, Layla wanders and if there is one other person it is a lot. It is a great place for me to just relax, balance myself and enjoy the beauty of nature.

My Heaven

With all the information floating around the internet and so many people saying different things I decided to get my resources together when it comes to our pets and am quoting here, putting a link also so that everyone understands. These are qualified resources as I do not trust everything that everyone says.

The first person I turned to was a very good friend of mine, she is an expert on viruses and discussed with her Layla whom she knows and as you can see in the photo below it says there no pets can get the virus.

The second resource I went to was my vets – I am blessed that I can email them and they were quick to reply with the below link, once again saying that pets cannot get the virus.

https://www.sfspca.org/blog/coronavirus-what-you-need-to-know-to-keep-your-pets-safe/

In an nutshell it says that there is no proof at this moment that pets can get the virus but they do remind us to wash our hands with warm soapy water for 20 seconds after walking your dog, include your pets in a disaster plan – I have a written document what should happen to Layla if something happens to me and it is with friends who have keys to my place.

So as I end this weeks woof I want everyone to take a moment please and think of all the Domestic Violence victims who are stuck in homes and are suffering and pray that they will survive and get away from it all.

Take care everyone, stay safe and most of all remember you are not alone.
With a big virtual hug and lick from Layla

My adventure last weekend

Woof hello friends,

How are you all ?  Over here in San Francisco the weather is weird, one minute hot and then cold and then rain, I wish it would make its mind up cos I want to go to the dog park a bit.

Last weekend I must say I was happy as I had Mom all to myself, it was pawsome and we even went on an adventure.

On Saturday, we were going to go to the Tulip Festival but it was raining and stayed at home, cuddled a lot and Mom spoiled me with lots of treats.

But on Sunday she surprised me and we took the tram which I love riding and went to meet up with Jenna Emmons and Louis, the Frenchie. That was so exciting as I have never been in a hotel where there is a dog park on the 5th floor.

Louis is such a cute and handsome dog, and he was so nice with me, I love dogs like him although BOL I can be a bit of a snob.  Mom and Jenna spoke about blogging while we sniffed around the park and wandered around. It was really weird in a way to be up in the sky but in a dog park, a new experience for me so thank you Jenna for inviting us to do so.

I told Mom I want to do that again and what Jenna is doing with Louis I also want to do one day, her reply was maybe, grrrrr am not happy with that reply.

Otherwise nothing exciting is happening in the Layla Neighborhood, Georgie has gone away for 10 days so he is not visiting, Gidget of course is here and I am really getting to like her more and more, she is very playful but respectful and we have learned proper how to share Mom with no arguments and cuddle together.

Unfortunately because of this lousy virus going around, we are lying low although BOL am making sure Mom takes me for extra long walks when we do go out. Mom explained that we should rather be safe than sorry so am going to trust her judgement on that.

Everybody please be safe, eat healthy and as Mom says don’t forget to wash your hands. Can you believe she now wipes my paws when we come inside BOL. (I do that because of her allergies).

Friday March the 13th is National K9 Veterans Day, to honor commemorate the service and sacrifices of American military and working dogs throughout history. Thank you to all the four legged heroes.

Am off now for my morning shnooze, I need need my beauty sleep,
With a woof and love Layla
