July is going fast

Woof hello fur friends,

4th of July is over and life is back to normal. The fireworks are finished and sleeping at nights again, phew.

I gave Mom a scare last week when I started moaning and yelping with pain. I had an upset tummy from a new treat Mom bought for me and was really sick. I yelped when Mom picked me up she panicked and thought I was having back or neck problems again. She immediately gave me a pain med and some chicken with probiotic. It helped and I slept through the night with no problems.

She emailed my vet the following day and he agreed to what Mom had done and told her to monitor me which she did.

I did not even want to go out those days so my Auntie came to the house to help Mom get me out in the evenings, am I spoiled or what ?

By Saturday I was back to normal whatever normal is and since then am doing great. She has kept me on the pain pill at night as my vet and her are wondering if I am getting arthritis so it’s helping me sleep comfortably at night.

So this week we have laid low, just done walks and napping which has been awesome as I think I had done too much the weekend before. I am an old lady BOL.

On Sunday my fluffy friends, Pierre and Leopold are coming to spend a week with me which will be awesome. It going to be a fluffy week BOL.

So that is what is happening in the Layla neighborhood, between me being sick and Mom having eye problem we are two peas in a pod, perfect match.

Have a great week everyone

With love and hugs from Layla

The fireworks are coming keep us safe please

Dressed up ready to party

Its Friday, the beginning of a long weekend and that means the fireworks are coming. Actually people have been letting them off for weeks now and I personally am sick of it all.

In a nutshell a waste of money which could be used on better things like donations to non profits, helping the homeless, helping shelters and so much more. I actually do not even want to go into this subject too much as my blood pressure goes through the roof.

So many pets get lost on 4th of July thanks to stupid owners who do not care for their pets by keeping them safe.

How to keep pet safe on 4th of July :

Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them – these can be poison and make us very sick, death can also be possible

Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals, this can also poison us.

Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets’ reach – these can also make us sick

Keep your pets on their normal diet.  This is important as a change of diet with all the stress from fireworks etc can cause indigestion and diarrhea

Never use fireworks around pets – these can cause severe burns, trauma to the face plus they contain toxic materials.

Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets – leave your pets at home in a safe quiet spot, why traumatize them in this situation which is just being selfish and uncaring.

Be prepared in the event that your pet does escape – make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an updated tag, microchip is updated and BEST of all just keep your pet inside in a safe place where it cannot escape.

Safe in my box where I love to hide

Now for some fun stuff – we had a very busy weekend last week, on Friday we went to the Trans March and Mom and I met the Mayor of San Francisco. She was nice enough to let us get a  photo of her.

Mayor London Breed chatting with me and Layla (Sorry my face is covered but I have to because of my ex

On Saturday we went to the Shi Tzhu meet up which was awesome as I saw all my friends that I have not seen in over a year, it was a fun fluffy morning.  From there we went to another park for Storm and Dash’s Birthday Party. It was windy and freezing cold but so much fun to see so many people again and of course the dogs.

Lots of fluffies all my size

We had the pools out as we were hoping to swim but because of the cold we decided not to, Mom says I would have turned into a popsicle.

Protecting the pool from blowing away

The pool we had was amazing though and cannot wait to try it out on a hot day. It is from a company called Pecute and they sell on Amazon. The pool is safe and made with a non toxic PVC material, durable with a nonslip bottom, it has quick drainage which is fantastic, an additional adaptor which will help you recycle the water and most of all it can be conveniently stored. For all those that have yards this is a must as it is big enough for us humans also.

Birthday cake time

Dash and Storm and their yummy birthday cakes, Happy Birthday both of you with love from Layla

Uncle Troy handing out the treats

We have the size XL which is large and comfy.

The company is giving a $10.00 coupon for all those that buy it by the 3rd of July which is a great money saver of course. Coupon on the link below.

We were given the pool to try out

So last weekend was busy but on Sunday Mom put her feet up and relaxed and I slept all day BOL as I was tired also plus I need my energy for this weekend adventures, not sure what they are.

On this note we want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July, please keep us safe and have a wonderful family fun weekend,

I have become a Social Butterfly

TGIF!! Yes it is Friday and now we open Mom on weekends is taking me places.

Last weekend we went to a Pride Event which was really fun, there were other dogs which was so exciting to meet others wearing rainbow bandannas also just like me. We wandered around the event where there were lots of little food booths which smelled yum. Mom would not let me taste anything as she said it would upset my tummy, something I would be prepared to suffer for BOL.

I was excited as I got spoiled with a box this week, I love when the mailman delivers boxes as they are normally for ME ME ME. This one had delicious lamb lung treats which are so good. I love Mom making my treats but variety is the spice of life and lamb lung I cannot say no to.

What is great about them is that they are in small pieces so Mom does not have to break them up, so she puts her hand in the bag and takes some out for me when I am good.

These lamb treats are full of protein. They also contain vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc, selenium and vitamin B12. The combination of these essential nutrients provides your dog with immune support, healthy digestion and a vibrant skin and coat.  They are grain free, no preservatives and best of made in the USA.

I, Layla approve these treats and woof you must have them in your treat jar as they are yummy.

You can find out more about them on this link:

Coupon Code : LAYLA15 for a 15% Discount.

I was sponsored for this review with products.

Now do you know why Mom is calling me a social butterfly BOL. It is because today I am going to a Pride Event and will be seeing some of my favorite people and then woof tomorrow, Saturday I am going to the Shih Tzu Meet Up, the first one in over a year so I will be seeing all my fluffy friends woof.  Then from there we going to a doggy pool birthday party in another park so I will be exhausted by the time I get home. Poor Mom she will be carrying me in my back pack BOL. But I am so excited and it is going to be so much fun, especially as it will be a hot day but as always will have my cooling vest on and will drink lots of water.

I am giving Mom the day off on Sunday to sleep late and put her feet up as a thank you for Saturday although she will have to walk me during the day.

So what are your plans this weekend. Please share with us here we love to hear what our fur friends are doing with their family.

Have a wonderful weekend every one, stay cool

With love and licks from Layla

National Pet Preparedness Month

Friday has arrived phew and it has been a busy week in the Layla Neighborhood. Mom says she is tired but I do not care cos the weather is nice and I want to go for walks so guess what! I am making Mom walk me like 5 times a day BOL. It is good for her.

Yesterday we had a doxie named Shoyu stay with us, I was not happy sharing Mom with another dog but as Mom said I am still number one. Actually I cannot complain as Shoyu was really good and relaxed which was awesome.

June 15th San Francisco is finally opening, no masks either unless you have not been vaccinated which I am really excited about especially as that means more adventures in the future and I know Mom is planning them as she has been talking to Aunt Alice about some. Cannot wait to see what is planned.

On Sunday Mom took me to the Chihuahua meet up in Stern Grove. We love that park as it is so big, with lots of trees and the lake but because there were so many Coyote warnings we stuck to where all the people were, Mom explained to me to be rather safe than sorry.

We used my new back pack to get there, this one is so so pawsome and you know why! It is because it is expandable so when on the ground Mom can open it up and it turns into a dog bed where I could sleep when the Chihuahuas were yapping too much. It is so comfortable to sit in, get in plus I can watch the world go by from the top. Mom does not have to clip me in as I do not jump out but it has one for those that need it.

It is so airy, with mesh on all sides so I do not get hot, to get in is easy as it opens at the side and in a nutshell the best of the best for Mom to carry me in, as she says it is light so it is not hard on her back or shoulders. It has a strap to go around Moms belly also.

You can read more about them on the link below:

http://www.pecute.net/blog/pecute-backpack-mesh-window-4-color

I received this back pack to review from the company.

Now before I forgot June is National Pet Preparedness Month, are you prepared?

This is very important as with what is happening in the world today, earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, floods and so much more we need to be prepared.

I have an emergency bag in my closet with food for me and Layla, boxes of water, a sleeping bag, flashlights and batteries, a radio, first aid kits for both of us, toys for Layla, medications, emergency phone numbers, poop bags plus so much more.

The plus with this new back pack also is I can put Layla in it, get out of the house to a safe place and then open it up so she can lie down safely without me taking her out of it, which will make life so much easier and I will be more relaxed.

What is in your emergency bag?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and please be safe

With a woof and love from

Layla

June has arrived which means Rainbows

First week of June and Pride Month has started. The city is covered with rainbows and of course Layla has her rainbow harness on also, Happy Pride everyone.

There has also been some good news, Layla has been taken off her liver supplements, all I can say is what a relief. This poor little girl is traumatized from them. It has got to the point where we go for walks and she comes home and hides in her box from fear, I now am working on her confidence again to show her that the nightmare is over. The size of the pills are so big I would choke on one LOL so trying to get her to take them is impossible. I spoke to the vet about this and asked him actually if there was another kind of small pill she could take after trying to give them to her with hotdogs, cheese, cream cheese, ground turkey, pill pockets, chicken, you name it we tried. He told me that because she had been on them for nearly 6 months I could stop.

So I am doing a happy dance here.

Memorial weekend I decided to take her for an adventure and get out of the house for a couple of hours. She loves riding the trams and busses so took the tram to an adoption event of Rocket Dog Rescue that was being held outdoors so she could see some other people and a different area. It was hot but really fun to do it and we were both exhausted when we got home. She was a happy girl.

The rest of the weekend we just relaxed, cuddled and spent quality Mom/Layla time which she of course loved. I made her her favorite turkey treats which she is loving.

This weekend our plans are to go for a walk on the Embarkadero which is the promenade next to the sea, go to her Uncle on Saturday to relax in his garden (I need it) and on Sunday we are going to a Chihuahua meet up which is finally happening in one of our favorite parks – Stern Grove, so we are going to be happy busy having fun weekend plus she will be seeing other dogs and me some humans, what a concept LOL.

What are your plans this weekend ? Please share with us, we would love to hear from you.

Have a safe wonderful weekend,

With woof and love from Layla

It is a long weekend

TGIF !!!!

I am so happy it is going to be a long weekend as I need a break, life is becoming hectic slowly and I am exhausted and I think Layla is also.

Last weekend we had a fluffy sleepover again which was fun, lots of laughter, lots of walks and playtime with them while Layla did what she does best and that is sleep BOL.

I love these two dogs and enjoy every moment with them.

This weekend is a long weekend and I have no plans, am going with the flow but plan to take Layla out for some adventure, not sure what yet but will share with you next week.

Memorial Day is a somber day in my eyes, I cannot understand how people can wish others a Happy Memorial Day, the sales that are on, the BBQ’s and so much more, I feel people are celebrating not respecting those that died during the wars.

I, out of respect do not celebrate in any way but remember those that passed away, and stay at home excluding walking Layla of course.

So on this note everyone stay safe, enjoy your long weekend with your families but please also think of what I wrote here.

May is National Pet Month

Friday has arrived and that means weekend, woof. We hope you have a great one.

National Pet Month is observed in May. National Pet Month is a celebration of the benefits that pets bring to people’s lives – and vice versa. It is celebrated here in the USA in May and in the UK in April.

National Pet Month

What are the benefits of having a pet, there are endless benefits but I think the most important ones are as follows:

  • They keep us fit
  • They make sure you’re never lonely especially through hard times and what we have been through the past year
  • They lower our stress levels – I try to stay as less stressed as possible so Layla does not stress out
  • They can help you make friends, so true as by walking your dog, going to dog parks you are meeting people
  • They can improve your immune system – yes they do as keep us healthy in so many ways.
  • They can stop your children from developing allergies which is so important plus they teach children compassion and responsibility.
  • They keep you safe
  • They can provide companionship to children with learning difficulties
  • Pets make us happier
  • Pets help us cope with crisis

I have realized this so much from when I was in the Domestic Violence Relationship how much Baby helped me and I was blessed to have her.

Layla has done the same for me especially the past year – without her I am not sure where I would be. Seeing her waggy tail when I come home from an errand makes my day every day.

As I am typing this I am realizing how blessed I am to have Layla in my life, we are both aging together but loving each day, she makes me laugh, gets me out of the house, and her cuddles in the morning is something money cannot buy.

So our question is what does your pet do for you on a daily basis?

Happy National Pet Month Everyone,

With a woof and love from Layla and Me

It is Passover and I am on Diet

TGIF !!

Good morning fur friends,

Happy Passover to those that are celebrating, it is a time when families get together to celebrate freedom, the story we read is from the Haggadah and tells the story of how Moses led the Jews out of Egypt from slavery.

This year it is especially special as we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, freedom for us with the vaccines. We hopefully will be able to go back to a normal life, what a great feeling to be able to hug our friends, see our family and celebrate the holidays together. I am getting my first vaccine today and I am really relieved.

There are many customs and foods we eat on this holiday plus for one week we do not eat bread, cookies or anything that rises when baking. It depends also on what country you come from as to what you can eat or cannot eat which is a long list and can be complicated sometimes.

In the very religious homes the women clean out the kitchen of all non Passover foods which they sell to their neighbors or burn, they have cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils for the Passover only, and before Passover starts they go around the house with a feather to make sure there are no breadcrumbs anywhere. Passover starts at sunset and all cooking is done before then and kept warm, there is no cooking done on Passover evening so that means loads of cooking and preparations beforehand.

The reading of the Haggadah can take up to 4 hours during which you drink 4 glasses of wine, and then when it is over you stuff yourself with food as you are starved.

My favorite food of course is the chicken soup with matzo balls yummm

It is a wonderful holiday as there is a lot of singing also and I remember growing up when my grandfather read the whole Haggadah in Yiddish not Hebrew which was very special.

So it is not easy to be on a diet LOL and I have put Layla on a diet as she is a couple of ounces overweight which I want her to lose. She is not a happy girl at all and stands at her plate moaning for food. Being a Jewish Mom it breaks my heart but her health comes first so have now divided her meals into three tiny ones to keep her happy. Treats have been halved also so the Brat as I call her now makes me feel guilty all the time with her moans LOL.

So Layla and I would love to wish all our friends Chag Sameach (חג שמח) which is Hebrew for Happy Holiday,

Be safe and take care

With a woof and love
from Layla

The weekend has arrived

TGIF !!!!!!!

It has been a long week and phew thank goodness the weekend has arrived. I just hope there will be no more tremors and I can relax a bit. Yes I did check my earthquake kit again LOL.

Last Saturday we went to Bark in the park K9 Heroes event in our park which of course Madam sat in her backpack and I did the carrying. She was not happy with all the noise especially the jets flying over head so on Sunday we just lay low and relaxed in the house which she was happy with. I had the Jazz going to keep it as calm as possible plus to block out the jets. So I spoiled her with lots of treats.

Talking about treats we got some new goodies to try out. They come from one of our favorite local stores – Jeffrey’s Natural Pet Food Store. What she got was some frozen raw chicken necks and I must say she is going to town on them. Loves them and sits on the bed moaning to get more although I am only giving her one a day.

Madam will not  sit still for anything when she gets one so sorry
 about this pic

Jeffrey’s is a local raw pet food store, they prepare their food daily in San Francisco sourcing local ingredients, quality ingredients: fresh, raw, quality meats, free from hormones and antibiotics, fresh organic vegetables, and their own vitamin mineral mix. They make food for both dogs and cats.

You can read all about them on their website https://www.jeffreyspets.com/

I also had to compensate Layla big time as she got punished LOL with a bath this week, lying in the park with all the leaves falling had made her dusty and itchy, so it was needed and she was happy to come home and chew on another neck.

As you all know October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month we are sharing important info all the time to remind everyone to be safe, both humans and animals.

So that has been our week, Madam as usual being spoiled and me working hard to keep her happy, what a perfect balance.

Have a wonderful weekend all,With a woof and love from Layla

#RememberMeThursday

Hello to all my friends,

I know we normally blog on Fridays but because today is a very important day we are talking today to bring attention to #RememberMeThursday.

I have always rescued and that is why this day is so dear to me.

What is this day ?

Remember Me Thursday is on the last Thursday of September every year when we speak out for the orphan pets in shelters wanting homes,  they are innocent and in many ways we are to blame.

This is a day when we all get together campaigning for them as no innocent orphaned pet should have to die in a Shelter because someone dumped them there.

It is now in its 7th year and as Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center says : We all come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, but together, we can raise our voices and share one life-saving message and literally save millions of pets on this one day.”

You can read more about it on this website https://remembermethursday.org/

How can we shine a light on this :
01. Attend a Remember Me Thursday event near you. – You can find the events near you on Google or on the website above.
02. Hold a pet food plus other pet related items fundraiser for your local shelter.
03. Check to see if one of your shelters in your area are having an adoption event.
04. Speak out, encourage friends and family to adopt and open their homes to an orphan pet.
05. There are so many ways we can all help, so lets take one step forward today to do it.

On this note we would also like to wish all our fur friends and family a Shana Tova, Happy New Year as our New Year starts in the evening of Sunday the 29th. May it be filled with sweetness and health.

But most of all may the New Year bring homes to all the orphaned pets.

With a woof and love from Layla
