Today is a Special Day

TGIF!! Friday is here and that means weekend, time to put our feet up and relax.

Layla is still hobbling around so have kept her on bed rest as much as possible this week and her energy level is going through the roof LOL but am doing my utmost to prevent her from walking. I have taken her to the park once or twice to get fresh air but she starts walking so I bring her home although she loves sleeping there LOL.

Wearing my granny jacket cos it was cold but zzzzzzzzz

I phoned my vet today to discuss with her what is happening, and she was so great and told me to relax as Layla is a senior and it could take time for her paw to heal and that I am doing well with what I am doing. We have put her on Galliprant for a week which is an anti-inflammatory and pain killer which hopefully will help her paw, but it is making her sleep LOL, phew.

Now why is today a special day?

Today is National Dog Day is recognized worldwide on August 26th annually. We celebrate all dogs and encourage adoption.

It is so important to encourage adoption as there are so many dogs in shelters waiting for homes. It hurts me so much to see all the rescues and shelters posting photos of dogs needing homes and breeders still breeding to make money, we need to put a stop to all breeders till shelters and rescues are empty. I understand there are people that want pure bred dogs BUT you can adopt one from a breed rescue organization or from a shelter as there are so many there.

So why we celebrate dogs lets turn today into a day of adoption and celebrate the freedom of those caged dogs who need homes.

On this note we are asking to spread the word, help emptying shelters and giving all beautiful dogs a home and freedom.

Stay safe everyone, have a wonderful weekend

With love and woofs

Layla

Never a dull moment

TGIF and thank goodness the weekend has arrived, I need to put my feet up and relax and take it easy.

Never a dull moment in our house, Layla has been doing so well since she is on the Lions Mane Mushrooms (read more below) and yesterday she came bouncing out of the house when I got home, ran in the hallway and did not see the stairs, and the next thing I knew she was howling, she had fallen down the stairs.

I immediately ran down the stairs picked up, checked her and then brought her into the house, she was limping with her right paw in the air so I gave her some CBD oil to relax her and put her to bed. She ate well and drank but would not put her paw down so I took her to the vet today and they checked her. She has bruised her paw but otherwise very healthy for her age so am relieved now. She is on bed rest for the next two weeks and if it does not heal to bring her back in. Her walks are now stroller only and to take her out of the stroller to do her business. They also put her on Galliprant to help with the inflammation and pain but otherwise she can get CBD.

Now to Lions Mane Mushrooms from Real Mushrooms.

As you all know Layla is 15 years old, I with research felt she was starting Dementia and wanted to catch it to make her life easier. So, I found that Lions Mane helps so have started her on it, that is where I realized it was working as she had become a shell as such from the blindness and adding the Lions Mane, she is more alert, trotting along a lot better plus so much more. I swear by it and my vet said to me if it works in the East then it should work.

Signs that your dog might be starting CDS.

Below is a very interesting article I read from the company that I am buying the mushrooms from.

https://www.realmushrooms.com/lions-mane-for-dogs/

If you are interested in buying them for your dog or the other one that Layla is getting which is the 5 Defenders which is a mix of 5 mushrooms and really helping Madam, you have a discount code LaylasWoof for 10% off on all shopping.

The link for Real Mushrooms is :  https://shop.realmushrooms.com/

On this note, Madam is sleeping phew, so please everyone have a safe wonderful weekend,

Sleeping away zzzzzzz

Keeping Your Senior Healthy

TGIF!! The weekend has arrived and never mind Mom I am exhausted and need a rest.

Mom has been running around all week, nonstop, like an energizer bunny and she needs to put her feet up but hey I love keeping her busy.

On Wednesday Mom took me to the Eye Vet to have my eyes checked up.  They have found that I have now an ulcer on my right eye so have doubled my eye drops and hopefully all will be good. We have another appointment in 6 months’ time unless something happens before then.

As you all know I have a Jewish Mom that drives me nuts trying to keep me healthy and happy so she decided that I need a new dog food to add to my homecooked food so it would be very balanced and healthy. I sometimes worry that she will make me chicken soup and matza balls BOL.

So, as we love the Dr Harvey’s Foods Mom got me their new one, The Raw Vibrance as she got excited when she saw it has milk thistle, green lipped mussels and so much more and it takes the worry off her shoulders with me not getting a balanced diet with all the right supplements. The plus with eating Dr Harvey’s food is it Holistic, Chemical Free and made with organic ingredients. What could be healthier than that.

The ingredients in this food are Broccoli, Green Beans, Squash, Celery, Cabbage, Carrots, Crushed Eggshell, Spinach, Beets, Raw Goat’s Milk Powder, Apples, Blueberries, Bone Meal, Sesame Seeds, Chia Seeds, Shiitake Mushrooms, Green Lipped Mussel Powder, Ginger, Kelp, Parsley, Eggshell Memb

I love this food and it is pink from the beets which is my favorite color so am gulping it down as quickly as possible when it is put in my bowl.  Mom also takes it to the park for me so I can have a picnic.

Mom has also started making me treats with the food which she mixes with my homemade food and bakes it, then cuts it and puts it in my snuffle ball and it is yummy. I am a very lucky old girl here.

Home made dog treats with the dog food

So, because we love this food, and want to help everyone keep their babies healthy and happy, we have decided to do a giveaway for a bag of Raw Vibrance which one lucky winner will win.

We were sponsored by Dr. Harvey’s with a bag of this food. The giveaway is for the USA only and you must be over 18 to enter.

Below is the Rafflecopter link to enter:

And of course, if you want to check out Dr Harvey’s website this is the link – Your code for a discount is: Layla10. The great thing is you can order samples of his food to try on your dog before you buy a big bag.

I solemnly swear with my paws that your dog will be a happy healthy furkid.

Good luck everypawdy, with a woof and love from

It is Friday and Pride Month

TGIF!! It is Friday that means this weekend we are going to have some fun.

Last weekend Mom took me to Caturday in the Park and well LOL we did not see one cat, lots of people and dogs but no no cats. There was a woman there handing out information about the park and when Mom asked her about it she said Mom was the third person to ask and she knew nothing. So we came home and Mom was upset as she really wanted to see the cats of San Francisco. It was a funny outing.

I am really excited as today I am having a picnic in the park with my one of my favorite aunties and best of all it is my favorite food from the Syrian restaurant. Mom always shares a bit with me so I cannot wait.

They are expecting a heatwave today so we will sit under a tree and relax while Mom catches up all the news with Aunty. It is going to be fun and the best of all is that there is no electronics.

With summer here Mom has booked a spa day for me to get my haircut, grrrrr I feel good after it but hate going. Mom says there is a price to pay for being beautiful and that is the price I must pay I suppose.

San Francisco is full of rainbows at the moment as it is Pride Month. It makes the city all happy with all the colors and I am loving it, seeing them hanging from homes, on the street poles and everywhere else. We do not know if we will go to Pride this year as I have become afraid of big events, noise and it becomes too much for me plus as Mom says her back cannot hold me for hours anymore in my backpack LOL.

Rainbows in our supermarket

So, with love in air, rainbows flying high, the Pink Triangle on Twin Peaks, (The Pink Triangle is in memory of Gays that were killed during the Holocaust and were made to wear pink triangles), all the stores decked in rainbows we want to wish everyone a wonderful weekend.

Below is the link for the Pink Triangle

Are you prepared ?

June has arrived and it is important month for us pet parents. It is the month where we should make sure we are prepared for any disaster that can happen and our bags are packed and ready to go.

Living in San Francisco which is earthquake city I am prepared and check my bag once every six months to make sure all is good. With Layla aging and now on medications I have got extras in the bag, so I do not have to worry if we must run.

In the bag I have food for Madam, I have put freeze dried food as she eats homemade, boxes of water, water bowl, food bowl, leash, poop bags, first aid kit and so much more. I also have a wonderful carrier which expands on all sides to enlarge it so I can put her inside it, and she will be safe plus I will not have to worry about her wandering off especially as she is going blind.  There is also a file with all her important info which includes a document with emergency contact if something happens to me. Her microchip is up to date, like her tags with an emergency phone number in case my phone is not working. My plan is if we must run to put her in her backpack and carry the bag, so she does not fall and hurt herself.

For me LOL, some instant coffee and creamer, crackers, and some cans of food but not much as the bag is so heavy with all her stuff. As I say I can live off bread and water, but she needs proper food. I also have a sleeping bag, flashlight, battery operated radio and I put to protect us from winds which San Francisco does have a beach canopy which will give us some shelter.

Being prepared can be a life saver for our fur family plus being prepared makes my life easier as I do not have to worry If something happens.

Are you prepared? Tell us what you have in your bag as hey maybe I forgot something. Please keep microchip and tags information updated at all times.

So, everyone, get the bags ready, please be safe

Happy Pride everyone, get rainbows flying in the wind,

I have become a Snuffle Ball Addict, Layla

Woof it is Friday, and this weekend is a long weekend. Do you have anything planned that is special?

Here in the Layla neighborhood, there have been changes as Layla’s sight is just about gone so am learning with her to navigate life without being able to see. It is not easy and learning daily how to make it easy for her plus keep her busy especially her brain. She does not want to walk like she used to, has become afraid plus she is so busy sniffing she knocks her head on trees ouch, which is concerning me so am looking into getting her a halo which hopefully will help. What I have read about them is most dogs regain their confidence so am praying that will happen for her too. Things she used to like to do she does not want to do anymore, plus she is petrified of going downstairs so am carrying her which is not easy, but we are managing. At least she will walk up the stairs phew.

With all this happening I won a couple of weeks ago a $ 25 Amazon gift card so bought her a snuffle ball. Layla has never been a toy lover but this snuffle ball has hit the jackpot. She loves it, wants it all the time and it is keeping her active and busy in the house. Yes, it is stuffed with treats but am putting homemade chicken jerky in, tiny bits and the ball is rolling. She worked it our quickly and she is a happy girl. I do have the snuffle mat also but this ball is so much better for her.

See the video below of her playing with it :

https://youtu.be/XRdZrmR_kMI

Another thing I have done is put her food on a place mat instead of the bowl which has made her eating a lot easier and not knocking it over.

I knew this would happen because of her cataracts but one thing is knowing and another realizing it has happened. I am not going to let it get us down and try carry on with life as normal.

Our plans this weekend, Saturday is to go to a concert in one of the parks in the city, I will take her carrier instead of backpack so she can lie comfortably in it and feel safe plus this way I can sit back and relax and of course enjoy the concert. It is Indonesian dancers, and I am excited to see them.

On Sunday will be garden time, which she still loves and feels safe roaming around or lying in the sun. I personally need the outdoors as being indoors can be stifling after a long week.

Monday which is a holiday I am just lying low at home with her.

So, these are our plans this weekend, filled with fun and quality time together,

Have a safe wonderful weekend everyone,

With a woof and love from Layla

April is over and May is arriving

Woof all my friends,

Can you believe it is the end of April, this year is going so quickly. We had a busy last weekend which was pawsome but tiring.

On Saturday we went to DogFest. It is an annual Dog and Kid event held in the park not far from where we live. It is an annual fund raiser for one of the Elementary Schools in our area. A fun filled day, chaotic with lots of booths selling dog products and other items.

Layla with age is not doing well at events anymore, she has become afraid of all the chaos plus her sight is going so with all the people and dogs I carried her on my back in her backpack. She is happy sitting in it and very relaxed They were handing out samples of different treats which she was very happy to snack on especially the different jerkies LOL.

I was very surprised that there was only one Rescue Organization there this year as there is normally all of the Bay Area Rescues, but I think a lot of people are still getting back to normal lives.

On Sunday we went to chill in my friends’ garden which was great. Layla loves going there as she is alone wandering around, sniffing, and exploring plus she feels safe as there is no one else there. It was wonderful sitting outside in the sun, drinking tea and chatting. It was a fantastic morning and just what I needed.

Saturday is a very important day in the National Pet Holidays, it is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. I have always adopted from shelters as they need homes and will not support Puppy Mills or Breeders. I am aware that people will argue that there are some very responsible breeders, but you cannot change my mind as too many pets are dying in shelters because of the over population.

So, Layla is woofing to everyone please #adoptdontshop and open your home to a shelter pet. They have been let down by humans and deserve a second chance. Share this with your friends, family or co-workers to go to a shelter on Saturday and adopt a new fur kid.

Have a wonderful weekend, be safe

With a Woof and Love

From Layla

Mothers Day has arrived

Another week has passed and it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, woof. What are your plans for your Moms as I am still stuck for ideas. I know Mom loves her Starbucks coffee so maybe I will break my piggy bank and get her a coffee, what do you think?

This is my letter to Mom:

Dear Mom,

Thank you for rescuing me from that awful shelter where I was stuck in a cage. I am very blessed to have you as my Mom, you take such good care of me, worry when I do not feel well, put up with my quirks which are growing with age, you feed me well, homemade food and treats. You make sure I go to the groomer at least twice a year if not more, and there is so much more you do for me that the list can go on and on.

I might drive you crazy sometimes but that is part of being your furkid as I cannot be perfect, no one is.

Mom, woof thank you, thank you, Happy Mother’s Day

With love from your piggidy wiggidy munchkin, Layla

Mom did get a surprise this week and I am so happy for her, she had told the company Critter Zone that our Critter Zone had broken down, she had had it for over 8 years, and they were kind enough to send her a new one, so our house is now pet odor free plus it helps with my allergies. If anyone is looking for one they should check these out as they are awesome especially if you have multiple pets. Thank you Critter Zone with surprising me with a new one, I really appreciate it.

Now before I forget we must not forget that May is“Responsible Animal Guardian Month.”   Most of us with animals know that being responsible for our furry friends is a daily, year-round commitment. To highlight the importance of humans’ responsibilities to animals, and that is where Dog Moms are involved in such a big way.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Pet Moms out there,

With a woof and love from Layla

Do you know what day today is ?

TGIF !!  Friday has arrived, the weather is warming up and that means adventures woof.

Mom has had her vaccines so she is good to go is all I can say. I am really getting excited here as life has become boring and I am tired of walking the same routes every day. I know there is lots to smell but I am bored so it is time Mom takes me places. I will make sure she wears her mask and we do social distancing.

Last Saturday we went to the opening of a new pet store, it was such a hassle to get there, they had advertised that they would be giving free toys for the dogs, and other goodies and I personally can say it was a waste of time. The staff knew nothing when I asked them for something, they had rows of rawhide which is such a no no that for me, Mom it was a one and only time I will go there. Will stick to the local store instead which I love.

Now very important, today is National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day.

Each year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is on April 30th to raise  awareness for the thousands of pets that are waiting and needing for  adoption from the sheltersAnimal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process.

I am a rescued dog, Mom adopted me from the Carson Shelter in Los Angeles over 10 years ago and living the life of a princess and that is why Mom and I discuss this every year as we want others to have the same opportunity I got. There are so many pets sitting in cages in shelters desperately looking for homes, we see it on social media and we all need to step up and help them, we cannot be silent.

We must also not forget that black pets are harder to get adopted than others so please remember them when looking.

Below is a list of what we must not forget when we go to a shelter to adopt a dog:

Here are links where you can search, I found Layla on PetHarbor.

www.PetFinder.com

www.Petharbor.com

Please also remember that if you want a pure bred dog you can also find them in a shelter or rescue organization, why pay a breeder when you can save one instead.

So now that I have spoken up for those that do not have a voice, I  reminded everyone how important it is to open your home to an adopted dog as they are not to blame for being in the shelters, the humans are to blame for dumping them there, which is so not fair and as Mom says may Karma get those humans.

Please take care everyone and have a great weekend

With a woof and love from

Layla

Today is National Lost Dog Awareness Day

TGIF !!!!!!!!!! We cannot believe it is Friday and April is nearly over.

We have had a busy week with the fluffs staying with us for 5 days, Layla is exhausted poor thing as they want to play and she does not want to, LOL.

It is amazing to see the dynamics between the dogs but am loving it also, they are really cute.

Pierre the Tripawd is just so funny, an energizer bunny who is not a big eater but when Layla tries eating he barks at her to get her food, although he has just finished his plate. I laugh at it as Layla ignores him but am sure she is getting a head ache from it. Leopold who is normally the food addict has no way of getting to her food because she growls at him. I feed all of them at the same time but Layla being a slow eater and used to eating when she wants I am having to pick her bowl up if she does not eat when they are eating and then put it back down when she moans for some food. It has become a restaurant here.

Otherwise they play with the toys in the house, Leopold loves pulling the bed apart and growls at the pillows whereas Pierre just lies on a pillow on the bed watching.

So that has been the five days in our house and today, Thursday they are going home, I think Layla is happy LOL.

Today, 23rd April, is National Lost Dog Awareness Day increases awareness concerning missing dogs. Through networks of shelters, veterinaries, social media, and other media sources, many lost canines and families reunite.

This is my biggest fear and that is why I make sure all Layla’s information is up to date on her collars and Microchip. I also have put an emergency number so if I cannot be found a friend will be called. I am fortunate that Layla is Velcro and won’t go far but would rather be safe than sorry.

What to do if your dog gets lost, below is my infograph with information on what to do plus of course to post on Nextdoor.com and any other local websites in your area.

So all our furfriends, please be safe and stay at home or with your parents, do not run as you can get lost and it is scary.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone

With love from Layla
